Chapter 1: Overview

Equitrac Office Interaction With NetWareThe Equitrac Office NetWare print server supports network print tracking and charging for NDPS print devices shared on a NetWare print server.

NDPS Printing

The NDPS subsystem informs the Equitrac Accounting Module about new jobs. The NDPS subsystem sends the following messages to the Equitrac Accounting Module:

• When a job starts.

• When a job is completely spooled and starts to print.

• When a print job is complete.

The Equitrac Accounting Module asks the Equitrac DRE how to continue with the job. The DRE instructs the module to perform one of three functions:

• Drop the job: The Equitrac Accounting Module deletes the job from the print spooler.

• Spool the job: The Equitrac Accounting Module spools the job to a file, deletes the job from the print spooler, and informs the Equitrac DRE when spooling is complete. The Equitrac Accounting Module calls the Equitrac page counting module to count the job and reports the job information to DRE.

• Print the job: The NDPS printer agent prints the job on the printer, and informs the Equitrac Accounting Module that the job is complete. The Equitrac Accounting Module calls the Equitrac page counting module to count the job and reports the job information to DRE.

Chapter 1: Overview

Server LicensingThe Equitrac Office NetWare print server is licensed per server. Each server uses a print server license on the Equitrac Office core accounting server. If the number of print servers exceeds the number of licenses you have, the unlicensed servers will not record any printing activity.

For information on licensing components with Equitrac Office, refer to the Equitrac Office Installation Guide.

See Equitrac Office License Verification on page 15 for details on NetWare print server license verification in Equitrac Office.

Preparation OverviewPreparing the NetWare print server to function as an Equitrac Office print server consists of the following steps.

1 Verify Equitrac Office licensing on the CAS. See Equitrac Office License Verification on page 15 for details.

2 Designate a remote management workstation instead of installing on the CAS, if desired. See Installing Equitrac Office Components Remotely on page 17 for details.

3 Prepare the NetWare print server for Equitrac Office. See Preparing the NetWare Print Server on page 18 for details.

NetWare Print Server Guide 14

Page 15: Netware Print Server Guide

Equitrac Office License Verification

Equitrac Office License VerificationAll software license verification takes place on the accounting server. The accounting server validates all existing licenses, and assigns licenses as necessary. Components must contact the accounting server to obtain the use of a particular license. For example, print servers receive licenses from the accounting server, based on the server name.

The accounting server itself is licensed on a per-machine basis; your initial purchase of Equitrac Office includes one license. This license also enables one print server. The print server may reside locally on the same machine as the accounting server, or on a remote machine, regardless of whether the machine is running Windowsor NetWare.

When the accounting server starts up, it looks for a valid license for itself. If it finds a valid license, the startup continues. Otherwise, the server logs an error message and continues to operate in unlicensed mode. This means it ignores any transaction reports from print servers, and informs any components requesting licenses that the server is currently unlicensed.

See the Equitrac Office Installation Guide for details on Equitrac Office licensing.

2 Click the Licensing link.

3 Select the Assignment view on the options bar above the right pane.

4 In the right pane, look for an unassigned print server license. If none is available, you must enter a license code for an additional print server, or reassign an existing license. See the Equitrac Office Installation Guide for details.

16 NetWare Print Server Guide

Page 17: Netware Print Server Guide

Installing Equitrac Office Components Remotely

Installing Equitrac Office Components RemotelyYou can designate multiple, separate servers for a print server—such as a Windows print server, NetWare print server—instead of configuring the CAS as the print server.

See Preparing the NetWare Print Server on page 18 for details on configuring a NetWare print server for Equitrac Office.

You can also designate a remote management workstation to run Equitrac Office System Manager instead of configuring the CAS as the management workstation. See the Equitrac Office Administration Guide for details.

Install and configure the CAS server prior to configuring a Windows management workstation, or configuring additional, dedicated print servers. See the Equitrac Office Installation Guide for details on installing and configuring a CAS server.

Chapter 2: Preparing the NetWare Server For Equitrac Office

Preparing the NetWare Print ServerComplete the following process to prepare the NetWare print server for Equitrac Office.

1. Copying Equitrac Office files to the NetWare Print Server

1 Map a drive to the volume on the NetWare server where you want to install Equitrac Office.

2 Extract the Equitrac Office 4.1 NetWare zip file from the installation CDROM to the mapped drive to copy all required files to their appropriate subfolders.

3 At the NetWare console, add the install directory to the search path.

If this is an upgrade from 4.0.x, you have the option of copying the 4.1 files to your existing installation folder and skipping the above step and the following step.

2. Adding the Equitrac Office Search Path for Server Restarts

These steps ensure the path is available on future restarts of the NetWare server.

1 Browse to the NetWare server SYS:\system subdirectory.

2 Open the autoexec.ncf file.

3 Add the install directory (by default VOL:\EE4) to the search path where VOL is the volume you installed it on.

4 Save the autoexec.ncf file.

3. Loading the Equitrac Document Routing Engine for Server Restarts

1 Edit the autoexec.ncf file to automatically load the EQDRESrv.nlm file at startup.

2 Save the autoexec.ncf file.

4. Setting autoexec.ncf delay

1 Edit the autoexec.ncf file to set a load delay of approximately 15 seconds between loading the NDPS Broker and loading the EQDRESrv.nlm.

The amount of delay time required depends on system speed.

2 Save and close the autoexec.ncf file.

5. Identifying Equitrac CAS

To configure the location of the CAS to which the DRE should communicate, run the EQSetCAS.nlm utility from the NetWare console.

For example, run the following command:

18 NetWare Print Server Guide

Page 19: Netware Print Server Guide

Preparing the NetWare Print Server

EQSetCAS -e yourserver.com

You can specify the name of the CAS server as a fully-qualified name or an IP address. For example,

EQSetCAS -e 192.168.97.100

6. Loading the DRE

1 Ensure that the NDPS Manager is running.

2 At the NetWare Console, load EQDRESrv.nlm.

7. Configuring DRE to Store Cache Files in a Specified Location

DRE uses SQLite to store information in cache files. SQLite requires the cache files to be located on an NSS volume. If an NSS volume is not available to run DRE, you can create a small NSS volume to store just the DRE cache files.

Load EQDRESrv.NLM with the command-line argument -c <vol:\directory> to specify the location for storing cache files.
