Netball Tasmania’s five-year strategic plan is reviewed annually in consultation with its members and key stakeholders. The strategic plan is used to develop an annual operating plan and budget.

Netball Tasmania’s programs and activities return significant financial, social and health benefits to Tasmania.

Children are actively engaged and supported to particpate in activities that not only instill good habits for lifelong health, but also provide key skills in team work, leadership, and cognitive development.

Communities are supported and encouraged to work collaboratively on a wide range of activities. Netball involves volunteers at every level and ability and Netball Tasmania provides training, experience and the opportunity for people to make a real difference to the lives of others in their community.

High profile events bring financial benefit to the State as well as giving Tasmanians the opportunity to engage with some of the best athletes, coaches and officials in Australia. This has a demonstrated positive effect on development of our own potential elite athletes and inspires them to achieve success in their chosen fields of activity.

Tasmania’s volunteer and paid workforce are supported and encouraged to gain new skills and experience, which enables them to deliver sustainable services and activities across the whole community.

Market AnalysisNetball is played by more than 1.2 million people

in schools, community and competitions, and at representative and professional levels across Australia. Netball has the highest level of female participation of any team sport in Australia and one of the highest rates of participation of any Tasmanian sport.

Netball inhabits a dominant market position within the space for women’s sport. It is the most visible sport in Australia for women and has a lengthy tradition within the Tasmanian community that has built product trust and comfort over many years.

Environmental AnalysisNetball Tasmania recognises that the current

economic climate is challenging and has a strategic goal to ensure that participation in netball is available to all members of the community, especially those who face challenges or need support to overcome impairement.

The strategies developed to assist in achieving this goal include promotion of inclusion and minimising the cost of netball to participants in areas of low socio-economic communities and those most affected by a struggling economy.

Netball Tasmania acknowledges that successful achievement of this is dependent upon developing a sound commercial basis for the future including diverse products and services to meet the changing needs of the community.

Competitor AnalysisNetball currently holds a strong position but

competition from other sports and non-sporting activities requires close monitoring to ensure that netball remains a valued activity for the Tasmanian community.

For netball to continue to provide benefit to the Tasmanian community, it must direct significant resources towards development of programs designed to meet the needs of the changing consumer market.

As one of the sports with the capacity to host world-class events in Tasmania, a key area for development is in attracting more international events and activities to Tasmania.

COMMUNICATIONEffective communication supports and promotes the activities designed to achieve the key strategic goals.

Netball Tasmania’s primary communication methods are electronic: email, website, facebook and twitter. New digital media options are being developed and adopted by the netball community, which will continue to drive personalised information services and interaction.

Netball Tasmania also places a high value on personal interaction with affiliated associations, State League clubs, and volunteers. This includes conferences, workshops and training activities, staff attendance at committee meetings, and one-on-one meetings on specific topics.

Netball Tasmania will continue to source speakers and presenters of a high calibre to support the work of ambassadors and other key personnel.
