AbstractThe study of humidity distribution simulation inside a room has been widely conducted by using computationalfluid dynamics (CFD). Here, the simulation was done by employing inputs in the experiment of air humidity reductionin a sample house. Liquid dessicant CaCl was used in this study to absorb humidity in the air, so that the enormityof humidity reduction occured during the experiment could be obtained. The experiment was conducted in themorning at 8 with liquid desiccant concentration of 50%, nozzle dimension of 0.2 mms attached in dehumidifier, andthe debit of air which entered the sample house was 2.35 m3/min. Both in inlet and outlet sides of the room, a DHT11 censor was installed and used to note changes in humidity and temperature during the experiment. In normalcondition without turning on the dehumidifier, the censor noted that the average temperature inside the room was28°C and RH of 65%.The experiment result showed that the relative humidity inside a sample house was decreasingup to 52% in inlet position. Further, through the results obtained from CFD simulation, the temperature distributionand relative humidity inside the sample house could be seen. It showed that the concentration of liquid desiccant of50% experienced a decrease while the relative humidity distribution was considerably good since the average RH was55% followed by the increase in air temperature of 29.2° C inside the sample house. © 2015 AIP Publishing LLC.

ABSTRACT
In the synthesis of metal oxide fine particles by continuous supercritical
hydrothermal method, the particle characteristics are greatly affected
by not only the reaction conditions (temperature, pressure, residence
time, concentration, etc.), but also the heating rate from ambient to
reaction temperature. Therefore, the heating method by direct mixing of
starting solution at room temperature with supercritical water is a key
technology for the particle production having smaller size and narrow
distribution. In this paper, mixing engineering study through
comparison between conventional T-shaped mixers and recently
developed swirl mixers was carried out in the hydrothermal synthesis of
NiO nanoparticles from Ni(NO ) aqueous solution at 400 °C and 30 MPa.
Inner diameter in the mixers and total flow rates were varied.
Furthermore, the heating rate was calculated by computational fluid
dynamics (CFD) simulation. Relationship between the heating rate and
the average particle size were discussed. It was clarified that the

ABSTRACT
Several studies have been reported on the potential health benefits of
cocoa polyphenols. However, drying has an inhibitory effect on the
substantial recovery of cocoa polyphenols. This is majorly because of the
high degradation of polyphenol compounds as well as the enhanced
activity of polyphenol oxidases; a pre-cursor for browning of
polyphenols during drying. Pre-treatment technique such as water
blanching (80° and 90°C for 5 min, 10 min and 15 min exposure times
respectively) can inactivate the polyphenol oxidases enzyme and
promote high percent of the polyphenol recovery in dried cocoa bean.
The degradation kinetics of cocoa polyphenols during hot water

ABSTRACT
Indonesia has a large tropical forest. However, the deforestation still
appears annually and vastly. This reason drives a use of bamboo as wood
alternative. Recently, there are many modifications of bamboo in order
to prolong the shelf life. Unfortunately, the processes need more
chemicals and time. Based on wood modification, esterifying of bamboo
was undertaken in present of a dense gas, i.e. supercritical CO .
Calculation of chemicals loading referred to ASTM D1413-99 by using the
phase equilibrium data at optimum condition by a statistical design. The
results showed that the acetylation of bamboo assisted by supercritical
CO required 14.73 kg acetic anhydride/m of bamboo for a treatment of
one hour.

Heterogeneous base catalysis studied over the last two decades is described
briefly including mainly those performed in our laboratories. This talk begins
with advantages of heterogeneous base catalysts over homogeneous
catalysts in both laboratory and industrial use followed by preparation,
activation and utilization of the catalysts. Commonly, MgO, CaO, SrO, BaO,
La2O3 and Sm2O3 are used as heterogeneous base catalysts. However, in
recent years, the use of silica based mesoporous materials such as MCM-41,
SBA-15 and MSN as heterogeneous base catalysts has been explored widely
due to high surface area, large pore size, modifiable and possesses moderate
to strong basic sites. In addition, mesoporous materials exhibit low diffusion
limitations and high accessibility of reactant to the active sites which led to
high activity and stability of the catalysts. Most of the heterogeneous base
catalysts, variations in activity as a function of activation temperature showed
a volcano shape; an incline with the temperature results from an appearance
of basic sites by removal of water and carbon dioxide from the surface and a
decline results from an elimination of basic sites by rearrangement of surface
atoms. ESR, FTIR and XRD data evidenced the altering of the concentration
of basic sites and crystallinity or structure of the catalysts. In general, the
heterogeneous base catalysis can be classified into three types; double bond
isomerization, addition of anion and proton to various double bonds, and
alcohol decomposition. These are represented by 1-butene isomerization,
hydrogenation of conjugated 1,3-butadiene and dehydration of 2-butanol. In
addition, bifunctional base-catalyzed reactions in which basic sites participate
in one step of successive steps are exemplified for methylisobutyl ketone
synthesis, metathesis, Tishchenko reaction and side-chain alkylation of
toluene. Recently, our research group has focused on the hydrogenation of
CO2 over mesoporous base materials for producing of methane. This is an
important catalytic process of fundamental academic interest with potential
commercial application. This technique can be used to convert exhausted
CO2 into methane (CH4), which can be recycled for use as a fuel or a
chemical as well as by contributing to the reduction of CO2 emissions. The
use of heterogeneous base catalysts is preferable in terms of activity, stability,
separation, handling, and reuse, which reflects in lower costs for large-scale
production.
