GENERAL INFORMATION

• The National University of Mongolia is the country’s oldest and most comprehensive university and a leading center of sciences, education and culture.

• It was established on October 5, 1942 in the capital city Ulaanbaatar with three faculties: Pedagogical, Medical and Veterinary Sciences.

NUM International Student Service

• Disseminate information in study at NUM, communicated with international students and provide advice

• Provide admission and inform about pre-departure matters including visa, accommodation arrangements such as dormitory room, private housing and homestay

• Airport pick up, settlement and orientation and residential permission obtaining

• Advice and help with academic matters including registration with relevant schools and departments, language program, mentoring and research

• Settlement of financial matters such as tuition and fees• Frequent communication on academic matters and

personal issues.

Field Studies and Internship

• Language Teaching Assistant (Communicative English, German, French, Spanish and Italian)

• Historical, cultural and biological field studies in the countryside

• Internship in private companies (primarily in cities)

• Project assistant (scientific, development projects)

Academic Matters • Academic semester:

– 2 semesters each 16 weeks

– Summer semester: 4th week of June and up to 12 weeks

• Semester commencement: – 1st intake September 1

– 2nd intake and 3rd week of January

• Application deadline: – July 20 for 1st semester

– December 1 for the second semester

– May 15 for summer semester

How to Apply

• Necessary documents to send– Application form of NUM

– Medical form of NUM with HIV test

– Academic Transcripts

– Enrolment letter or certificate

– 1 recommendation letter

– Passport copy

– 1 photo

– Fee for invitation and application

• Send documents to International Affairs Office • Wait for admission letter• Entire process takes 6-8 weeks

Pre-arrival issues

• Inform your accommodation preference

• Obtain “S” visa at the nearest Mongolian Embassy (your visa invitation letter is sent to the Mongolian Embassy abroad where you should get the visa)

• Inform about your arrival date and time to OIA for pick up

Post-arrival issues

• Lodge into your accommodation and settle • Come to International Affairs Office within a week

after arrival for immigration registration (if stay more than 30 days in Mongolia)

• Pay tuition and dorm fees through OIA • Get registered at relevant programs and departments

through OIA• Obtain your student card and enroll in a course• Get exit and entry visa every time you leave the

country

Financial Issues • University tuition: Waived • Other academic fees

– Summer Field Studies organisation and coordination fee: $ 1000-1500

– Field studies and internship mentors’ fee: $ 1000-1500

– Departmental fee: to be decided

– General service fee: to be decided

• Non-Academic Fees:– Application fee: $ 25

– Visa fee: depend on the category, about $ 50

– Residential Permission Fee: $ 40
