Catholic School’s week was a great success. The support we receive from the parish is tremendously appreciated. The Theme of the week was “Faith, Knowledge and Service.” We spent time this week reflecting on how our school practices and displays these important aspects of our faith. We would like to thank everyone that attended our Spaghetti dinner. It was a wonderful turn out and the food was great! Thanks also to all those that donated their time, talent and treasure to make sure this event was successful. A special thanks to Dan Kessler and Josh Pryne for coordinating this years event!
“The love of God, truly, comes towards us; it is like a swelling river that engulfs us without overwhelming us. The more we allow ourselves to be taken up by this love, the more our life will be renewed. “ - Pope Francis

Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
"Again you have heard that it was said to your ancestors, Do not take a false oath, but make good to the Lord all that you vow. But I say to you, do not swear at all. Let your 'Yes' mean 'Yes' and your 'No' mean 'No.'" - Mt 5:33-34a, 37
************************************************************** "Whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the kingdom of heaven." Jesus presents two paths for us today: we can break his commandments or obey them. And the result corresponds to our choice. If we decide not to follow God's guidelines, we will not enjoy the fullness of the kingdom of heaven. But if we choose otherwise, eternity will look much brighter for us! Of course, it's easy to know in our minds what the right choice is. But putting this into practice is another matter. The commandments Jesus gives in today's Gospel are not easy to follow. He takes the ancient Ten Commandments to a deeper level of commitment. He says more than do not kill. Rather, do not even harbor anger in our hearts. He says more than do not commit adultery. Rather, do not even indulge in lustful thoughts. He says more than do not lie. Rather, do not even swear. Undoubtedly, Jesus is asking us to chart a challenging course. But he would not expect us to follow these directives if it were impossible to do so. And it's important to bear in mind that Jesus doesn't set high standards to test or punish us. His love for us is at the root of everything he teaches us. Following these commandments, challenging though they may be, will in fact make us happier people, both now and in eternity! As with so many good things in life, committed effort on our part is necessary--whether it be maintaining good health, accomplishing a certain skill, or earning a sought-after award. So too with a soul that is truly free. We need to exercise a life of virtue by taking the advice of Jesus Christ, the best life coach we could ever hope to have.

Taize’ Prayer
Prayer is a serene force at work within human beings, stirring them up, changing their hearts,
never allowing them to close their eyes in the face of evil, of wars, of all that threatens the innocent of this world.
From it we draw the energy to wage other struggles, to transform the human condition,
and to make the earth a place fit to live in.
Come, experience Taize’ Prayer on Monday, February 13, at 7:00 PM. As always, our time together will be a chance to un-crowd our hearts and minds and refresh our spirits. Come and bask in the light of candles and the warmth of friendship, raise your voices in simple and prayerful songs, attend to God’s message in Scripture, and listen in silence for God’s voice in your heart.
SOUP FOR THE
SOUL
Fast, pray, receive ashes and join us for bread and soup on Wednesday, March 1st
Sponsored by Nativity of Mary’s Religious Education Committee
A long standing tradition of our parish is coming back!! Yes indeed, this Ash Wednesday, soup and bread will be offered after BOTH our 12:10 pm Ash Service and our 6:15 pm Ash Wednesday Mass. Come join us in our Parish Hall after you receive your ashes. On this day of fasting, enjoy a light meal of bread and soup along with good fellowship to begin our Lenten season.
Please let us know you’ll be coming by adding your name to the list at the front entrance of the church. We’re also seeking volunteers for each meal; look for a sign-up sheet in the church vestibule.
Make dinner a selfless act by joining us for a fundraiser to
support Janesville Crop Walk. Come in to the Chipotle at 3515 Milton Avenue Suite 105 in Janesville on Saturday, February 18th between 4:30 & 8:30 PM. Tell the cashier you’re supporting the cause to make sure that 50% of the proceeds will be donated to Janesville Crop Walk.
February is National Senior Independence Month
Did you know that February is National Senior Independence Month? As we age, it becomes more difficult to maintain independence and take care of ourselves. It can be challenging to stay active, socialize, and eat well – especially if you have a medical condition.
Catholic Charities’ Adult Day Center in Madison helps to keep seniors in their own homes and communi-ties by offering an affordable alternative to nursing homes and in-home healthcare. Our center provides individualized care for adults with medical conditions and has a specific program for those with dementia/Alzheimer’s. We have an RN, CNAs, and Recreation Specialists on staff and are a certified Music & Memory facility.
You're invited the center’s open house on Wednesday, April 26th from 5-6:30 p.m. Tour our new facility, learn about the services we offer, and enjoy light snacks and refreshments.
Contact Nichole Kraemer at 608-663-7117 ext. 8106 if you have questions or would like a personal tour. The center is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday.
