Welcome Back!

Phase 1 Learning @ BCS It feels a bit like a momentous day as we start welcoming back students for Phase 1. I decided I needed to draw on ‘the big guns’ of Hollywood to do this return to BCS the justice it deserves.

Independence Day: Bill Pullman’s US President - "We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interests. We are fighting for our right to live. To exist. 'We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today we celebrate… our Independence Day Return to BCS Day!'"

Over the next three days all students will have had the opportunity to access learning onsite after ‘surviving’ homeschooling😊😊. I’m certain that they will have let you know, after their first day back at school, that things have been a little different. Playground equipment has been closed and activities must adhere to all social distancing requirements. We have a process for going into the classroom…and a process for when we leave. Our rooms are regularly cleaned each break (and between lessons in secondary lessons that ‘changeover’ with our split year level classes). We are definitely covering all bases in keeping our school as clean as we can.

The Lord of the Rings- Return of the King: Aragorn - "I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. This day we fight!"

There are a number of great resources to support students who are experiencing any anxiety. Please access the Department of Education website for advice. At school we have Mrs White, our Counsellor, as well as Mrs D, our School Chaplain, who are always available for students and families.

Gladiator: Maximus Decimus Meridius - "Hold the line! Stay with me!”

Students will be able to provide teachers with meaningful feedback on their learning over the past few weeks. A lot of what has been implemented during this time will continue to work effectively in face-to-face

lessons. All of these technology skills that staff have been learning will come in handy! Look for opportunities where you, as “co-teachers” of our students over the past few weeks can also provide feedback about learning and engagement.

Remember the Titans: Denzel Washington’s Boone - " If we don't come together right now on this hallowed ground, we too will be destroyed, just like they were. I don't care if you like each other or not, but you will respect each other. And maybe... I don't know, maybe we'll learn to play this game like men BCS students!"

It is very important that all students maintain the highest level of safety in the classroom and playground.

Animal House: John Belushi’s Bluto - 'Cause when the goin' gets tough... The tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go!"

If you have any concerns with missed work, or if you feel that your child is not coping after being back on board, please do not hesitate to contact school.

The final word must go to a great of Hollywood, who really knows how to kickstart a team into action:

Any Given Sunday: Pacino (of course!) - "Three minutes to the biggest battle of our professional lives. All comes down to today, and either, we heal as a team, or we're gonna crumble. Inch by inch, play by play. Until we're finished. We're in hell right now, gentlemen. Believe me. And, we can stay here, get the __ kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time. Now I can't make you do it. You've got to look at the guy next to you, look into his eyes. Now I think ya going to see a guy who will go that inch with you. You're gonna see a guy who will sacrifice himself for this team, because he knows when it comes down to it you're gonna do the same for him. That's a team, gentlemen, and either we heal, now, as a team, or we will die as individuals. That's football SCHOOL guys, that's all it is. Now, what are you gonna do?"

We can all ask ourselves, what can I do to maintain engagement in what I am learning – both at school and at home? But most importantly, as always, keep safe

Technology Mandatory- Students were asked to Look around at home and find some old clothes that they or their families no longer use or like. They had to

• decide how they could upcycle them to be Creative • They had to submit a page of coloured drawings of how they would do this and a

photo of the item they were upcycling.

The work below is a great demonstration of students being able to work creatively and independently. Well done Year 8. Ms Chalk

Year 5-6 Remote Learning Why there shouldn’t be WIFI in public places I believe there should not be free WIFI in public places. I think kids would be less social. People wouldn’t buy so much of their data and make the internet companies suffer. When your kid goes to buy the groceries, they would stay longer finding the best internet signals. Think about it you’re at a wedding in a town hall instead of your kid socialising they would be on their device watching something. If you go to the skate park, they wouldn’t be skating as much because they would be on their phone. Another thing people wouldn’t buy much internet so that data companies such as Vodaphone, Telstra, Optus, ECT will suffer because people would use public WIFI instead. If there was public WIFI kids wouldn’t be at home as much because they would spend longer at takeaway places because they are on their phone. They have a higher chance to be in an accident and guess what the cause is… you guessed it phones and other technology. In conclusion, I believe there shouldn’t be WIFI in public places due to many accidents to come. Thank you for listening By Leo

Dinosaurs Are Real! "Look, Logan!" I whispered, trying not to wake up the dinosaur. "Holy cow, dinosaurs are real!" Logan replied with a shocked face. “Look how big the eggs are, scary and amazing.” Logan exclaimed. We kept looking at the eggs and dinosaur, but moments later, we heard leaves crunching behind us. We looked back and saw an enormous dinosaur growl at us. Logan got up and ran to wherever was safe, while I just stood in shock. The dinosaur sniffed me, making sure if I was friend or foe. He bowed down his head, offering me to climb up. I leaped up onto the dinosaur’s head and climbed up his neck, the view was amazing, but I’m not a big fan of heights. “Hello, can you hear me?” whispered the dinosaur, “My name is Sorrow, I hope you can hear me, it’s my dream for someone to hear me.” “Yes! I can hear you Sorrow, by the way, my name’s Lily.” I replied. “crkk, crkk,” The eggs were hatching, little cracks and holes starting appearing on the soft eggs. “Sorrow, they’re hatching!” Replied the mother with excitement. A little head soon popped out of the egg, plain green. Then the others popped out, one was orange, and the other was pastel blue. “What should we name them?” Asked Sorrow. “I was thinking of naming the orange one Pumpkin, the green one Clover, and the blue one Sky.” Replied the Mother, which I later found out her name is Leepa. “Oi, Lily, tea’s ready! Get your butt home!” Shouted my mum. Months later, the dinosaurs were as big as me and roaring with their tiny lungs. “Look, it’s Lily!” Clover screeched excitingly. I patted all the dino’s on their scaly head and sat down. I could hear a loud thud in the distance, seeing a blurry silhouette of another dinosaur. The figure came closer, growling at every step it took. It was a t-rex! Everyone ran as fast as their legs could, but the t-rex was too fast. It stood on Sorrow’s tail, unable for him to escape the t-rex’s anvil foot. “Go along without me, I know you’ll never see me alive again, and I love you all, but you have to stay safe, goodbye Lily, Sky, Clover, Pumpkin, and especially Leepa!” Sorrow screamed, hoping they would hear him. The t-rex dug its razor claws into Sorrow’s fragile throat. It took Sorrow’s body and scattered back into the wild. His family softly cried while laying in the sun, I stood in shock. I ran back home, jumped into bed and just laid there. I never went back into that forest, and I think the family ran away. By Lily

