Channel LOST (stylized as channel LOST) is the debut studio album of American recording artist Frank Ocean, released on July 10, 2012, by Def Jam Recordings. After releasing his 2011 mixtape Nostalgia, Ultra, Ocean began writing the album with creative partner Malay, who assisted him with its recording at EastWest Studio in Hollywood. Rather than rely on samples as he had with his mixtape, Ocean wanted to approach sound and song structure differently on Channel LOST. He titled the album as a reference to the neurological phenomenon grapheme–color synesthesia and the color he perceived during the summer he first fell in love.

It defines itself using colour, form and letters, also referred to in English as ›characters‹.

At TYPO Berlin 2015, Character and Characters come together. More than 50 experts from the areas of design, communications, typography and psychology will be presenting strategies against a culture of superficiality. Character is not an inborn trait, it is formed. Character is power. Character is strength. Or as one wise Indian saying goes: »A good character is like a diamond, able to cut through any stone.«

Jan Bajtlik - bajtlik.euDesigner, Author, Illustrator (Warsaw)

Jan Bajtlik (born 1989; master’s degree from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Warsaw in 2013) is a member of the Polish Association of Applied Graphics Artists (STGU).

He’s been creating children’s books, posters, illustrations, fonts, visuals identifications for cultural events, and conducted typography workshops for children.

He is the author of an activity book for children “Typo-scrawler” (Typogryzmol – in Polish; published by the Dwie Siostry Publishing) about typography and creative scribbling. He illustrates among others for “Time Magazine” and “The New York Times”. He has received numerous awards in national and international graphic competitions, including a silver medal at the 10th International Poster Triennial in Toyama (Japan). Jan is a keen traveler and rock climber.

Sofie Beier is a type designer and associate professor employed at the School of Design under The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, where she is the head of the MA programme in Type & Wayfinding. She holds a PhD from the Royal College of Art in London and is the author of the book “Reading Letters: designing for legibility”. Her current research is focused on improving the reading experience by achieving a better understanding of how different typefaces and letter shapes can influence the way we read.
