Lacrosse Grows Leadership
On November 17, directors and students from
the Harlem Lacrosse and Leadership (HLL)
youth organization held a clinic at Ridgewood
High School. The day’s events included physical
fitness, skill, and leadership activities.
The RHS Lacrosse team worked with the sixty
boys of the HLL to teach them leadership skills
and social responsibility through lacrosse. The
Ridgewood players all agree that they got as
much out of the day as their young students.

Blood Drive for a Good Cause
In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, hospitals and
blood services across New Jersey have been
running in low supply of blood. On November
29, the National Honor Society sponsored their
annual Fall Blood Drive.
The event was held outside of the fitness cen-
ter, and thanks to all students and faculty
members that donated, seventy-two pints of
blood were collected to help boost the blood
supply of local area hospitals.

Chris McCullough has worked at Ridge-wood High School since 2000. An RHS alumnus, he graduated from the high school in 1993, before receiving his Bach-elors of Industrial Design in Visual and Performing Arts from Syracuse University (NY). Along with his Masters of the Arts in Education, from Fairleigh Dickinson University (NJ), McCullough is currently the Supervisor of Fine and Applied Arts for Ridgewood High School.
One of your Favorite Memories of your time at RHS:
Twice, while hiking with the ALPS club down Mt. Marcy, in New York State, we found ourselves trapped in the pouring, pouring rain. The first time it happened I was a student, back in 1991. the second time, in 2008, I was a teacher.
What Advice Would you Give Every Student:
Right now, you are very fortunate and you probably do not even realize it. You are a student, and each day your job is to learn about a broad range of things. Soon, when you are out in the workforce, your days will be filled with completing a rather specific set of tasks and taking care of life’s business such as paying rent, mortgage, bills, etc... Take advantage of this opportunity to experience the topics, classes, and teachers that you find interesting. Time is a precious commodity, and right now you have the opportunity to spend it learning. You may not always have such a luxury in the not so distant future!
Something You Don’t Know About Me:
This past August, my wife (Mrs. McCullough) and I welcomed our first baby into our world. Carter Brien McCullough. He is just learning how to laugh, and hearing/watching him giggle is one of the best parts of my day.
RPS POLICY CORNER: Period 9
Period 9 (2:58 pm.to 3:15 pm) is a part of the school day. Students
who have been assigned a period 9 responsibility by a teacher must
honor it. Failure to do so will result in a 7:15 am detention being as-
signed to the student; the Period 9 must still be made up. If two or
more teachers request a Period 9 on the same day, the first request
must be honored and the others rescheduled. The teacher with
whom the student serves the Period 9 will give the student a note to
present to other teachers. The student must request this note.
Faculty Highlight: Christopher McCullough
On Wednesday, December 5, while students slept in, teach-
ers joined group discussions to talk about important issues
affecting their students. Pictured, teachers address the is-
sues of the day with an interdisciplinary outlook.

Hat’s Off to the Cook Off
On Thursday, December 6,
Ernestina Gagliano’s foods
classes held the 2012 Ridge-
wood High School Chili Cook-
Off. Students used their own
special recipes to create a
bowl of chili that was then
judged by teachers and fac-
ulty during the lunch period.
Chili was judged based on
different criteria such as aro-
ma, consistency, and taste.
First place was taken by An-
drea Crowell, grade 11; 2nd Place was awarded to Emma
Buchko-Wright, grade 9; and 3rd Place went to a team of stu-
dents consisting of Erin Walicki, Katherine Johnston, and one
other, all grade 9.
