Future plans.

1·'hat, then, are our aims at Br-ockham, and how .J.re we r;oing 'to set about achieving these? I think we must conceive this musew::i in the light of the not too distant future, when there will be little or no surviving narrow i:.;auge industrial railways, at least not of any perrnanant charecter, and we must aim to ,carture as widely as joe s i.b Le , the atraosj.hcr-e of these lines and brin[:; it .t.o Brockham whe re it can be aarnj.Led by generations to come.

To trcJ.nslate theory into 1ra:cticre we must bc.1.ve c. museun exhibiting everything which goes to make uj the narrow gauge railway (, for obvious r<:lasons we sh a.l L be mainly concerned with industrial ra i Lways ) • This must include locomotives, r-o l l i.n« stock, track and the variety of equipment associated with these lines. To fully realise the arm cver'yth.ing should be cxh.i.b.i te d, so f'ar as jr.actd ca.L, as a comj-Le te nat.ur-a.l unit, e. i;. a locomotive should be dfi:.spL::iyed with a r oj resentati ve wa:;on f'r on, the sar;e system, on the corroct track, and if pos s i b.Le with a sui t.ab Lo 101.d.

One of our aims at Br ockh.m is to have a Hork:ine: scc t i on of the museum whe r-e some of the sxhibits can be run. This is the only w.J.y in which th0 complete atmos­ phere can be achieved for so much th~t is charecteristic of J narrow gauGe railway is contuined in its actual running.

Now to eet down to details of preserved items. We should like to haw exhibits from as many different industries as possible, both of typicrrl and unusual aspect • ..Je hope to cove r most of the inilluc,tries in Sout he rn Engl .. rnd a.Lthough other par t,s of the country will certaihly not be i[;norod if finances permit. In ,.:.11 fields of preservation, that of wagons is the most neglected, and it is prob...1.bly tho one to which
