The Science Fair will open theminds of our youth to science withpresentations from professionalscientific researchers about excit-ing avenues for the future.

Throughout the week in Darwinyou can visit the Waterfront and dis-cover the interactive science ex-hibits, or head to the Smith St Mallto interact with a roving clown andfind some science fun facts.

Darwin City libraries have activi-ties with primate researcher andconservationist Dr Carla Litchfield.

She will hold an evening sessionat 6pm on Thursday, August 15 atthe Casuarina Library, as well asdoing story time with CSIRO from10am at each city library from Mon-day to Thursday.

Speakers include Amateur Fish-ermen’s Association of the NorthernTerritory chief executive Craig In-gram, Northern Australia Hub ofthe National Environmental Re-search Program director Prof Mi-chael Douglas and NT Departmentof Land Resource Management’sTerrestrial Ecosystems director DrGraeme Gillespie.

of Chasing Ice, a fantastic and grip-ping cinema journey into the wayglaciers are melting in front of oureyes due to global warming.

Doors open at 6.30pm.The CSIRO education centre will

present two events.The first is a family afternoon at

he education centre in Berrimahwhere students between 7 and 12years old can explore and exper-iment with a range of hands-on ac-tivities.

Then, on Sunday, they will pres-ent a stall at the teddy bears Picnic

in the George Brown Botanic gar-dens for the younger scientistsamongst us.

The Menzies School of Health Re-search, will host the 2013 ScienceSesh.

The event will showcase the re-search Menzies undertakes to im-prove indigenous and tropicalhealth; motivate students to thinkabout how science underpins healthresearch and inspire students toconsider science careers.

Year 11 and Year 12 students willhave the opportunity to hear from adynamic team of leading re-searchers, which will showcase

some of their current projects.The Menzies Science Sesh will be

held Friday, August 16 at CharlesDarwin University’s Mal NairnAuditorium from 9am to 3pm.

In addition, there is also the Liv-ing with Wildlife Photo Essay Com-petition allowing people to explore,build appreciation and tell storiesabout the important wildlife thatlives in our urban area.

All entries in this competitionwill be exhibited over Science Weekat the George Brown Botanic Gar-dens in Darwin and the Olive PinkBotanic Gardens in Alice Springsduring Science Week 2013.
