In the interim, Stage teams have sent out an email via CareMonkey advising of work which can be done now for all of the students who are currently at home. With regards to the parents who responded to previous CareMonkey requests for information around availability of a digital device at home, should closure occur we will be in contact with you to organise support. Parent/Teacher Interviews It is fortunate that we have already held Parent/Teacher interviews with parents of students with additional needs. However we arent neglecting the rest of our students. Tell Them From Me student feedback Survey (Term 1, 2020) I am delighted that this term, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a NSW Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices. More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au The survey is designed for students in Years 4, 5 and 6 and are a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. More than 6,300 schools in Australia and around the world have used Tell Them From Me to survey 5.4 million Principals Message Dear Parents/Carers COVID-19 We will continue to send updates via CareMonkey as we receive them. I trust that you have been reading these messages so you are aware of the school events which have been cancelled and/or postponed. Other measures we have taken since my last message, in keeping with reducing gatherings of more than 100, is to separate each stage at eating times. However, as I am sure you can appreciate, whilst the government has suggested social distancing, this is practically impossible in schools. The very nature of schools has students next to each other in work and in play. We are daily reminding our students about hygiene practices and I know many parents are reinforcing this at home as well. Following advice from the NSW Department of Education we have contacted families of students who come to school with coughs, colds and high temperatures to keep their children at home. We have not asked any other students to stay home. Our job is to provide advice. As such we have passed on advice to specific families whose children have significant health issues that may put them at high risk of infection. COVID-19 aside, we also have staff whose immune systems are compromised. At all times please keep your children at home if they are unwell. Whilst they may miss some learning, classrooms are like incubators. Not only do germs spread easily to other students, when teachers get sick the whole classs learning can be disrupted longer when teachers have to take sick leave. students. Capturing the voices of our students will help improve how we do things at our school. I want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The survey is conducted online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during school hours between 9 March and 8 May. Participating in the survey is entirely voluntary. A consent form and FAQs for parents/carers about the survey is being sent home via CareMonkey to all families with students in Years 4, 5 and 6. If you do not want your child or children to participate, please return the form to school by Thursday 26 March. Copies of the form and FAQs are available from: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents

Stage 1 Writing Stage 1 are loving writing! This term they are writing about arachnids. They are learning to use compound sentences with conjunctions, use technical language, use correct punctuation, and revise their writing using ARMs and COPS: A = add details R = remove words we don’t need M = move words to where they should go C = capital letters O = organise writing into a correct sequence P = punctuation like commas and full stops and exclamation marks S = spelling

Stage 3 Writing Stage 3’s Learning Intention was to write a persuasive letter to Woolworths to convince them to reduce or eliminate plastic, using the PEEL structure: P = point E = explanation E = examples or evaluate L = link back to main point Want to write… If your child loves to write, here is a link to a Writing competition that is free and open to all ages. (See flyer further on in the newsletter.) It might be a great thing to keep them occupied at home!

https://www.write4fun.net/competitions/67

Stage 3 - Flexible Learning Styles The purchase and use of “flexible furniture” is proving to be a great success. Students report that it: caters to their individual preferred learning styles, promotes collaboration, makes them more engaged, gives them the opportunity to work with different students in different lessons, gives them choice.
