This part is a corollary to the first part and herein, the number of Navamsas from the ascendant to the Lagna is calculated and results deduced therefrom. We shall call this as method 2. Explanations given by him: Count the number of Navamsas from Lagna Navamsa to the Navamsa of the most unfavourable (by position or otherwise) amongst Sun, Mars, Saturn, Rahu, Gulika, Thrisphuta and Mrityu. Note this number. If that planet is very unfavourable, treat it as the number of days; if he is less unfavourable, treat this as number of months; if he is least unfavourable, treat this as number of years. Then predict that the questioner will live for such length of time as is in accordance with the evil nature of the planet mentioned. C.S.patel has the following explanation: This one line of verse indicates a method to reckon the number from the Navamsa occupied by the ascendant to the most evil planets. Similarly, from the ascendant Navamsa to the Navamsa occupied by benefics, the numbers of Navamsas be found out both inclusive. This method is complimentary to the first method (i.e. planet to the ascendant vs the ascendant to the planet). [The first method has already been explained in my article Navamsa technique]. Good and bad events are indicated in the respective years depending on the planet being benefic or malefic respectively. Though this technique is to be used in Prasna and that too for longevity purposes only, as per explanations given by Dr. Raman, Sri C.S.Patel has used it in the natal chart too, but to determine the good and bad events including longevity. Hence it becomes necessary to verify the technique. Let us

I have already dealt with one of the Navamsa techniques in the first part based on the number of

Navamsas from the planet to the ascendant. This part is a corollary to the first part and herein, the

number of Navamsas from the ascendant to the Lagna is calculated and results deduced therefrom.

We shall call this as method 2. In subsequent parts I shall be writing about more techniques. In both

the techniques, though the exact age of the native is not pin pointed, it does give a cluse ot the

likelihood of happening of some bad events or some good events. As is with all Astrological

principles, more and more analysis of charts may lead us to some definite conclusion.

Prasna Marga – Chapter X – Verse 59

The translation according to Prof.B.V.Raman is:

The number of Navamsas from Lagna Navamsa to the Navamsa occupied by the most evil planet

amongst mandi etc., represents the number of days, months or years, according to the intensity of

affliction, within which the queriest’s death may take place.

Explanations given by him:

Count the number of Navamsas from Lagna Navamsa to the Navamsa of the most unfavourable (by

position or otherwise) amongst Sun, Mars, Saturn, Rahu, Gulika, Thrisphuta and Mrityu. Note this

number. If that planet is very unfavourable, treat it as the number of days; if he is less unfavourable,

treat this as number of months; if he is least unfavourable, treat this as number of years. Then

predict that the questioner will live for such length of time as is in accordance with the evil nature of

the planet mentioned.

C.S.patel has the following explanation:

This one line of verse indicates a method to reckon the number from the Navamsa occupied by the

ascendant to the most evil planets. Similarly, from the ascendant Navamsa to the Navamsa occupied

by benefics, the numbers of Navamsas be found out both inclusive. This method is complimentary to

the first method (i.e. planet to the ascendant vs the ascendant to the planet). [The first method has

already been explained in my article Navamsa technique]. Good and bad events are indicated in the

respective years depending on the planet being benefic or malefic respectively.

Though this technique is to be used in Prasna and that too for longevity purposes only, as per

explanations given by Dr. Raman, Sri C.S.Patel has used it in the natal chart too, but to determine the

good and bad events including longevity. Hence it becomes necessary to verify the technique. Let us

use the same charts as used in the article titled ‘Navamsa technique’ and find the results of this

method.

The native was affected by a serious illness in her 48th year and the same was cured in her 49th year.

The illness was diagnosed when the native was 47 years and 1 month and hence Rahu can be taken

for the responsibility. It was cured in her 49th year and Jupiter is responsible for the same. Since as

per Dr. Raman, Gulika, Thrisphuta and Mrityu are also to be considered they have also been included

here. Here surprisingly Gulika is showing the year 49 which is from March 1969 to March 1970 and

she was cured in June 1969. As more details are not available in this case we will go to the next

chart.

Chart 03

The natives brother met with a motocycle accident and died in May 2010. The native was running

her 24th year at that time.

Lagna is 05° Aq 06’ and the Navamsa number is 92.

Saturn is in 27° Sc 18; and the Navamsa number is 72. Hence the total number of Navamsas from the

Lagna to the planet is (108-92)+1+72=89. The multiples of age are – 5, 17, 29, 41, 53, 65, 77, 89. So

Saturn is not the cause of the grief.

Ra is in 17° Pi 19 and the Navamsa number is 105. From Navamsa of Lagna to the Navamsa of planet

the number comes to (105-92)+1 = 14 and its multiples would be 26, 38….. So Ra also does not

signify the grief.

Ma is in 12° Ta 30 and the Navamsa number is 4. From Navamsa of Lagna to the Navamsa of planet

the number comes to (108-92)+1+4 = 21 and surely this is not the planet.

Su is in 0° Ar 45 and the Navamsa is 1. The number of Navamsa from the Lagna to the planet will be

(108-92)+1+1= 18 and this also does not give any indications.

Gulika is 1° Li 58 and the Navamsa number is 55. The number of Navamsa from Lagna to the planet is

(108-92)+1+55=72 and the multiples would be 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72 and hence Gulika is responsible

for bringing the grief.

Mrityu is 29° Sg 51 and the Navamsa number is 81. The number of Navamsa from Lagna to the

planet is (108-92)+1+81=98 and the multiples would be 2, 14, 26, 38, 50, 62, 74, 86, 98 and hence

Mrityu does not figure.

Trisphuta is 18° Aq 24 and the Navamsa number is 96 and the Navamsa from Lagna to the planet is

(96-92)+1 = 7 and the multiples are 19, 31… and hence not responsible.
