PRINCIPAL’S COMMENT
Welcome Back
It has been great to see the whole school back in action this week. We are getting closer to things being normal again.
There has been a ‘mixed’ response to the school work teachers have prepared over the last 5 weeks. Well done to the
students who have embraced remote learning. If, for whatever reason, you have not worked extensively over this remote
learning period there is time to turn this around for the end of semester assessment. Please ask teachers for help in any
possible catch-ups.
Parades
The school is still operating under some restrictions due to Covid-19. The main one is the inability to have parades, either
full school or year level. We have overcome this and we have collectively become very good at using Skype to still be able
to have these parades.
Hygiene
I wish to remind parents about the ongoing hygiene practices that schools are asking students to partake in. Hand
sanitiser is available in all classrooms and we encourage students to regularly wash their hands. Please keep students
home if they are unwell.
Winter Uniform
With cooler days coming now may be the time to check what the winter uniform options are - these can be found in our
Student School Diary. Please remember to clearly label all student clothing so it can be returned in the event something is
misplaced.
Condolences
You will have received information about the sudden passing of our School Facilities Officer David Grover. Our school is
extremely saddened by this news. David was an integral part of our school for over a decade. He helped organise many
events and was ‘behind the scenes’ of many of the school functions. He was a friend to many and to say he will be missed
is an understatement. I know you will join me in passing on our sincere sympathies to Georgina and the family. As always
there are many support agencies at the school to help the community through this difficult time. Please contact the
school to access these services. I have also included some phone numbers if required.

YEAR 11 CHEMISTRY
The Year 11 Chemistry class has had an exciting return to study. They were either burning alcohols or performing acid/
base neutralisation reactions to determine how much heat is released. The process is called calorimetry and it
measures the changes in temperature. Students will then calculate the heat released by the reactions and compare
them. This is their first senior student experiment. The process they are using is common to how experimental
research is conducted in university studies and real world applications. The report they produce follows the
expectations for professional writing. Their teacher, Ms Kerrison is eager to see the final product of all their dedication
and hard work.

MNM’S CLUB RETURNS TO MONDAY AFTERNOONS!
Mark your calendar, Monday the 25th May the
Makers and Maintainers Club resumes! This is a
place where students use their hands to create
something unique and interesting. School
Captain, James Packer has been working on a
coat and hat rack made from materials from his
family farm. The centre piece displays his skills
as a hunter.
Also, every Monday several of the HPV athletes
are in the workshop rebuilding and improving
the champion trike. It will have a lower centre
of gravity, be more streamlined and modified
to allow for much faster pit stops and driver
changes.
The new normal at Nanango is just great fun.

MATHS HOMEWORK CLUB
I am pleased to inform you that from 27th May, a weekly Maths Homework Club will be launched. The club takes place
every Wednesday in B1 classroom. There are two timeslots available, and your student is welcome to attend both
sessions if they wish.
First Break - 11:30 am to 12:10 pm
After school - 3:15 pm to 4.15 pm
This is an excellent opportunity for your student to complete homework, revise, and receive support or clarification
with their classwork and assignments in Maths.
The classroom provides a safe and happy working environment for students. Support and guidance will be available
from dedicated staff and myself. Please note that attendance to this Homework Club is voluntary and no new
curriculum content will be delivered during this time.
Please encourage your student to make the most out of this fantastic opportunity, and support them in attending on a
regular basis. Students are able to collect a permission slip from me before school or during their break. My office is in
B Block. Please completed and return the permission slip to the Admin office.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require more information or assistance. My phone number is 4171 6444,

HEALTH NEWS
National Reconciliation Week 2020
The theme of this year is ‘In This Together.’ Although, this theme was decided before the pandemic, we can now
identify with this even more. Whether we are in crisis or reconciliation, we are all #inthistogether.
This year for the launch, everyone is asked to take to social media to acknowledge Country. We can’t be physically
together to show respect, but we can show respect to Country where we are. Consult the AIATSIS Map of Indigenous
Australia for a guide to Traditional Owners of land you are on and tag traditional owners and/or your own mob plus
#inthistogether #NRW2020
Reconciliation Australia and ABC are also hosting an hour of deadly
music ‘In Concert Together’ on ABC Radio and Reconciliation Australia
Facebook Livestream 9pm on Friday 29th May.
You may also be interested in a fundraising activity taking place during National Reconciliation Week. Run Rona 2020 is a virtual run or walk taking place 30th & 31st May 2020.
Looking after our physical, emotional and spiritual health right now is
a huge protective factor in staying well. Getting some time outdoors
safely and connecting to the land, Country, does wonders for our well
-being. Body, mind, spirit and Country … it’s all connected and
Aboriginal people have known this for tens of thousands of years.
Find some Rona-vation (motivation) and get outside this weekend. If you want to sign up at https://clothingthegap.com.au/pages/run-rona you can support grassroots Health Promotion Programs in Aboriginal communities. But even if you don’t sign up, it’s free to take a walk or run outside this weekend.
We Run Rona. Rona doesn’t run us.

STANWELL APPRENTICE INTAKE FOR 2021
Stanwell (Tarong) Power Station will very shortly start advertising to Year 12 students for Traineeship and
Apprenticeship positions, to commence at the Power Station in 2021.
Stanwell has created an apprentice and trainee webpage that promotes their intake and provides some career
materials for candidates (cover letter, resume and interview tips).
Stanwell has also developed an Expression of Interest Form for students. By submitting an EOI, they will have the
contact details of that particular student, so that individual students can be notified when the Power Station
apprentice and trainee intake opens later in June.
Any Year 12 student who is interested in applying for these traineeship or apprenticeships in 2021 should visit both
web pages for important details. Providing an Expression of Interest (EOI) is very important so Stanwell can send
information about positions available, directly to students so that they can stay up to date with application details and
key dates. If any year 12 students have any questions regarding the process they can see Mr Snow in C Block for
details.

TUCKSHOP
The new Tuckshop system is working well and due to the positive feedback this way of operation will continue. All students and families can order either online or by ordering and prepaying at the Tuckshop before 9:00 am. Over the counter sales for drinks, chips and ice blocks are still happening.
Many families are enjoying the convenience of ordering and paying via our online app called Qkr! This is a safe and secure app run by MasterCard. It can be downloaded onto all devices. This system has great benefits to students as we are able to guarantee students their favourite lunch and avoid a long wait in the tuckshop queue. Please see instructions below.
For those who do not wish to use online ordering, students are able to order and pay for their lunch prior to school commencing each day. They simply go to the tuckshop and order when they arrive at school. All orders must be in prior to the bell going for Form. Students may pay via cash or EFTPOS.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the school on 41716444.
