fA0I TWIf 1 THE SARATOOJAN, SARATOGA SPRINGS. N. Y.. WEDNESDAY. JULY 5. 1933. GERMAN FORTUNES WW ENTIRELY IN HANDS OF HITLER Nan* Force Dissolution All the Opposing CENTRISTS TO QUIT "Revolution" Near. Close With Downfall Of All Oppo- sition. BERLIN, July 5. (AP)—The di- rect path Chancellor Hitter"* Nazis have taken to the complete control of Germany led today—exactly four months after the "vindication" in the reichstag elections—to the dissolution of the last non-Nazi po- litical party. The Bavarian Peoples Party, sixth in importance of the 14 group* in parliament before the March 5 elections, voluntarily quit the polit- ical scene yesterday. Dissolution of the Centrists, who with the Populists, also a Catholic party, held 88 of the 584 seats in the pre-Hitler parliament, today was considered a matter of hours. Consequently the death, dissolu- tion, or merger of all the others left the Hitlerites alone on the stage, free to continue without or- ganized opposition their "national revolution of Germany" which be- gan Jan. 30 with Hitler's appoint- ment as chancellor and which has since entered German industrial, religious, educational, and gricul- tural life. This "revolution" has been I called the most sweeping change in Europe since Benito Mussolini's march on Rome and Lenin's seiz- ure of powec in Russia. Semi-offlcially it was announced negotiations between the Centrists under former Chancellor Heinrich Bruening and the Nazis had been closed, with the Centrists' reichstag members becoming "guests" of "hospitants" of the Hitlerites. Bruening himself, one source said, would not become a Nazi, but Count Eugen QuadMsny, who was empowered to act for the Bavar- ian Populists, applied for admission to the Nazi party as a hospitant, and advised his colleagues to do the same. The onec-powerful People's party of the late Chancellor Gustav Stresemann announced its dissolu- tion, following the course taken by the Nationalists, one time Nazi allies, the Socialists, and other group*. In the religious field, the strug- gle against Nazi domination con- tinued today, with the new Protest- ant reichs bishop, Frieikifth Von Bodelschwingh, and his followers demanding three points of Ludwig Mueller, Nazi head of the German evangelical church union. They are; Return of suspended church press, and the use of broad- cast* permitted non-Nazis a* well a* Hitlerite*. SQUASHYILLE Mr. and Mr*. Harry J. WORK A VERY UNUSUAL SQUEEZE When a Declarer can take ten or eleven tricks by routine play, it is probable that a squeeze will produce an extra trick. Frequent- ly the squeeze does not work if played in the ordinary manner but is easy if it can be postponed one trick; so that play has come to be known as the hidden or the delayed squeeze. Money to Loan—Secured by Small Mortgages 12 ARCADE PHONE 353 Help Wanted'—Female 35 1:30 p. m.-WGY Farm program. ot the provisions of this Ordinance South was the Declarer playing a contract ot six No Trumps which would be reached easily under any bidding system. West's opening lead was the Jack of Spades and Declarer, counting his tricks, could see that he was sure of three Spades (the six adverse Spades were not apt to be divided 3-3; so South's fourth Spade could not be rated as a probable thirteener), two Hearts, two Diamonds and four Clubs—which left him a trick short of his contract. However, if West held four Spades and the Queen and Jack of Diamonds, a squeeze would develop. It was not probable that West held both Of the adverse Diamond honors, but unless he did Declarer's chance was nil. Declarer won the first Spade with the Ace and followed by tak- ing four Club tricks, South win- ning th% last. On the fourth Club West discarded a Spade which in- dicated that he had held five ori- ginally. Declarer next led the Queen of Hearts from South and when West covered with the King, could have won - with dummy's Ace. That, however would not have accomplished his purpose. He needed three Heart leads, not two, in order to squeeze West if ha held the Queen and Jack of Diamonds; and of course the De- clarer must keep control of the suit Consequently, West's King was permited to win. West led the Tea of Spades which was taken with South's Queen and followed by the lead of the Jack of Hearts. After that a small Spade was tod, won by North's King and the Acs of Hearts cash- si. This produced a perfect squeeze. If West discarded a Spade. South would take an extra Spade trick. If he discard- ad a Diamond, It would give De- clarer three Diamond tricks. Of course, if East had held s high Diamond, the squeeze would not have developed* but in that case it would have been impossible for Declarer to make his contract. The squeeze in this hand is most unusual besause it Is made with Declarer s short suit. iOswrright, John F. Dillt Cs.) 6:00—Viennese Ensemble. 6:28—Baseball scores. 6:30—John B. BERLIN, July 5. (AP)—The direct path Chancellor Hitter"* Nazis have taken to the complete control of Germany led today—exactly four months after the "vindication" in the reichstag elections—to the dissolution of the last non-Nazi political party.

