•Assignment 1 the basics. We had to make a blog post on the practical and aesthetic reasons for using multi camera format in different genres such as sport, concert, game shows etc.•The next assignment I did was job roles. In this we had to define what each job does in a studio.•After that we had to write up a treatment for a magazine show that we had created, which would then be discussed in class and as a class we would pick whole idea we would use for the main task.•We then started doing our weekly reflections. In this we jus wrote what we had done in the week and how we done it. And what we was going to do the week after.•I then started to do my tasks for my job role which was floor manager the first job I did was a risk assessment of the studio.•My next task was to make floor plans for the studio and gallery so everyone knew how things would have looked on the day.•My final task for my job was to make call sheet which ha everyone's contact details on it .•I then had to make a blog post on preparations I had made for the set which was props that I had arranged to get for the set.•I then did a props list because one of my colleagues wasn’t in so I did her task for her.•I then did my final reflection for the live day which was just a couple of answered questions for what happened on the day.

What we did for unit 23

The brief said that we had to research, plan, pitch and take part in the production of a multi camera format music magazine show aimed at 14-20 year old mainstream British audience. We had to in the show reviews, interviews and audience interaction.

I Think that we met the brief well because when we planned the show we made sure every thing met the brief before hand and also appealed to the target audience. We also had everything that needed to be in the show for example it said we had to have reviews, interviews and audience interaction and we had all of that and made it appeal to the audience. We had three interviews with different people, we had reviews on music and singers via the rate and slate wall and we also had audience interactions by having people texting and tweeting questions. On top of all of that we used a multi camera format.

The brief

How well the production team functioned?

Overall throughout pre production and production I think the team worked really well together. For pre production everyone had three tasks they had to carry out for planning. Everyone got their tasks done individually but some people didn’t for example because Sukhi and Amrit were camera operators they did their tasks together and also Alysia the set designer was not in for a couple days because of exams so she fell behind so as a team me and the director planned what the set would look like on the day. I then did one of her tasks which was to do a props list and organized to get the props. That is how the team worked well together in pre production. During production we also had to rely on a lot of team work and communication especially in my job role. I was floor manager there for I had to communicate and give the directors instructions from the gallery to everyone in the studio. I thought me and the director communicated very well because everything went smoothly and everyone got the instructions they needed and they knew what they had to do. Also I had to work well with the crew members and guests during production because I had to help a camera operator move a track and I had to make signs and show them during the live show to the guests and presenters so they knew what to do.

Job role the floor manager makes sure that all the equipment is safe. They also give instructions to all the crew and the presenters. they have to be really quiet so no background sound is caught on the footage. They are the directors assistant as they do the directors roles on the studio floor. They also have to work closely with the director because they communicate with each other and the director gives instructions from the gallery to the floor manager who gives instructions to everyone in the studio. They have to make sure the set and equipment is safe to work with and also have everyone's contact details incase of emergency or if they just need to contact a crew member. And they must have good teamwork, listening and conversational skills.

I think I met these expectations very well and with a professional standard. What I think I done well is:

1. I think I communicated with the director real well. I told the director everything that was going on in the studio and I told him when everyone was ready to film. He gave me instructions and I responded by doing them ant telling him whether it was do able at the time or not. And we communicated very well considering we was using a headset to do so.

2. I think I gave instructions to the hole crew and the studio very well. I told them if they needed to move or change body position, I told them where to look, I told them timings and I gave them cues for when the VT where finishing and I had to do all of this silently.

3. Finally I think I done well assessing possible risks on the set and thinking of ways to overcome this. I used these thoughts to stop potential hazards from happening and thankfully nothing bad did happen. For example to prevent people from tripping over I taped the wires to the floor. I showed all these risks and ways to overcome this by making a risk assessment.

What improvement could I have made to my contribution?

Although I worked well I think I could make some improvements to the contribution I made on the production on the live day.

1. I feel that I could of done better grabbing peoples attention in the studio. There was a lot of noise being made during VT’s and moments before the filming so it was quite hard trying to give people instructions because I could not get their attention.

2. I would make signs that I made my self more visible and easy to read. I made some sign on the day before we started filming and the writing was messy because it was scribbled with a felt tip.

3. Finally I would improve handling the wires. On the day on the live show I had to hold a long role of wire and it kept making noise when it was falling on the floor and also it kept getting tangled. If was to do this again I would find a solution to handle the wire better.

Difficulties I had during production and how I overcame them

During production I faced some difficulties.

1. firstly it was very hot in the studio because of the studio lights and the duct that there was a lot of people in one little space.

2. Another difficulty I faced is that the wires were getting twisted, tangled and easy to trip over so it got hard to work.

3. Another difficulty I faced was trying to get the presenters attention when the live filming was happening. It was hard because they were so engaged in doing their jobs hat they wouldn’t look at me.

I overcame these difficulties by:

1. I overcame the heat problem by wearing shorts and a thin t-shirt during production so I didn’t feel very hot

2. I Over came the wire problem by untangling all the wires before we started filming and taping them to the floor so that they stayed straight and no one would trip over them.

3. Finally to grab the presenters attention I waved my cards about behind the cameras so that they could see I was trying to get their attention and I would write on a piece of paper what I wanted to tell them so this is how I overcame that problem.

Skills I have gained

1. I feel that my listening skills have improved because I had to listen to the directors instructions carefully through a headset with back ground noise and I done that very well and understood everything he said.

2. Also my speaking and communicational skills have improved because I had to tell everyone in the studio the instructions that the director was passing on and they all knew what I was saying and took it in.

3. I feel my organizational skills have gotten a lot better. This is because I had to organize with different teachers about getting props and I had to keep going back and reminding them and organizing when I could collect them and when I would need to return them.

4. I have improved working under pressure because during he lived filming after each run through I felt more and more confident about it and when it came to the final filming I wasn’t scared or doubting anything and i was positive everything was going to go well.

5. Finally my team working skills have improved a lot because most of the things we did in production and a little bit in pre production relied on good team work. For example in pre production the set designer wasn’t in so me and the director had to work together and help get her tasks done and also in production I had to help one of the camera operators move the track during the live filming.

Practical and aesthetic reasons for using multi camera format in the final production.

Practical reasons: the practical reasons for using multi camera format for our final production are that if there is more then one camera filming you can catch all the action from different and possibly better angles so that the director can choose which camera is better to use and we can use it. Another reason is that the set was quite wide because here was a rate n slate wall away from the main set so we needed more then one camera to cover the whole set and make sure we could film everything. And finally we used it so that we could have one camera for the guests another for the presenters and one for the whole set this would mean we needed more then one camera also this set up is good for a TV show because it emphasizes on the speaker more.

Aesthetic reasons: one reason or using multi camera format in our final production is that I looks creative and will maintain viewer interest. This is because the viewer will get bored of watching a whole show through one static camera and also is more eye catching when the camera angle and shot keeps changing. Secondly changing the camera to the speaker every time a different speaker is talking looks better and it will help the viewer understand who is talking. Rather than having one camera on a group of guests because that will be hard to make out who is talking. And finally it allows other cameras to change shots and angles because when one camera is being used another camera can reframe or change the shot or angle to a better shot or angle which will make the footage look even better.
