The Regional Cheerleading competition was held at Wheel-ing Park High school on Nov. 5. The SMHS cheerleaders depart-ed at 11:00 for their competition. Members of the SMHS com-petition team include: Summer Bayless, Ashley Powell, Kelsey Butler, Audrey Giboney, Shelby Anderson and Shirley Snively. When the girls arrived, they went straight into the aux-iliary gym for warm up and safety check. Immediately after, the girls took the main competition floor for their al-lotted practice time. The SMHS cheerleaders were the last to compete in their lineup. Nine teams competed for the Region 1 Cheerleading title:

Madonna, Bishop Donahue, Ritchie County, Magnolia, Paden City, Wheeling Central, Cameron, Valley and St. Marys. The top two teams from the regional competition will com-pete in the state cheerleading competition on December 10. St. Marys placed ninth in the competition, due to miscommu-nication from the coach under-standing the rules of the compe-tition, resulting in the girls being disqualified for their dance rou-tine. Runner-up was Bishop Donahue, falling short behind first place, Wheeling Central. Cheerleaders have now been added to the squad for the up-coming basketball season. These members include: Savita PoThong, Summer Birkham-mer, and Mackenzie Heflin.

The Science Quiz Bowl team visited WVUP on Dec. 13 at 9:30 a.m. They fell out of the competition in the third round. The science quiz bowl team

practices on Mondays during lunch and LINKS. The members of the Science Quiz bowl team are; Cori Bills, Cooper Holmes, Ryan McFarland, Emily Meeks, Alice Nichols, Orv Taylor, Juan Timmons and Trace Tuttle.

After a 104-year-old dream of winning their first state championship game, we finally achieved what thought to be im-possible. The Blue Devils took victory over the East Hardy Cou-gars with a score of 23-8. The Blue Devils won the class ‘A’ ti-tle at Wheeling Island Stadium. When asked about what he had to say about finally win-ning, Coach Mote said “I thank God that we were able to win the first championship in football at St.Marys High School! We had a great group of athletes and a great group of coaches. I will forever remember this group for what they have done. There are so many things that have to happen for a championship to occur: great athletes, great coaches, have to stay healthy, ball has to bounce your way, etc. This championship was for all of those that have passed away. It also is for those that haven’t graduated from St.Marys High School, but have moved here

and committed themselves along with their families to the purple and gold. There really is noth-ing else that I can say other than the fact that I am thankful that I can be with these young men, coach with the awesome staff, and be surrounded by some of the greatest fans! This champi-onship was for All of us!” This victory was no small matter to Pleasants County either. Fire-trucks and police cars escorted the state champion through the city streets at approximately 1:30 a.m. After going through the streets, they departed at the Bill Hanlin Stadium, where hundreds of fans greeted them. The Blue Devils were truly captivated by all the support they got from their fans. They were determined to finally bring that championship title home after falling short a point in three overtimes against Wil-liamstown in 2014. The juniors and seniors were a part of the 2014 state runners up club. They were resolute to not let their fans down again. On the mat-

ter, senior Jacob Northrop said, “Even after the loss, they con-tinued to support us. It’s been a long time coming, but winning it this year was our way of giv-ing back to the fans in a way.” The championship game was a community celebration full of excitement and anticipa-tion. Even though it was an hour and a half drive to Wheeling Is-land, there was a sea of purple and gold in the stadiums. Not one time was there a silence in the crowd. They were re-warded with the most exciting game of Super Six Weekend. In the end, there was not one person at that game who didn’t have a full heart. We were all so proud of our football play-ers and coaches. We also can’t forget to give thanks to the people had everyone pumped for the game with all the signs that scattered St.Marys. Not only was it nice for the players to finally bring home the title of state champions, but it was also nice to let them know that the town loved and supported them.

Exams are finally over, and now it is time to wait. Christmas is just days away and the first semester of the 2016-2017 school year has come to a close. With Christmas so close, we are getting excited for the pres-ents and food that we will be receiving over Christ-mas break. The true meaning of Christmas has been lost through the stories and myths created about Christmas.

