Hello 2017! As you make your New
Year’s Resolutions, be kind to yourself.
According to Psychology Today, 50% of
us make New Year’s Resolutions and
40% of us fail to keep them after one
month. I can see this in action at the
yoga class I attend. In January, the class
is as full as it can get. Lots of new faces.
The numbers taper off in February. By
March, we are back to our usual 12-15
people.
I hope those who attended the Decem-
ber luncheon had as much fun as Chris
and I did. The Two Rivers Middle Prep
Orchestra was great. And the extra sing
along was a big hit. Afterward, two peo-
ple said I should have clarified our rela-
tionship when I mentioned Chris and I
are related. So, in the interest of full
disclosure, for those who may have
been in doubt, the Orchestra Director,
Chris Prosser, is my husband. Or as he
likes to say “Mr. Angela”.
Our January Community Service activity
is Book’em. Their mission statement is
“Book’em creates a more literate Nash-
ville by helping economically disadvan-
taged children, from birth through high
school, discover the joy and value of
reading through book ownership and
enthusiastic volunteers”. Our chapter is
collecting new or like-new books as well
as monetary donations. You can bring
items for both the Greyhounds Pets of
America and Book’em to the
January 9, 2017 luncheon meeting or
use one of the drop-off box locations.
The National AGA Office is offering a members-only free training on January 13, 2017. This is for 6 hours of CPE with attendance either in person or virtually. The 2017 Financial Systems Summit will discuss federal financial management systems in a budget-constrained envi-ronment. Not only is the summit free to AGA members, you can attend this one from your desk. The link to register is https://www.agacgfm.org/FSS-2017.aspx Of course, the preferred educational
training event is our Chapter’s Winter
Seminar on January 25 & 26, 2017 at the
Snodgrass Building. Members can earn
up to 16 hours of CPE for only $175. The
link to register is http://

Alternative Workplace Solutions (AWS), an enter-
prise-wide initiative focused on enhancing work-
space use through boosting workforce mobility
and productivity. Prior to joining CFG in January
2016, Reen served as Deputy Commissioner and
Chief Operating Officer for the Tennessee De-
partment of General Services, where she was a
member of the Executive Leadership Team and
responsible for the daily operations of the De-
partment. In this role she was responsible for di-
rect oversight of the internal offices of Human
Resources, Communications, Internal Audit, Gen-
eral Counsel, Legislative Affairs, and Talent Man-
agement. Prior to joining the state in March
2011, Reen was an attorney with Farris Mathews
Bobango, PLC in Nashville. She was honored in
2011 as a Nashville Top 30 under 30 Honoree by
the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Reen is also a
Torchbearer Award recipient from the University
of Tennessee (UT), Knoxville, and is a recipient of
the Dorothy Shaw National Leadership Award.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science
with a concentration in Business Administration
and a minor in Public Administration from UT
Knoxville. She went on to receive a Masters of
Education in Organizational Leadership from
Vanderbilt University before receiving a Doctor-
ate of Jurisprudence from the Nashville School of
Law. She is a former Director-at-Large for the Na-
tional Association of State Chief Administrators
(NASCA) and is a recent member of the Tennes-
see Bar Association Administrative Law Section
Executive Council. Reen is currently serving as
Gala Co-Chair for the 95th Anniversary of the Jun-
ior League of Nashville and is President of the
Tennessee State Museum Young Professional
Council.
Course Outline
This course will begin by defining Alternative
Workplace Solutions (AWS) and will explain why
the State is taking on this initiative. The presen-
tation will include an in-depth overview of the
State’s AWS policy, including Work from Home,
Mobile Work, and Free Address. The presenta-
tion will also discuss current statutory require-
ments, how the AWS policy interacts with the
law, and will describe the parameters in which
agencies must operate. It will communicate to
participants what training is currently provided
by the Department of Human Resources and oth-
er helpful tips to learn more about AWS. Finally,
attendees and course leaders will discuss what
AWS means for our supervisors and employees
as they begin to operate in a more mobile work
environment.
