Where will I study?This full-time course will be taught at your local centre.

What qualifications do I need to enrol on this course?Prospective students will be expected to have Communications Intermediate 1 (or equivalent) plus either two Standard Grades or an NC Digital Media Computing qualification at Level 4. Students will also be expected to have a genuine interest in digital media and computer games.

Will I receive a recognised qualification?Yes, upon completing the course you will achieve an SQA group award at Level 5.

How can I continue to develop my skills?When you have successfully completed the course you can progress to a Level 6 Digital Media course or consider an HNC in Computing, Computing Animation or Computer Games Development.

Computer games are being used increasingly for leisure, in education and work-based training with players interacting via personal computers, consoles, PDAs, mobile devices and web browsers. Computer gaming is now a growing industry, with Scotland one of the global leaders.

This course has been designed to introduce students to the very specific practical skills required within the specialised area of computer games design and to enhance further study and employability skills through a formally recognised qualification.

The course will introduce the following areas:

• Computer games design• Computer games development• Animation skills• Audio and video editing• Character creation• Narrative design and development• Media assets• Fiction

Students are also required to study the following mandatory units: Introduction to Creative Industries, The Creative Process, Creative Project, Skills Development, Social Networking and Working for Yourself.

Candidates completing this course will also achieve the following National Progression Awards (NPAs):-

• NPA Computer Games Development• NPA Art and Design: Digital Media• NPA Digital Media Animation• NPA Skills for Work: Creative Industries
