Bellini I hope you enjoyed October as much as we did here at Monsignor Doyle. As seems par for the course, October was a busy month here on campus. To start off the month, Lauren Fulop and her Leadership class organized the Toonies for Terry event that saw students do- nate money and walk laps around our school’s track to commemorate Terry Fox’s journey to raise awareness for Cancer research. Thanks Lauren and to your leadership students for organizing a great event and raising monies for a great cause. The evening of October 10 th , the school held its annual Awards of Excellence ceremo- ny in our cafeteria. The ceremony recognizes students with the highest marks in their par- ticular class as well as we recognize winners student contests, Catholic Education Founda- tion of Ontario award winner and perfect attendance winners. It was a great evening which celebrated excellence in our school. Thank you to Kim Myers, Tania Rosario, Cresh Mar- schall, Julie Sommerville, and the student helpers for organizing a great evening! October was also the first month of the school year for our School Council to meet. Thanks to all the parents, staff and the co-presidents that attended the meeting that saw great dialogue and direction setting for the remainder of the school year. Again this year, Monsignor Doyle hosted a group of Holocaust survivors from the To- ronto area where they shared their stories with our students and hope for a better future. Thank you to Anne Denomme, Program Head of Religious Studies, for organizing this very important talk. On October 28 th , I attended the Father Patrick Fogarty Awards Dinner at the Toronto Airport Marriott Hotel which honoured this year’s Catholic Education Foundation of Ontario award winner Kate Jamieson. It was wonder evening that saw 167 award winners from all across Ontario accept their award. Congratulations Kate. You truly are a Catholic leader and are well deserving of this award. Just a quick ‘shout out’ to Alex Hankins who qualified for OFSAA in the Midget Girls cate- gory in Cross-Country. Alex finished second at CWOSSA last week which allowed her the birth to the Provincial championships in Pembroke. Good Luck Alex. I know you will make us proud! A perennial at Doyle is our Halloween Haunt. This year, the SAC kids, under the direc- tion of SAC Director Breeann Hureau, created two haunted houses and one escape room created and managed by our very own Mike Kearns. It was a great night of fun and screams. Thanks to all who participated and help run the event. We raised $585 which will be donat- ed to the Halloween for Hunger. And speaking of Halloween for Hunger, thanks to our So- cial Justice Club who were out canvassing our community, on Halloween night, for dona tions towards our Halloween for Hunger campaign. Great work kids! Staying with the Halloween theme, congratulations to Mike Kearns, Diana Knoll, their cast and crew for a wonderful run of Doyle’s Scary Tales. It was an awesome produc tion of several scary plays that kept us at the edge of our seats! Great work everyone. Finally, on behalf of Patrick Eby, Lisa Mackay myself, we want to wish you a wonderful upcoming month. The next time we publish, we will be starting the sea- son of Advent! As always, our doors are always open should you need to speak with us about your child. Sincerely, Lou Bellini

Chaplain’s Corner by J. Goncz

Catholic Leadership Youth Forum 201 Monsignor Doyle students Miguel Tarazona, Rebecca Gunnarson, Kate Jamieson, Daniel Jafari, Meghan O’Rourke, Danielle Comini and Austin Moreira participated in the sixth Catholic Leadership Youth Forum in Toronto on Thursday, October 27th. This year’s Youth Forum gathered1500 Ontario Catholic Secondary School leaders for a day to be energized, hear noted speakers, participate in liturgy, and interact with peers from around the province.

The Youth Forum keynote was the dynamic CHRIS BRAY (worship leader, singer, and songwriter). Our students also had the opportunity to hear from Spencer West (WE) and many others. It was a fantastic day. Way to go team!!! NOVEMBER...THE MONTH OF THE HOLY SOULS

Our Catholic Faith teaches us to cherish the memory of our loved ones that have died. It urges us to commune in prayer, especially at Mass, with the souls of those we loved that have gone before us. We are continually reminded that “life is changed, not ended. During the month of November we have a Book of Life set up in the school chapel. The book is for students and staff to write the names of those to be remembered and included in our prayer intentions during our morning prayer.