Christmas is a holiday with religious meaning behind it. Fo Christians, Christmas was created to celebrate the birth of Je-sus Christ. After there was no room at the inn his mother, Mary was taken to a barn. There she had baby Jesus and he was cra-dled in a manger surrounded by animals and the three kings.

This story has been lost by the stories of Santa and the elf on the shelf. It is cute for the younger kids, but it has made the meaning of Christmas disappear and seem nonexistent. People who do not believe in God or Je-sus still celebrate Christmas and give each other pres-ents. This is very similar to Easter because it is also reli-gious, but is still celebrated by those who don’t believe.

Even for those who are religious or believe in God, the meaning is slowly slipping away. The gift giv-ing and advertisements of stores have taken over the Christmas spirit. It has turned into a time to give and re-ceive gifts and not the celebration of the birth of Je-sus. Sermons are still held in celebration, but outside of church the true meaning of Christmas is dwindling.

Bring the true meaning of Christmas back to the holi-day season. Even thinking of the meaning is bringing the meaning back to the surface. Yes, getting presents is great, but we are getting them because of Jesus be-ing born not because mom and dad had extra money at the end of the year. During the holiday season take

Q: Picking a college has me super stressed. There’s so many options, like small vs. big school and in-state school vs. out-of-state. Do you have any advice?

A: I know your pain. My main advice to you is, don’t let that stress get you down. I know it’s hard, but putting pressure on yourself to decide will only make matters worse. As cheesy as it sounds, you really will know what campus feels right with you once you visit; at least I did. There are plenty of great schools in West Virginia, big and small, so the best thing you can do to narrow it down to what size college you like is by tour-ing. As for in-state vs. out-of-state schools decision, don’t limit yourself. Not saying that an out-of-state school is for you, there are plenty of good schools in West Virginia, but don’t let fear hold you back! The best thing you can do is tour as many campuses as you can, and don’t stress yourself out too much!

Q: I’m having a lot of problems with time management. I feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day for me to get everything done that I need to. Most nights I don’t go to bed until 1 am, and get-ting five hours of sleep every night is really getting to me. I feel like a walking zombie. Any help?

A: I struggle with this too. The thing that helps me the most is taking advantage of any free time in school to do my homework (ugh, I know). If you can get all of your homework done at school, in-stead of procrastinating until 10 at night, then it’ll give you a lot more time for after school activities and free-time. Another thing that helps me is putting my phone up. I can lie down and scroll through my phone for an hour at night without even realizing it. So, set a goal to turn off your phone at a certain time each night, or don’t lay down on your bed with your phone. Make your bed a place for sleeping, not for phone-time!

Q: My friends have been trying to get me to rub snuff like they do, and I finally tried it a week or so ago. I really didn’t want to, because I know it’s not healthy, but I didn’t want to seem weird by not doing it. I’m terrified of getting addicted, but I don’t want them to shut me out since I don’t want to rub again. What should I do?

A: This is tough. But honestly, you have to value your own health above your friends’ opinions of you. You know that rubbing snuff isn’t healthy, and the last thing you want is to get addicted to something that you never wanted to start doing in the first place. So, just tell your friends no. If they ask you why, be honest with them and tell them why you don’t want to rub. I know everyone says this, but if they’re truly your friends, they can overlook a difference as small as you not doing snuff. In fact, they should respect you for being bold enough to stand up for yourself and your health!

On the first Saturday of December, almost the entire town travelled to Wheeling Island Foot-ball stadium. As the game started, the jammed packed stands screamed and cheered for the Devils, who was competing in the state champi-onship. As the team went into the locker room after the first half, we were ahead of the first ranked East Hardy. The second half, more com-petitive due to penalties, had the crowd more into the game. With the final minutes winding down, the team and crowd knew for the first time in school history we were going to be football state champi-ons. Then, it happened, the football team of 2016 became state cham-pions. The town of St. Marys was so proud of the 2016 football team. I may be a little biased, but no team deserved this more than the St. Marys Blue Devils. With all the hard work, determination and dedication they made history. In 104 years of football and no state championship, until now, they achieved the im-possible. This isn’t something they have worked on just this season, but a goal they were determined to achieve all of their football careers.