The Bavarian Peoples Party, sixth in importance of the 14 group* in parliament before the March 5 elections, voluntarily quit the political scene yesterday.

Dissolution of the Centrists, who with the Populists, also a Catholic party, held 88 of the 584 seats in the pre-Hitler parliament, today was considered a matter of hours.

Consequently the death, dissolution, or merger of all the others left the Hitlerites alone on the stage, free to continue without organized opposition their "national revolution of Germany" which began Jan. 30 with Hitler's appointment as chancellor and which has since entered German industrial, religious, educational, and gricul-tural life.

This "revolution" has been I called the most sweeping change in Europe since Benito Mussolini's march on Rome and Lenin's seizure of powec in Russia.

Semi-offlcially it was announced negotiations between the Centrists under former Chancellor Heinrich Bruening and the Nazis had been closed, with the Centrists' reichstag members becoming "guests" of "hospitants" of the Hitlerites.

Bruening himself, one source said, would not become a Nazi, but Count Eugen QuadMsny, who was empowered to act for the Bavarian Populists, applied for admission to the Nazi party as a hospitant, and advised his colleagues to do the same.

The onec-powerful People's party of the late Chancellor Gustav Stresemann announced its dissolution, following the course taken by the Nationalists, one time Nazi allies, the Socialists, and other group*.

In the religious field, the struggle against Nazi domination continued today, with the new Protestant reichs bishop, Frieikifth Von Bodelschwingh, and his followers demanding three points of Ludwig

Mueller, Nazi head of the German evangelical church union.

They are; Return of suspended church press, and the use of broadcast* permitted non-Nazis a* well a* Hitlerite*.

A VERY UNUSUAL SQUEEZE When a Declarer can take ten

or eleven tricks by routine play, it is probable that a squeeze wil l produce an extra trick. Frequently the squeeze does not work if played in the ordinary manner but is easy if it can be postponed one trick; so that play has come to be known as the hidden or the delayed squeeze. The hand given below is an excellent illustration of this situation.

South was the Declarer playing a contract ot six No Trumps which would be reached easily under any bidding system.

Declarer won the first Spade with the Ace and followed by taking four Club tricks, South winning th% last. On the fourth Club West discarded a Spade which indicated that he had held five originally. Declarer next led the Queen of Hearts from South and when West covered with the King, could have won - with dummy's Ace. That, however would not have accomplished his purpose. He needed three Heart leads, not two, in order to squeeze West if ha held the Queen and Jack of Diamonds; and of course the Declarer must keep control of the su i t Consequently, West's King was permited to win. West led the Tea of Spades which was taken with South's Queen and followed by the lead of the Jack of Hearts. After that a small Spade w a s tod, won by North's King and the Acs of Hearts cash-s i . This produced a perfect squeeze. If West discarded a Spade. South would take an extra Spade trick. If he discard-ad a Diamond, It would give Declarer three Diamond tricks. Of course, if E a s t had held s high Diamond, the squeeze would not have developed* but in that case it would have been impossible for Declarer to make his contract. The squeeze in this hand is most unusual besause it Is made with Declarer s short suit.