Thanksgiving Food Drive

Thank you everyone who contributed to our Thanksgiving Food Drive.

We collected a total of 409 items to help stock the St. Vincent De Paul food

cupboard.

We recognize an outstanding group of first period classes that took on the

challenge of collecting the most items. Team 3—made up of Rooms 6, 8, 11,

84, 85, and 86—is our winner of the collection challenge. Congratulations,

Team 3!

Multicultural Day

As part of our Anti-bullying week activities this year, we will be

hosting a Multicultural Day at the lunch hour(11:10-11:58) on

Wednesday, November 22nd. It will be a time to celebrate diver-

sity in our school and in our community. Tables will be set up in

the hallway in front of the library to display and share about a

culture. We had a great display last year, with food, music , crafts

and costumes. Students, staff and the community were represent-

ed in a great show of diversity. We are looking forward to anoth-

er great event this year!

Please contact [email protected] or [email protected] if you have any

question or wish to participate or contribute in any capacity.

Student Activities Just last week, Monsignor Doyle held its sixth annual Doyle Haunt. Students, staff and community members came to support this event, by bracing themselves for the hor-rors of two spooktacular haunted houses: Down the Rabbit Hole and 64 Pinepoint. The awesome production, creation of effects, and staging could not have been possible without the hardworking and dedicated planners, volunteers, and artists. Way to go team! To celebrate the Halloween season by giving back to those in need, the Social Justice Club will be facilitating Trick or Eat. This is a community initiative that aims to collect non-perishable food items for local organizations. The night of Halloween, many of our students will spend their evening going door-to-door, reaching out for donations. Donations can be dropped off at the school the night of, as well as the days following Halloween. Coming up this November, students will cozy up at Coffee House, where Doyle will display its best talents. Complete with warm drinks and yummy snacks, this year's fall coffee house is not one to miss. Auditions are coming up soon, and all talents are wel-come!

Oktoberfest Fun! by S. Cook

On Thursday October 12th, the Community Living and Active students had the oppor-tunity to attend the Bingeman’s celebration of Oktoberfest. We enjoyed a lunch and dance. Our lunch included: salad, cooked carrots, sauerkraut, schnitzel and Oktober-fest sausage. We danced the Chicken Dance! Overall, we had a spectacular time!

HEART Club by J. Johnson

Heart Club has started out the school year with a couple of activities to introduce our-

selves to our new Mustangs. On October 11 we welcomed everyone to school with rain-

bow gum; and at lunchtime that day Heart Club hosted Washington Silk from OK2BME,

who spoke to students about community resources available for LGBTQ youth. On Oc-

tober 19, we invited students and staff to sign hearts and agree to our pledge to make

this community a safe and welcoming place

for all, regardless of their gender expression

or sexual orientation. Hundreds of hearts

were signed – watch the library windows for

the display we will be making with them!

Coming soon:

Heart Club will be ordering spirit wear t-shirts, so

watch for those on School Cash Online.

Jr. Boys Soccer by B. Bizony

The Jr. Boys Team Soccer team had a one of their best results in recent memory this past sea-son. The soccer Mustangs came in second place in District 8, behind the always strong St. Mary's squad.

The team earned the right to play at CWOSSA this past Thursday in Guelph, and with their "never say die" work ethic, made it into the semi-finals on Friday, again against the St. Mary's team. Our injury riddled team fought St. Mary's on every play and every ball, giving the Eagles a scare by game’s end, only winning 2-1 over our Mustangs. The coaches of St Mary's team acknowledged this was the toughest game they played all season. The St. Mary's team won the CWOSSA final 6-2, therefore, making the Doyle Jr. Boys Soccer team the 3rd best team in Central Ontario for the 2017 season, bettering over 50 other schools, many of which have double the population of students to draw from to make their teams.

Coaches Rosario and Bizony are proud of the accomplishments of the team this year and hope to build on their success in the future. Congratulations gentleman on a outstanding season!!!

part-time position at Peak Perfor-mance Health Centre. She is very grateful, excited and looking for-ward to getting paid to do a job she enjoys.
