Gaastra all season sailing

The photos in this brand new Gaastra Magazine were taken

during a trip along the Mediterranean coast in the off-

season. This is quite a magical time to cruise around this

area. You should really try it some time. It’s a lot quieter than

usual, but all the famous features are there: the beautiful

deep blue sea, the picturesque coastlines, the marinas full

of luxurious yachts, the great restaurants and clubs… even

the weather is pretty decent.

The off-season presented excellent opportunities to highlight

the various features of the Gaastra Fall/Winter 2012

collections. The functional Sportswear items offer all you

need to face the ever-changing temperatures and winds and

the most luxurious Breton items are the perfect attire for

a dinner in one of the prestigious restaurants or a night

of serious club-hopping. For all the other moments, both

collections offer several, beautiful, comfortable and stylish

casual outfits. Gaastra Footwear, designed according to the

Grip on any Deck philosophy, is suitable for any activity.

It is this unique mix of functionality and fashion to which

Gaastra owes its reputation as the nautical lifestyle brand.

Gaastra Pro offers protection without compromise for

hardcore sailors, the Sportswear collection offers a nice mix

Passion for sailing at the highest level is deeply embedded

in the DNA of the Gaastra brand. In fact, it was the main

reason for Douwe Gaastra to start a sail making company

in the first place. Today Gaastra’s commitment is still clearly

The Sportswear Collection, Gaastra’s casual and sporty

signature collection, is divided into two themes: ROUGH SEAS and OFFSHORE WINDS. For the Rough Seas theme,

the designers drew inspiration from the world of offshore

sailing. It is dominated by black, navy and white designs,

striking reflective applications and rubber embossed prints.

The items are cool, casual and radiate pure adventure.

Offshore Winds is a more colorful theme, characterized by

large color blocking, stenciled graphics and a very elegant look

and feel.

Inspired by Gaastra’s rich nautical history.

Breton is the most fashionable Gaastra Collection. Named

after the famous Breton stripe, this luxurious and elegant

collection always draws inspiration from the rich nautical

history. This year Gaastra presents two themes: COASTAL VOYAGE, with an edgy but elegant worn look and feel, and

SEAPORT HERITAGE, a very classy translation of the

authentic nautical style, with a beautiful pallet of very

subtle colors.

Seaport Heritage Sailor style reinvented

Gaastra’s nautical mastery throughout its existence, inspired

the designers to create a nostalgic tribute to the sailor

style. The Seaport Heritage theme brings the authentic

nautical look back to life. This collection of sturdy classics

is very rich in beautiful details, with hand painting inspired

artworks. Seaport Heritage radiates a sense of nostalgia,

emphasized by a slightly worn look, but it is clearly a very

contemporary collection.

The subtle color palette, with navy, off-white and the new

‘sail’ and ‘biscuit’ colors, brings a feeling of pure class to the

Seaport Heritage theme. The sturdy and robust materials,

details and finishes add a sense of ruggedness. This is very

evident in reinvented classics such as the chunky jacquards

and cool double-breasted caban style cardigans and jackets.
