Hepworth Rail is committed to the design, manufacture and supply of windscreenwiping systems, washing equipment and associated control systems of excellentquality, performance, reliability and safety which satisfy the needs, expectationsand requirements of our Rail customers.

Incorporated into the design and validation processes will be the experience gainedfrom an extensive background of type, endurance, routine and where required, shock,vibration and temperature testing data. Additionally, the requirements of ElectromagneticCompatibility Directives are met and certification issued for all wiper systems.

Our Quality Assurance System to BS EN ISO 9001:2008 Certificate number 928811and IRIS 2 Certificate No. LRQ0928811/B ensures that we have control of all critical activities

and that a process of continuous improvement is achieved.

Every system undergoes testing, either using our own testprocedures or carried out to the specific requirements of thecustomer. Some of these tests include:

Hepworth Rail International, part of the B. Hepworth & Co. LtdGroup has succeeded in becoming one of the first UK ownedcompanies awarded International Railway Industry Standard 02(IRIS 02) Certification by LRQA.

The Redditch based West Midlands Company is now in the enviableposition of being a first tier global supplier to Bombardier, Siemens,Alstom etc, with the UNIFE promoted IRIS 02 accreditation, whichhas been modelled on similar quality standards already in place in theaerospace and automotive industries and complements theinternationally recognised ISO 9001 quality standard.

IRIS 02 (International Railway Industry Standard) is a certified approvalsprocess led by the Union of the European Railway Industries (UNIFE)and not only instigated but fully supported by four of the largest rollingstock manufacturers (Bombardier, Siemens, Alstom and AnsaldoBreda). It is specific to the railway industry and designed to measurethe effectiveness of a company’s management systems.

W E L D I N G E N 1 5 0 8 5Hepworth Rail are one of only a few manufacturing companies in the UK that are fully approvedand certified to EN15085-2 by an accredited auditor for both the manufacture and design of allits wiper and wash systems along with fabrication work.

EN 15085 mandates that all manufacturers of welded railway products, to be sold and used in theEU, follow a defined review, design and approval process achieving appropriate joint specificcertification and approvals through a controlled quality process prior to manufacture.

The welded products are certified to their design and fabricationrequirements, confirmed by a suitably qualified weld coordinator, according to the applicablestandards for each joint and welder. EN 15085 Certification is absolutely necessary for any railwayequipment manufacturers and, with this in mind and in order to fully support Hepworth Rail'scustomers, approval was sought and independently accredited in 2011.

This special welding certification has been introduced and certified across the Hepworth Group asa requirement from our customers in the manufacture of railway vehicles and their parts.

MOTOR OPT IONS There are various voltage and torquecombinations available, with all Hepworth Railmotors compliant to the latest UK and EU RailSpecifications including IEC 61373 etc.

CONTROL UNITSA complete range of control units are available, from single to multi operationalwhich can be flush or bulkhead mounted.

Voltages from 24v to 110v are covered, and control unitscombining reliable and independent control for any number ofwipers can be supplied.

Each element of the control unit undergoes extensivetesting and measurement to comply with EMC

regulations, guaranteeing that they do not cause electricalinterference to neighboring equipment.

RAIN SENSORSHepworth has developed a rainsensor specifically for rail applicationsand in particular the increasedrequirement for driverless trains.

WATER PUMPS ANDWASHER EQUIPMENTA complete range of electric waterpumps to meet any voltagerequirement are available for single ormultiple outlets and operate at low temperatures. Washer tanks are custom built to suit each application, dependant on capacity and space envelope specification.

The lifecycle defines six phases through which all projects progress, from Initial Enquiry to Project Review.

The six phases are defined into two groups which are linked through a process of stage-gate review.

Phases E and F are Hepworth Rail’s Production Run and Project Review and are therefore susceptible to the greatest riskfor both the customer and Hepworth Rail.

Project milestones have been clearly defined such as start-up, design freeze, production review, FAI, First Fit etc and areconstantly reviewed on all projects to ensure compliance is met.
