Its seems like no time at all since the last quarterly Newslet-ter in April was sent out! Where does the time go?! I know one things for sure is that it has been non stop here. There is always a shoot taking place, or something keeping me busy. In with the start of wedding season, there has been a couple of get aways and even some new branding!

What have you been up-to? I hope the start of the summer has been treating you well, and I really hope that we get some more sunshine.

Sometimes you go to a place, and you fall in love. The second the warm air touches your skin and the wind blows around you,, it hap-pens fast. This has happened massively to be twice, once in Santa Monica and again in Ibiza. They say that not all who wonder are lost, and I believe it. Travel refreshes the senses and nourishes the soul, and of course throw in some sunshine, sea and sand - and who’s not happy!

Ibiza

Rising early and taking off with no plans set in stone. Picking a point on the map and driving to it. Stopping at desert-ed beaches and sipping wine with the sun on your face. Talking about the future and sharing dreams.

Idea.Take pictures of yourselves and don’t forget the details. Then when you get home create a Travel album. I do this each time we travel - it’s nice to be able to share the good times with friends - and remember all the mo-ments for yourselves.

What will your story be?

It’s quite a deep question I suppose. What will your story be? You could take it as the question of your life, or the legacy you want to leave behind. Or it can relate to the memories your creating and the moments your making.

As a wedding photographer this is what I am thinking/looking for/seeing when I am documenting - what is the story. What are the relationships, constantly looking for the organic love and happiness that is their within each couple, between them and their family and friends.

I’m a lover of moments and details. The exchange of eyes, the small squeeze of a hand - each small details creating a memories and helping to tell the story.

Whether you are using an expensive camera, a point and shoot or your phones - it doesn’t matter what it is - use it. Document and celebrate the everyday and the small things and keep telling your story.

ItalyLast month, which seems a lifetime ago, I went on a family (Jim’s family) holiday to Italy. We booked out a house near Todi for us all to stay, where me mainly ate, drank, laughed. Repeat.

Even though I am part Italian, from my Dads side, I have only been to Italy once before. I’m not fluent the language (yet) but love to attempt it. With my efforts of my language course at uni-versity this last year and my phrase book in hand I gave it a go pretty much every where we went. Just giving the language a go was quite good fun, even when I got it wrong.

We decided that when the weather was bad we would have days of indulgence. Basically days when we allowed our-selves to eat and drank whatever and when ever Its actual-ly quite fun!!

We also decided that days of indulgence were quite acceptable on sunny days too!! ;-)

A change of name. When I first started my business I needed a name. Of course I needed a name - every business does. I wanted something that related to me, so I opted for my middle name Margaurita. I felt that was unique enough to stand out, and ran with it. And it did. Establishing Margaurita Photography took off and took me from the beginning of my business to my current third wedding season.

Over the 6-9 months I’ve been realising that I have changed. Which, as an artist and a curator I believe it always should be. But, there is some-thing else that I want my business to be. I don’t want it to be another wedding photographer who vignettes every image and hides behind lo-cation tags and meta date. I want to be a person, the person who i stak-ing the pictures. In front of the lens and behind. And all the moments in between. As my style becomes cleaner and fresher, I want a website, blog and brand that represents that, and my clients.

Tips for travel photography or holidays.

It doesn’t matter what camera you take to travel. It can be a professional DSLR, a Polaroid, a film camera, a disposable, a point & shoot or your phone. Whatever it is- use it. Life is a beautiful thing - especially when you are traveling to a new place, or an old favorite. Moments can be fleeting and easily missed. Here are a few tips for what I consider to be useful when traveling. I am sure there are many others with a better insight, but this is just what I think.

1. Take your camera with you - wherever you go! A few time I have thought oh, I’ll leave it in the room I wont need it - and then to-tally wished I brought it. This happened in LA. We were going for a drinks at a rooftop terrace overlooking the ocean, and for some reason I just didn’t want to carry it. That night I missed my first Santa Monica Sunset...

2. Snap the details! Why should only the main events get all the action. I document everything - some say it OTT, me - I don’t care what people say - these are my memories. I like to remember the smallest of details, be-cause they make me remember the smallest of details.

3. Create an album! Why should it be just your wedding pictures that make the cut? I create books from every trip that we do. I leave them out on dis-play, and people always love to have a look through. And before anyone else I want to do it for me. By now you’ve realised I like moments and details, and the happiest ones I want to see time and time again. Life is too pretty to be kept on a file on the desktop of your computer. I use photobox (gasp!), yes I do. I create small books easily and quite cheaply as well. ** TIP - create your books on-line and wait until they have a sale and then purchase! **

4. Don’t be embarrassed. If I had only realised this one sooner. I used to feel embarrassed about taking certain pictures, because I thought that people wouldn’t get why I wanted to take a picture of a sign, or a drink, or a lemon. Or whatever it was that looked in-significant, But, back to point 3 - I shoot a lot thinking about my album in mind. I want to recreate the scenes i my book of where I have been. With all the details in tow. So, when you see what you like - document it. These are your eyes, seeing your memories.

5. Don’t forget about you! If your traveling with your love - them as well. Details are amazing - but moments together are priceless. Self timer or ask someone... either way - get the picture.