It is a great accomplishment to be 14-0, and win a football state cham-pionship. So, CONGRATS boys! With the fall sports coming to a close we have winter sports to look forward to. With the girls basketball team normally being successful we are expecting it to be a great sea-son. Especially with most of the talent coming back, even having a few secret weapons. With many of the state champion football players, coming out for the boys basketball team they should also have a suc-cessful season They have a very good chance of making it to state for the first time in four years! Wishing the best of luck to both of the teams. Hopefully the town of St.Marys will have to travel down to Charleston to see both compete in the basketball state Tournament. Lastly, we have wrestling. Last year the team did pretty well. Hoping this year will even be more success-ful. With only one player qualifying for state last year we hope to have many more this eyar and maybe even a state champion to go on the wall. So GOOD LUCK to all of the players and hope you all have a good season!

Christmas break is right around the corner! It times for shopping, eating, family time, happiness and relaxing. This is the time of year that ever one is happy and very giving. Most people look at it as its just to eat and for presents, well true that basi-cally is it. Although you can’t forget the meaning of Christ-mas, the celebration of Christ which is the reason why peo-ple come together to eat and exchange gifts. By no means not all families believe in Christ or maybe celebrate it for a different reason, which is okay. Of course eating is a major part in Christmas. Multiple families get together and have big dinners. One of my favorite activities around Christmas are to go sleigh riding. There’s multiple ways to go sleigh riding, like get-ting pulled behind something on a sleigh, or using a big mat to go on, really any way you can think of. Somethings you can use as a sleigh are trash

can lid, garbage bags, mats, of course many different types of sleds, anything you prefer. How do you like to spend your Christmas break? Siting by the fire drinking hot chocolate or outside building snowmen. Either way is en-joyable because its CHRIST-MAS BREAK! The stressful part of Christmas is always shopping. There’s so many presents bought every year. How do you go about shop-ping for presents? The most popular shopping place in my opinion is for sure the mall, they have a variety from anywhere to kitchen ware to any type of clothing. Also, Walmart is a very popular place to shop, they actu-ally have anything you could want, need, dream! The ques-tion everyone gets around Christmas is what are you getting me for Christmas? So what do you get for peo-ple normally for Christmas? There is like makeup, tools, clothes, shoes, anything any-

one could want. The gift I al-ways fall back on for the guys are tools. For girls, I usually rely on make-up or make-up tools. A lot of my gifts for my immediate family or close friends I try to be crafty and make them something whether it has to do with decorations or even things like photo books, blankets anything really. Now into the receiving end of gifts. What’s your favorite gift fall under is it in makeup, cloth-ing, accessories, room decor, money? Mine would have to be clothing or room decor. Although I do like receiving gifts. I love the feeling when someone is opening your gift and you know they’ll love it. The best part is the Christ-mas tree, or trees. Personally, I have four Christmas trees in my house, they all have a dif-ferent theme. Our main one is Disney. What is Christmas without a Christmas tree?

Let’s say you had an idea in your head that wouldn’t go away. Let’s say that you couldn’t focus in class with that stuck in your head. What if…you wrote it down? What if it became something you were proud of? What if other people read it, and they liked it? What if you wanted to write stories…and had fun doing it? Whatever “what ifs” you have, don’t wait for in-spiration. If you can get start-ed on your own, and enjoy it, the ideas will flow with you. If you have an idea that could become a story, write it down. Or type it, either one. It’s best to keep your ideas flowing, and keep them available. If you have an idea for a novel about a fantasy

world or whatever else you can think of, write it down before you lose it! At the very least, you have it writ-ten down to look at or even expand on later. Who knows? Maybe you could become a well-known author someday. If you have an idea in your head, but can’t think of how to put it on a page, think of the characters in your idea. Try to make something around those characters - have them do something that has to do with the rest of your idea, and run with it. Keep the ideas and writing flowing. It should get easier as you go along creating the characters. If you flat-out can’t think of anything, try to base it off of other things you’ve seen.

