12th May 2016 - Week 2 Term 2 Friday Lunch Pinwheels $3 Ice-cream Slice $2 Thanks to Janet and Kellie for making this weeks lunch. It was great to see the winter sports start last Saturday. The children were really excited about their first games for the season and for some it was their first taste of team sports. Some also had their first games of Rippa for the school on Tuesday and it was great to hear from parents of how excited the children were to be selected. Fair play is to be encouraged from players, coaches and parents. I spotted this Fair Play list and thought it was worth sharing. We will be sharing it with the children and I think it is worth going over it with your own children. I always do my best at sport. I play by the rules and try to make sure it is fun and fair for myself and those I am playing with. When I win I feel proud of what I have achieved, thank my opponent for playing and always remember that they wanted to win too. When I lose I congratulate my opponent – they did their best and deserve to enjoy winning. When I draw I know that I have had a close game and that both teams will be trying twice as hard next time. As a team player I have responsibility to my team mates, to help them do their best and make sure that sport is enjoyable for them too. I am always grateful to the referees and umpires because without them we wouldn’t have a game! They don’t always get everything right, but neither do I, and they should be respected for the time they are giving. I remember to thank my coach who has given up their time to help my team to do the best that we can. A great way to thank them is to LISTEN to them and try to come to all practices! For parents it is important to be good supporters and encourage other parents to do the same. From my many years of being at Motupipi I have been really appreciative of the amazing support our children receive from parents in encouraging their children into sport, turning up for games to support the children and for the positive way they conduct themselves on the sideline. New Motupipi Board of Trustees Nominations for the Board of Trustees closed last Thursday 5 May and as we had five nominations they were duly elected onto the Board. Wendy Webster has been elected as the Staff Representative. Andy Williams who was our Chairperson this year, stood down as his children have all now moved onto the High School. Andy will stand for the High School Board of Trustees in their upcoming election and we wish him all the best. Once again we have a great group of people charged with the running of our school. They all have a passion for education and wanting to make a difference for their own and other children. Over the next few weeks we will profile our Board members. Rippa Rugby

Motupipi team1 managed to win the Golden Bay Rippa Rugby tournament held at Takaka Primary on Tuesday where they went through undefeated. Our number 2 team made up of Yr 3-6 players won 3 of their 4 pool games, which set up a Motupipi 1 versus Motupipi 2 semi final with Motupipi 1 winning 7 tries to 4. Motupipi 1 took on Collingwood in the final in which they comfortably won. Players of the day received a Makos rugby ball with Emma and Teru being the worthy recipients. We were proud of the way both teams conducted themselves and for the determination they showed. Motupipi 1 earned the rights to represent Golden Bay in the regional finals in Nelson on the 21 June. We were lucky to be so well supported by parents and grandparents who gave the children lots of positive support. Team 1- Riley O (C), Xavier, Charlie, Jack H, Lief, Jay, Joe, Emma, Kate, Phoebe Team 2 -Hugo (C), Teru, Riley W, Kiyo, Jax, Kahu, Archie, Iris, Gypsy, Caitlin A I got to see my friends from the other schools. I got two tries because Riley passed me the ball to me quickly. Gypsy Our team went better than I expected. We passed quite good and everyone ripped really well. Grandma watched all my games and she was proud of me. Riley W Our first game was the easiest and we won. We were quite a fast team and we scored lots of tries, I got two of them. Archie I got loads of tries because our team passed the ball well and the other teams left big holes to run into. I was surprised that we won the tournament and get to go to finals in Nelson. Joe

for the Takaka rugby team last week.

Assembly

Assembly will be held next week. Unfortunately the

Motupipi Hall was set up for this weekends Soup Luncheon,

which meant postponement of this weeks assembly.

Netball Season Begins….. Motupipi had a great game on Saturday out at Collingwood, winning against Takaka Primary 4-1. All the girls played brilliantly and had an awesome time. Player of the day was Phoebe for her excellent defensive skills. Well done Phoebe! Team members were Emma, Caitlin A, Emily C, Emily H, Iyla, Aliana, Maren, Hollie, Gypsy and Elisa.

As we have had extra players wishing to join we have made two teams meaning that the girls will get close to full games each week - with the possibility of even two games.

This weeks game is at 9.45am at GBHS courts, and the two Motupipi teams will play each other. Please be there around 9.15am.

I played goal attack, which is my favourite position because you have more room to run. I scored one goal. I also played goal shoot. Caitlin A

I got two goals at goal shoot. Holley passed the ball really well to me. Caitlin had to mark a really skillful girl. Emma

Hi ladies and gents, We have 100 or so reusable Motupipi School Shopping bags left from last years fundraiser. They are all already paid for so all monies raised will be direct profit. We have a stall booked for this Saturday 14th and next Saturday 21st from 10am-4pm. If would be great if we could break it into 2 hour shifts. If you would be keen and available to help please let me know. Or if you know of someone else that may be keen to assist please pass onto them too.

We need to top up the fundraising bank account after a huge investment in the latest technology and this seems like a good start. Please reply to this email [email protected] or give me a call on 0275 606 815 Thanks! Kate

MY MOUNT OWEN TRAMP

In the holidays I went up Mount Owen. I was higher than the clouds. You need a car to get to Mount Owen. There’s lots of bumps on the ground road. Some of them, the fords, have water in them. Then you have to stay a night at the camp at the carpark. The next day you need to get ready to tramp up Mount Owen. First you need to go across a bridge then you need to follow the track. There are two ways to go. A long way or a short way. We went up the long way and came down the short way. It was the longest tramp I’ve done.

Room One Waka

Come have a look at the fleet of Room 1 waka! The waka represent our table groups. We made them out of cardboard, tape and paint. Each waka is a different colour. One of the reasons that we made them is to help us work as a team. By Charlie
