Remembering to Pray Author: Grace E. Easley

“Ask and it shall be given,”

So the Lord would have you pray. “Seek and you will surely find,”

For He will show the way. “Knock and it shall be opened,”

Do you think God is about To turn His back upon us,

    Knowing all we are without?

We are as little children, In this valley full of tears,

We need His love to guide us, And give meaning to the years. To cross life’s troubled waters,

There is not a better way, Than in clinging to Him tightly,

    And remembering to pray.

Hunger Hike is an annual community fundraising event whose mission is to raise awareness and make a difference in the fight against hunger. So join our CUMC team to raise $500.00 and

let’s walk together to make a difference!!!!! Hunger Hike 2020 will kick off Sunday, September 13th with a week long challenge and then on Sunday, September 20th at 1pm they will host a livestream event and 3K walk. CUMC Outreach Ministries is asking you to join us in the fight against hunger. The proceeds from Hunger Hike support the work of three different agencies.

    1. Lafayette Urban Ministry will use it to feed the homeless, stock the LUM Protein Food Pantry, and feed children in the after school and summer childcare programs.

    2. Food Finders Food Bank, Inc. will use it to feed people impacted by COVID-19 here in Tippecanoe County.

    3. St. Thomas Aquinas Haiti Ministry will use it to promote the hybrid seed and food storage programs, open a community store, and bring clean drinking water to the parish of Baudin.

So get a team of family, friends, co-workers and neighbors together, set a goal and just walk. Maybe 50 cents for every mile walked or how about $5.00 for every mile walking. If walking is not your thing, that’s fine, you can still support us through a donation and your prayers. If you would like to support Hunger Hike, go to www.christumchurch.org/giving and choose Hunger Hike 2020, or send a check with Hunger Hike 2020 in the memo line to the church office: 3610 S. 18th St., Lafayette, IN 47909. All donations will then be presented to Hunger Hike. Contact Carol Yarian | [email protected] if you would like a Hunger Hike form for colleting donations or for any questions.

    Food Pantry Contributions Needed

Our Tippecanoe County United Food Pantry, supported by 36 churches, is now operating weekly with an outside pickup at 14th and Tippecanoe Streets. As a result, September is the time for our church to contribute non-perishable food items. Following are some items of need: canned fruit and vegetables, macaroni and cheese, canned soup and canned tomatoes, pasta and pasta sauces. Please bring your contributions to the west end of the Narthex where items will be collected during September. Thank you for any assistance you can give.

    It’s not always EASY,

    its’ not always FUN,

but we THANK YOU SO MUCH

for continuing to teach with all your heart, for the love you share, the smiles you put on their faces, your patience, the laughter that fills the classrooms and the challenges ahead. CUMC wants you, our teachers, to know that we are keeping

you in our prayers and sending our love and blessings for the 2020-2021 school year…a year like no other!

I would like to thank everyone for the many prayers and cards I received following my mom’s death. Randy and I are blessed to have such a great church family. The night before my mom passed away she was reading scriptures to my niece, my daughter and I and wanted to be sure she would see us in heaven some day. She was a woman of great faith and was ready to see Jesus and my dad.