Need fantasy-type creatures? Use existing animals as a frame of reference. Need space transportation? Base it off of existing ships. Need characters? Write who and what you know, but don’t literally take a friend and write them into your story – change names and height and similar physical traits. The most important thing, though, is to save every-thing. For example: You’ve typed up a short little story that looks like crap – save it. Pretty much everybody will start out writing crap, but that will get better in time – that’s the point. Save everything, from your first story to your greatest epic.

The trend with the IOS 10 update, including Game Pigeon, is hitting hard this time of year. If you haven’t checked it out, go download the latest version of IOS 10, which includes the new concept of playing games over iMessage. The new App Store integrated 13 games onto iMessage. These games include 8-Ball Pool, Sea Battle, Ana-grams, Knockout, Tanks, Check-ers, Poker, Four in a Row, Word Hunt, Dots and Boxes, Gomoku, 20 Questions and 9-Ball Pool. Game Pigeon incorporated-sall of our childhood-favorites into an easily accessible meth-od: iMessage. Now friends are able to play games through texting, which is by far easier than through another game app.

While you play you can write texts with friends, for a result that is satisfying. Game Pigeon can be purchased at no cost. Along with the convenience this app brings, it also brings more fun and competitive-ness to your life. You can now compete with your friends to be named the winner of 8-Ball Pool, or crowned the champion of Checkers. It is always healthy to incorporate a little bit of competition into the everyday aspects of your life! For me per-sonally, winning a simple round of 8-Ball Pool is a struggle. My friends practice and become good at the game, while I con-tinue to fall back and slack on my skill! This game gives every-one an opportunity to show off

your game skills that you have been holding back for so long! All in all, this update is head-ed on the right track for success. My verdict is that this game will continue to be success-ful until something bigger and better comes and replaces it! I think that the creators of Game Pigeon knew what they were doing when they invented the concept of playing a game over text messages. If you haven’t already, go and download the newest version of IOS 10 in or-der to have access to these many games. You’ll get hooked on these addicting, yet fun games. I promise, it won’t be a waste of your time!

Kylie Cosmetics is a world known cos-metics line by Kylie Jenner. She launched it in 2016 after her lip kits were very pop-ular with her fans. She also launched her cosmetics because it gives her a way to share all her beauty secrets. I really enjoy her cosmetics because not only are they cruelty free and vegan, they are very high quality. On amazon or eBay, you can get them for much cheaper than what is on Kylie’s website. They aren’t the real deal and the best way to describe it is the old saying “you get what you pay for”. The only problem I have with Kylie’s cosmetics is how the lip kits are so dry. At first they go on very smooth, but if you make a mistake it’s going to take a while

to fix it. It takes a while to fix it because it dries very fast and stays on very good when first applied. After hours of wearing it, it starts to flake from the inside out. Be-sides from flaking, it stays on very well. Another opinion on the lip kits is that when you want to take the lipsticks off it is so hard. This is a positive and a negative at the same time. You know it will stay on for a good bit but when you want to take it off it’s difficult which can be very an-noying. The eyeshadows and eyeliner are very high quality. They have excellent pigment and aren’t very sheer. They stay on all day but when you go to take it off, it comes off with no fuss. The eyeshadows also have little to no fall out on your face.

The copycat cosmetics don’t stay on as long as the real Kylie Cosmet-ics and are more sheer. The Kylie Cos-metics consist of Kyshadow, Kyliner, crème shadow, lip kit, single matte lip liners, single matte liquid lipstick, gloss and metal lipsticks. She just recently came out with a holiday collection. The holiday collection consists of the merry bundle, vixen bundle, holiday collection bundle, holiday box, full-size four-piece holiday kit, mini kit, lip kit ornaments, lip gloss ornaments, lip metal ornaments, crème shadows, holiday stocking, Kylie brush set, snow Kyliner kit and Kyshad-ow holiday palette. Everything for the holiday collection are limited time only.