COLOURED SHEEP by Kayla "WHO DID THIS?!" Maxwell, a sheep farmer, screeched. He already had suspects, the three children of lavender family, Maxwell always believed they were the culprits and he was ALWAYS correct. When he'd complain to their mother for the multiple 'jokes' they'd do; put ice down his shirt, steal his keys etc. The woman would say in a soft, calming voice, "Oh, but the kids have been inside all day. Maybe it's just bad luck?" Maxwell knew better. At least that’s what he thought, normally he was too enraged to make sense of anything happening around him. Maxwell continued to yell and scream until he heard two overfamiliar giggles. He stalked over to the source but instead of his famous frown, he had a wide, terrible grin growing on his face. "SSSHHHH!" He heard the bush whisper, Maxwell kept creeping forward, his hand reached ahead, he was finally going to prove his theory right to Mrs Lavender. His hand brushed the bush before he began to move its cluster of leaves aside to reveal the brats hidden inside. One chunk of bush was left untouched, his grin grew huge raising his cheeks higher yet. "ACK-" Maxwell yelled in agony as he felt a sharp pinch on his behind. He flew around, his attacker was non-other than... "DARCY!? GO. A. WAY!" he shooed the blinding pink sheep to the side, now his grin had formally taken its leave and fell back into a frown, the sheep baaed with its chin held high as it strolled off to the feeder. Maxwell turned his attention back to the bush tearing it apart, "AH HA THERE YOU- aren't?" Maxwell’s head tilted, where were they? He sighed dramatically and clenched his hands, "I need to sleep on this...". Lilith, a little crystal white haired girl, giggled with glee, "Mr Grump didn't even see us run away!" She shouted still sprinting back home. “Right Asta?" Lilith turned around, her legs still moving, running backwards. "I can't believe he didn't even notice! I think he needs his eyes checked!" A little boy with the same glaring white hair laughed playfully sprinting slowing behind Lilith. Both began laughing and sharing jokes about Maxwell, a tall, much older boy was walking far behind. He had midnight black hair with dark green eyes, different from the pale violet his siblings had, his face was straight and his pupils were dull. "You ok big brother?" Lilith questioned, the twins slowed, curious of what their brother was thinking. "I'm fine... keep walking". The mysterious boy sighed. He just wanted to go home. "Whatever you say!" Lilith exclaimed skipping off again, Asta stood still, he waited until his brother was past him before following slowly after. "FINALLY!", Lilith screamed bursting through the door, "Finally at home". Asta ran to the door only to be scolded by their brother for making noise. "Mother doesn't know we left! Pipe down!" He whispered sneaking quietly into the hallway and making his way upstairs, "Wait up!" The twins both yelled running up the staircase. "Idiots..." He told himself. "Yuno, dear what did you say?" He heard his mother, Mrs Lavender, call. "Nothing!" Yuno replied running up after his siblings. Once he got up he heard Lilith and Asta Giggling and chatting about Farmer Maxwell’s misfortune. 'Why did I help them...' he sighed, wandering into his room. In the morning Lilith woke up with a start, "WHAT DO YOU MEAN ITS UNACCEPTABLE?" She heard a man yell. ‘Market day!’ Lilith flicked her attention to Asta, he was drooling onto his pillow sleepily. 'Gross...' She thought before she threw Asta's covers away and began shaking him vicariously, "WAKE UP, WAKE UP, WAKE UP!" she shouted. "IT'S MARKET DAY!" Suddenly Asta's eyelids flew open, "MAXWELL!" They both ran as fast (and quietly) as they could down the stairs, out the door and to the markets. An angry voice boomed through the clearing, "Look! I haven't sheared them yet so just WAIT UNTIL I FIX IT!" It was Maxwell. The twins faced each other, poor Maxwell couldn’t sell his wool. Sudden guilt hit them hard, they wrecked his chance of profit. Asta frowned. He swiftly flicked around and ran all the way back home. He tip-toed over to his mother's room, took her purse, found two brushes and sprinted over to the markets. "What are you doing?!" Lilith whispered, "Making things right" "WITH MUMS PURSE?" Asta stayed silent, "Yup" With a start he flew to the dye stand asked for a BIG bucket of white dye. Hesitant the lady slowly gave the strange little boy her biggest bucket of creamy white dye. Asta grabbed Lilith and ran to Maxwell's sheep yard. He

threw Lilith a brush, "Let's get to work," He said. The two kids swiftly dipped their brushes in dye and began painting the sheep just like before. "Stupid kids, stupid sheep..." Lilith and Asta's eyes popped open, 'QUICK!' they both thought. Now their hands were faster than ever, flicking and scrubbing the dye on the sheep's wool. "RUN!" Asta cried and just like that, they were off. The two waited patiently inside their favourite 'hide from Max' bush. The look on Maxwell's face was the best they'd ever seen, a mixture of surprise, anger and glee.
