FUTURE JOBS/OPTION CHOICES:
STEP 2: Use the following website to help you to find out more information on careers that may interest you:
www.careerswales.com
You will be given a username and password to help you to access further information on this site. Write your
username here and change your password to the same as you use to log on to the school computers.
USERNAME: ………………………………………………………………………
IF YOU HAVE A FAIR IDEA OF WHICH CAREER YOU ARE INTERESTED IN:
1. Use the careers search option to the right hand side of the home screen to find out more.
2. OR click on job information on the right hand side of the home screen and use the A to Z search function.
IF YOU ARE UNSURE ABOUT WHICH DIRECTION YOU WANT TO GO AND HAVEN’T REALLY GIVEN YOUR CAREER
MUCH THOUGHT:
EITHER A:
Use the JOB MATCHING QUIZ application on the Careers Wales website to help give you an idea. You will need to
log into the site to be able to access this application.
1. Select Tools & Resources tab towards the top of the Home page – you will notice a number of tiles here
which you can use to as you move along your learning pathway.
2. Select the Job Matching Quiz tile, then select the Young People option.
3. Select find careers based on what I like.
4. You need to initially state the highest qualification that you will be aiming to achieve throughout your
education. If you wish to go to university, select the top option (degree), if you intend leaving education
after A-levels or college select option 2 (A-Level). If you intend leaving after your GCSE’s select either option
3 or 4, depending on the level you are aiming to achieve by the end of year 11.
5. You will then need to answer a series of questions relating to careers that interest you – keep an eye on the
information towards the top of the page as you are responding to the questions.
6. After you have answered the questions a list of suggested careers will be given – click on any that interest
you to find out more.
7. If you are not interested in any listed, click on answer remaining likes and dislikes towards the top of the
page. This will refine the careers suggested even further.
8. You can revisit this application at any time as your responses and suggested careers will be saved. It would
be worth revisiting the likes and dislikes questions at various stages along your learning pathway.
FURTHER SEARCH OPTIONS:
1. Select Tools & Resources tab towards the top of the Home page.
2. Select the Job Matching Quiz tile, then select the Young People option. This time chose the look for my own
career option.
10a
3. This will allow you to search for careers by type of work, working hours or average salary or to type in
careers you are interested in. If you have a real interest in a subject and want to see what types of career
could be available by following that subject fill in the my subjects section first (use the left hand tab).
STEP 2 CONTINUED: Complete the table below to help summarise the research you have carried out.
OR B:
1. Select Job information on the right hand side of the home screen.
2. Select job families
3. This will split jobs into 4 main categories:
i. Technical ii. Creative iii. Service iv. Business
4. Select the category that you are interested in and you will be provided with a list of job areas within that
category
5. Select one of the job areas and you will be taken to a page which lists specific jobs within that area.