There was a trend going on where you put a shot glass to your lips and suck for a long period of time. The blood would rush to your lips and make them really big, but they would bruise shortly after and bust the blood vessels in your lips. People started this trend to get big lips like Kylie’s. After this happened, she went on Twitter and told her fans to stop because it could seriously damage your lips. Due to the trend, another reason she made her own cosmetics is so her fans could get the “Kylie” look without hurt-ing themselves.

The Best of Me is a sad yet great movie. It is about two teenagers who lived in the same little community. The girl Amanda was popular and hung out with the more less “jocks”. The guy was laid back and came from a bad home, his name was Dawson. It’s just how a movie about their teenage years togeth-er and then when they go their separate ways, they somehow meet back up after 20 years. Personally, I thought the actors were great. I loved the scenes and the story behind them. If they had to go back and do different things to better the movie I would say they should start out the movie different. A couple of my favorite scenes of the movie are: when they are sit-ting on the back porch of Jim’s house, just reuniting and getting

back to when they were young and in love. Jim is an older guy who took in Dawson when he was having trouble with his father. Dawson had a horrible home life and snuck out of his house and went to Dawson’s ga-rage and slept in his old car and Jim found him the next morning. Another one of my favor-ite scenes were at the very end Dawson dies and Amanda’s son had something go wrong with his heart to where he needed a new one, the son had found out who his new heart was from it was Dawson, which was Aman-da’s young love. It was a great ending to the movie, personally I don’t think that they need to change anything from it. I high-ly recommend it! I give it five out of five stars.

“The Rocky Horror Picture Show” came out in 1975. “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” is a musical. It focuses on a couple who ended up at a mysterious castle owned by Frank-n-Furter. There are many twists in this movie and some of the songs will get stuck in your head. There are many aspects of the “Rocky Horror” that I enjoyed. I especially liked

the part where they had performed on the stage at the end of the movie. I also enjoyed majority of the songs that were performed. The only thing that I would disagree with the movie was when Janet and Rocky get together. All in all, I give “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” five out of five stars. Let’s do the time warp again!

Twice a year, Liberty University (the college I have decided to attend next year) holds a “Coffeehouse;” basically a hyped up school talent show. Christ-mas Coffeehouse occurs in early De-cember and it’s a campus-wide event. Students prepare for months and audi-tion for spots to perform at Liberty’s Coffeehouse, and the talents showcased range from songs and comedy acts to funny videos and TV show parodies. This year, one of the most popular videos at Coffeehouse that’s slowly go-ing viral is a group of students’ parody to the TV show “Stranger Things”. The video’s name is “Manger Things” (get it, Christmas theme). Seriously, look it up on YouTube, it’s a must-watch, espe-cially if you’re familiar with the show “Stranger Things”. The video is only eight minutes long, and it tells a story of

how baby Jesus goes missing from the manger at Liberty, which causes every-thing to go weird on campus. A group of three students go on a quest to find Jesus and return him to His manger so things will return to normal. Honestly, the sheer quality and professionalism of the video “Manger Things” impressed me. To be honest, if I didn’t know students made the video, I would’ve assumed it was created by a professional videographer. Videography interests me, so I thought the creative video elements included in the video was super cool. All in all, I highly recommend looking up “Manger Things” on YouTube and watching it, not only because of the amusing and inter-esting plot, but for the very imaginative video features as well! I give it five out of five.

“I hope it’s not meatloaf again.” “The Rocky Horror Picture Show: Let’s Do the Time Warp Again” is the 2016 tribute to the original campy science fiction movie “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” that first debuted in 1975. It stars Laverne Cox as Dr. Frank-N-Furter who does justice to the original character, her co-star Tim Curry, who plays the Criminologist Nar-rator. Victoria Justice plays Janet Weiss who I was at first skeptical about but by far has a better voice than the original Janet casted as Susan Sarandon. Ryan McCartan, starring as Brad Majors, also does justice to the role played by origi-nal film star Barry Bostwick. The televi-sion musical still features many of the same iconic songs such as “Science Fic-tion/Double Feature” and “Time Warp.”

