Sometimes we get so used to seeing common plants and wildlife that we forget how interesting and exciting they are. Go on this scavenger hunt in your neighbourhood to learn more about the nature we see all the time. Check them off the list when you see them, but don't forget to watch closely and observe them. Try to notice something new! NEIGHBOURHOOD SCAVENGER HUNT The (extra)ordinary SQUIRREL Squirrels need to hide food away in order to survive winter. Is the squirrel you found hiding or finding food? FORGET-ME-NOT If you didn't know its name before, you won't forget it now! The tiny blue flowers o these plants bloom in late spring into early summer. CHIPMUNK Chipmunks are omnivores and can fit food into their cheek pouches that is up to 3 times the size of their head.! ROBIN Robins have exceptional eyesight. The can see tiny movements in the soil, which is how they find the worms they eat. CROW Crows are incredibly smart. Its been proven that they make and use tools, and even recognize faces and people. ANT Ants are social insects who live in colonies and have jobs, very similar to honey bees. What is the ant you've found doing? What could its job be? LICHEN What's that?! Lichen (pronounced "like-in") is a combination of algae and fungi that can grow on trees, rocks or even bricks. GULL There are many types of gulls, but the most common one in our region is called the Ring-billed gull. Can you tell why? f
