Location—Durham is situated in the geographi-cal center of North Carolina, a few miles north of the center of population of the state. Its ter-rain is slightly rolling and well drained..
All roads lead to Durham, North Carolina, be-cause it is the home of:
The North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company, The Bankers Fire Insurance Company, The Mechanics & Farmers Bank, The North Carolina College for Negroes, Durham Colored Library, The Carolina Times, The Union Insur-ance & Realty Company, Mutual Insurance Com-pany, The Biltmore Hotel, Garrett's Biltmore Drug Store, Bull City Drug Store, Hayti Drug Store, and the Mutual Building & Loan Associa-tion.
Churches—Eighty-six, representing 12 denom-inations. Value of property, $2,681,832.00.
Industry—Chief industry of city, manufactur-ing. Eighty-eight manufacturing establishments, employing 13,350, and paying wages of $13,000,-000 annually. Value of products, $160,336,003. Principal manufactured products: cigarettes, smoking tobacco, hosiery, sheets and pillow cases, ginghams, flour and proprietary medicine. The large tobacco industries here manufacture such well known brands as Duke's Mixture, Bull Dur-ham Smoking Tobacco, and a great many brands of cigarettes, including the famous Chesterfield and Lucky Strike, and fifteen brands of Turkish cigarettes. Durham manufactures twenty-four per cent of all the cigarettes made in the LTnited States.
Hospitals—Four with total of eight hundred and twenty beds. Lincoln Hospital (public, col-ored), Watts Hospital (public, white) , Duke Uni-versity Hospital, McPherson Hospital (private— eye, ear. nose and throat) .
Education—North Carolina College for Ne-groes, Duke University, Southern Conservatory of Music, Croft Secretarial School, Durham Col-lege of Commerce, Kennedy's Commercial School.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Fif ty years have been spent in building the old-
est and one of the most scientific Negro Medical
Organizations in the world. The destiny of the
Old North State Medical. Dental and Pharmaceu-
tical Society cannot be limited. It shall ever strive
to enlarge men's vision, to deepen their insight,
to broaden their experience, to purify and enrich
their lives. It must keep step with the tide and
progress in the allied branches of medicine, roll-
ing onward and upward acquiring greater mo-
mentum as its surges beat forward.