As a fan of the original “Rocky Horror,” I along with many others are obviously going to complain about a few of the changes made to this adaptation. First and foremost, Time Warp is the movie’s most iconic song and the scene during this number where the Criminologist uses his chart to explain the dance moves was nowhere to be seen. The color pal-ette of character’s outfits also bothered me, changing from the original black and red to glittery red and gold along with Magenta’s neon catastrophe. Although Meatloaf played a fantastic Eddie, Adam Lambert was a great addition to the cast. Despite the few flaws here and there, this movie was a hit and I rate it a four out of five stars.

Country music artist, Chris Young re-leased his first holiday album in October this year. His album “It Must Be Christ-mas” has ten tracks, eight of which are covers of classic Christmas songs. The ti-tle track and the song “Under the Weath-er” are original songs Young co-wrote. There are also three collaborations with other well-known artists. Brad Paisley

can be heard singing with Young in “The First Noel”. Alan Jackson joins in the cover of Keith Whitley’s song “There’s a New Kid in Town”. R&B vocal group Boyz II Men also take part in the album track “Silent Night”. The entire album is very impressive with a warm holiday sound that gets fan into the Christmas spirit. I give it five stars.

“Stranger Things” is the best Netflix original so far. The show taken place in the 80s, you find nothing but mystery. There is currently one season available on Netflix. With the season only having eight episodes. It is very easy and quick to get through. There is group of four friends, all nerdy boys they are put in a supernatural mystery then all of a sud-den one goes missing. Why did one go missing? Watch to find out. With these great cast members and plot you should sit down, eat some popcorn and watch “Stranger Things!”

WinterWinter is the prime time for layering clothing. Outfits usually consist of sweaters, cardigans, scarves, boots and other layers of clothing. It’s all about staying warm this season. It’s easy to look nice, but be comfortable with items of comfort like over-sized sweaters and leggings. Here are a couple of outfits that we found throughout the school. As you can see, comfort and warmth is most important to students at SMHS.

Get Ready For Winter!

It’s very important that you keep your roads and driveways clear of snow and slush, and snow shovels and snowplows can do just that very well. Snow shovels are large enough to clear sidewalks and driveways quickly, and are very affordable nearly any time during Fall and Winter. For added preparedness, buy an ice scraper for your car windshield. It is very, very easy for your windows to get frosted over in the cold, so an ice scraper will clear that up! Clean any gutters and get your chimneys clear of debris, so they don’t get backed up - your chimneys especially, as they can trap carbon monoxide and cause poisoning. Keep them clean!

It is even more important for you to keep warm in the normally cold fall and winter months, so always keep warm clothes handy; heavy coats, snow pants, gloves, boots and scarves. If need be, stock up on extra clothes for emergencies, and find the warmest and most cost-efficient clothing. Be sure not to get your clothes wet, as the cold will freeze them and you’ll get cold through the layers. If this happens, it is better to take off the wet layers than to keep them on - you will freeze.

Keep a good stock of batteries and keep your electronics charged as much as possible. If the power goes out, you’d want your phone available to contact others if necessary, and flashlights are nearly a must. If needed, get batteries for any heaters and other devices that would need them. Keep an electric generator available in case

of extreme situations, whether buying one, or borrowing one from a neighbor. Generator prices range from $500 to $1800, depending on power. Check your vehicles for gas and/or oil, and get them topped off before any sizable winter storm. Check the anti-freeze and other fluid tanks as well to be prepared for most anything. If at all possible, however, don’t drive during a storm of any kind in winter;you could get stuck in the snow!

If you have a fireplace, keep plenty of firewood cut and ready to use. Either coming in from the cold, or the house needs warmed up, a toasty fire can keep you warm in the winter cold. Be sure to have electric heaters available as well, if necessary. Make sure your house’s air conditioning is in working order, and keep it that way throughout the winter. Check and clear vents, replace air filters, etc. Also, check your plumbing and keep

the pipes from freezing as best you can; frozen pipes lead to no water supply.

