Dear esteemed parents,
We hope you and your family are safe and staying healthy in these unprecedented
times.
We are delighted to provide our first update for our 2020 activities from
January to April. On 2 January 2020, we kick-started Axcel International School
(“Axcel”) at our new premises to better serve our students while maintaining our
vision of providing high quality yet affordable education.
Our students began the school year with Inspark Week, our orientation
programme which aims to acclimatise students to their new learning culture and
environment. During Inspark Week, students participated in various activities
including team building games, treasure hunts and talent show performances
which aimed to foster stronger relationships and improve communication skills
amongst the students. Students were also briefed on the safety rules of the
school campus and science lab procedures. A fire drill was also carried out.

To nurture students holistically and as part of our mission, A.S.K Beyond
Academic Excellence, our Axcel Programme were incorporated into the 20-
minute homeroom period at the beginning of each day, from Mondays to
Thursdays. These weekly programmes include Inspiring Guru, DEAR (Drop
Everything And Read), Character First and Next Futurist.
Monday: Inspiring Guru, guides students to explore their 'Guru' i.e. good role
models. Students are required to research and learn about their role models,
understanding more about their successes as well as failures. The first quarter’s
theme for Inspiring Guru were celebrities, musicians, artists, chefs and sports
people.
Tuesday: The DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) programme is organised by our
English teachers with the goal of inculcating good reading habits amongst
students. During this weekly programme, students will be given time to read,
after which they will be tested on their comprehension levels.

Wednesday: The Character First programme is aligned with our belief that
attitude is the foundation to developing future leaders with good character.
Every quarter, one character is chosen for students not only to learn about, but
to demonstrate their understanding of the selected character through activities
and skits. Students are also recognised for practicing the chosen character trait.
Thursday: Next Futurist aims to develop students' ability to research and
present on a future technology, ultimately nurturing innovative minds for the
future. Students research on a wide range of future technologies, from
augmented reality to artificial intelligence; the future of education to healthcare;
and many others. This programme intends to prepare our students for the fourth
Industrial Revolution.
Student clubs are set up to broaden students’ horizons as well as develop
important life skills such as leadership, confidence and teamwork in order to
prepare them for the real world. Club activities offer students an opportunity to
interact with other students who share similar interests and also nurture
friendships outside of their academic circle.

Despite the Movement Control Order (“MCO”) confining students to their homes
for over a month, the school continues to conduct online classes, based on normal
school’s timetable, ensuring that lessons are carried out as planned for each
subject. Students also continue with their assignments. Our teachers are
committed towards ensuring that school continues beyond just the normal online
classes. We have successfully completed online exams, conducted virtual physical
education classes as well as carried on with our Axcel Programmes, such as a Tik
Tok competition, comic and memo creator, Zumba and Tabata exercises.

We are glad that Axcel is an approved Cambridge exam centre. Despite the
cancellation of the June 2020 IGCSE exam, our Year 11 students will be awarded
grades in accordance to Cambridge Assessment International Education’s
process. Our persistence in proceeding with the April exam online has also
assisted with the grading process.
We would like to thank our team of dedicated teachers and principals who have
worked hard and demonstrated creativity in ensuring that lessons continue during
the MCO period. We pledge to continue providing quality education despite living
in a world that has been upended by the COVID-19 pandemic. We are confident
that we will emerge stronger and even more resilient than before. Let us remain
united in weathering this storm. We will see sunshine again very soon.
Thank you very much for choosing Axcel International School – A.S.K Beyond
Academic Excellence