Total Domination

History in the MakingSpecial Teams Impress

FlawlessLOST CREEK- Playing the third-ranked team on the road could have been a recipe for disaster for No 5 St. Marys Friday Night. Head Coach Jodi Mote and his players had other intentions however. The Blue Devils cooked up arguably the most impressive win in Class A this season, dominating all facets of the game and delivering a knock-out blow to South Harrison, dismantling the Hawks, 47-6, at Gary Barnette Stadium in Lost Creek. With the weather deteriorating hours before kickoff, Mote and his staff got creative in finding

ways to move the ball against South Harrison’s highly regarded defense, which entered the contest allowing only 10.1 points a contest. Defensively, St. Marys never gave the home team a chance. After capitalizing on a turnover to score early in the contest, the Hawks struggled to even pick up first downs the rest of the way as the Blue Devil defense swarmed to the football and delivered big blows once they arrived.Mote was obviously pleased with his team’s performance. He said it was an example of team-

football at its finest. The Blue Devils improved to 8-0 on the season and should catapult to either the second or third spot in the Class A rankings, depending on the results of other games played this weekend.South Harrison, which had its senior night spoiled by the lopsided loss, fell to 7-1. The Hawks, who have remaining games with Paden city and Wirt county, are still in a position to finish in Class A’s top eight, which would assure them of home-field advantage for at least the first week of the postseason.

ST. MARYS- For the second time in school history and in three years the Blue Devils have made an undefeated run to the State Championship. This is also the second time in school history that a team has had a record of 13-0. A place at the super six dinner table was set for St. Marys once they rolled over former undefeated Fayetteville 47-0. With St. Marys entering the game as No. 2 and Fayetteville as No. 3, not many would have guessed that this game was going to be such a run away; however, that is exactly what it was. The 13th win of the year made for the last game to be played in Bill Hanlin Stadium for the season and for the seniors, their lives. After electing to receive, St. Marys took no time at all to score as they decided to pass on the third play of the game. Billeter found Gray down field for a 58 yard touchdown reception. This was just a taste of how tough of a game the

Pirates were about to be in for. After a drive to the St. Marys 45 yard line, Fayetteville was forced to punt. Instantaneously, Smith made quick work of the drive utilizing some outstanding blocks to make his way 62 yards for the score. The defense gave yet another extraordinary performance when they killed the Pirate’s next drive with an intense pass rush that lead to an inaccurate pass picked off by Smith. Barnhart ended this possession with a one yard touchdown. The ensuing Fayetteville offensive possession made their way to midfield until a sack by Gray forced them to punt yet again. Gray showed off yet again on offensive only a few plays later once Billeter rifled him a pass for the 37 yard touchdown. The first scoring drive of the second half was set up by Kincaid’s interception. Smith found his way into the endzone once again for an 18 yard touchdown.

The next two offensive possessions also ended with scores as Billeter passed to Barnhart for a 38 yard touchdown and Smith ran 6 yards for the next. Smith’s final touchdown was set up by Zac Neiswanger’s fumble recovery. Then an interception by Zac Long really put the icing on the cake for the Blue Devils. The Defense played unbelievable as four Blue Devils were recorded with sacks on a quarterback who had only been sacked two times on the year. Gray, Northrop, Boley, and Hearn all recorded atleast 1 sack. The defense as a whole limited the Pirates to 163 yards total offense. The Blue Devils, however, racked up 430 yards. St. Marys’ victory of 47-0 over Fayetteville puts them in the position to make history as the first team in school history to ever win a State Championship in football.

ST. MARYS- St. Marys’ special teams were just that Friday night – special. On a night when the Blue Devils stadium was named in honor of legendary coach Bill Hanlin, Jaiden Smith returned two kickoffs for touchdowns and Braden Barnhart brought back a punt for a score as St. Marys ran its perfect record to 9-0 with a resounding 63-13 victory over Ravenswood. Dylan Gray also blocked a punt during the contest to help highlight the Blue Devils’ dominance on

special teams.Casto, the go-to running back for Ravenswood, attempted to find a flaw in the St. Marys’ defense, but could not catch a break all night, as he was held to less than 50 yards rushing. The Junior Varsity squad entered the game with 10:39 left in the third quarter, after Will Billeter scrambled up the middle for a 15-yard score putting the Blue Devils up 56-6.Each team would score once more before the clock expired with rushing touchdowns from Blue

Devil Derick Smith and Red Devil Jake Greene. The victory allowed St. Marys to close out its regular-season home schedule with a perfect record intact. It also came in the first official game at the newly named Bill Hanlin stadium.St. Marys will travel to Kidwell next Friday to end the regular season against Tyler Consolidated. A victory will secure a top spot in the Class A playoffs for the Blue Devils.

KIDWELL- For the third time in four years the Blue Devils have ripped and tore their way through their schedule to bring yet another undefeated season home to St. Marys. With a 52-26 victory over Tyler Consolidated on the Knights’ field the Blue Devils sealed the regular season at 10-0. This is only the sixth undefeated season in school history. This win secured the second seed in the playoffs, the LKC Championship, and the P.R.I.D.E. trophy which is given to the winner of the rivalry game between Tyler County and St. Marys.

St. Marys mostly dominated the contest yet Tyler did attempt to show some signs of life in multiple occasions. Neither of the first possessions for either team resulted in a touchdown. Starting on their own 24 yard line, Billeter found Smith for a quick screen pass and Smith sped down the field after using the lead blocks of senior captains Jacob Northrop and Devin Boley to maneuver his way to a 76 yard touchdown. Starting the second quarter, Matt Eichhorn carried the ball around the edge for a 18 yard touchdown. Acquiring possession on

the 40 yard line, the Blue Devils moved into scoring range by a long run from Braden Barnhart. The very next play Barnhart pushed through for a five yard score. Unable to move the ball close enough to score a touchdown Georg Krogh got his chance to make a field goal as he split the uprights for a 23 yard kick. Billeter nearly scored on a 38 yard reception as Barnhart threw a daring pass into double coverage. The final St. Marys touchdown, however, came from Smith on a 1 yard rush.

Characteristics Fast FactsColor

Brown is known to be the most common eye color. They say if

you have brown eyes you are very independent, self-cofident and

determined. You are also known to be trustworthy, and when people look at you they get a sense of

security and stability.

Green is the most rare eye color, with only 2 percent of people

having green eyes.

Green eyes are often thought of as mysterious since they are more rare. People with green eyes are curious

about nature, very passionate in their relationships with other people and have an overall postive outlook

on life. These people tend to get jelous easily, but possess large

amounts of love.

Blue eyes are said to be the most desirable. As babies, many of

us are born with deep blue eyes, but then they change within two

weeks. It is said most people with blue eyes are known to

have a very calm and peaceful personality. Blue eyes are also

representive of knowledge.

Hazel eyes are are a mixture of colors, but mostly green and brown. People with hazel eyes are said to

be very spontaneous and will rarely back down from a challenge. If

there is more green mixed into your eyes , you like to be mischievous. If you have more brown in your

eyes you are said to be more approachable to other people. Hazel eyes are special because they seem

to change color.

We use sight more than any of our other senses. Our eyes work with our brains to tell us the size, shape, color and texture of an object. Our eyes let us know how close something is, whether it is still or coming twords us, and how quickly it is moving. Our eyes give us messages that help us understand the world around us. Although eyes are small compared with most of the body’s other organs their structure is incredibly complex. The eyes work together to enable us to judge distance and the size of an object

to help us move around them. The eyes don’t just work together, they also work with the brain, muscles and nerves to produce complicated visual images and messages. Eyes constantly adapt to the changing enviorment. For example they are able to adjust so that we can easily move around in a nearly dark room or bright sunlight. Eyes have more meaning than you think. Your eyes can tell a lot about you. They can tell your emotion and people can know how you feel sometimes by just looking at your eyes.

When the pupil size changes, the pigments in the iris compress or spread

apart, changing the eye color a bit.

It is called heterochromia when you have two diffrent eye colors.

Brown is the most common eye color.

Brown eyes are actually blue underneath.
