Our detailed risk assessment and pre- planning ensured that this case was dealt with very quickly and efficiently. It is very unfortunate that a group of our Year 7 students have had their very positive start at Collingwood disrupted because of this but, of course, the health and safety of our students is paramount. Systems are in place to ensure relevant work can be accessed by these students so that they do not fall behind in their studies and therefore can make a good return to College in the near future. On this occasion work will be communicated by e-mail but from Monday we will ensure that any student who is self-isolating will be able to access their work on the Microsoft365 applications - OneNote or Teams - in order for them to access the classwork. At the back of this newsletter there are help sheets to assist students with OneNote and Teams. Their teachers will let them know which platform to use. Therefore students and parents are politely requested not to email staff for work until they have looked in the designated applications. We send our best wishes to the student who tested positive for the virus and hope they make a speedy recovery. Obviously, we all hope that there are no further cases but, if they do occur, I am confident that we are well-placed to respond effectively in the future. We have been asked by the Department for Education to share a letter with you regarding Covid-19 symptoms and this is reproduced on Page 6 of this newsletter. CONTINUED ON PAGE 3 During lockdown, the Geography Department sent out a wide range of additional, optional activities on a weekly basis for students to complete once they had finished their classwork (if they had some spare time or saw an extra activity offered that particularly took their interest). We were thrilled to see so many of our Geography students getting involved and really going above and beyond. Many students completed additional pieces of work on a weekly basis and all students who completed a piece of additional work were rewarded with praise points. The department kept a record of those studentsnames who completed additional work so that we could put the names through a random name generator for a prize draw once we returned. Mrs Magness ensured all the names were entered into the prize draw (the more pieces of work produced the more times a students name was listed in the name generator) and Mrs Vassallo (Maths Department) kindly agreed to spin the wheel. The lucky winner of the draw was Jack in Year 9 who was rewarded with a £5 Amazon Voucher. Main College / Sixth Form Open Evenings and Academic Review Event Regrettably these will not go ahead due to the current situation and therefore there will be no need for any early College closures on the published dates - Thursday 1 October, Thursday 8 October and Wednesday 21 October will be normal College days. Further details on how we intend to manage the Academic Review event will be published soon. The term dates have been revised and can be found on Page 4. Please note that the dates in the student planner are incorrect due to certain amendments being made after publication.

Information for Those Parents Who Have Children in Year 6 If you have children in Year 6 please can I suggest you access the ‘Information for Prospective Year 7 Students’ page on our website where you will find details of events that are replacing our traditional Open Evening and Parental Tours this year. These include a virtual tour of the site, a voiced Open Evening PowerPoint presentation, a video produced by our students on the ‘Collingwood Experience’ and dates for a number of ‘Meet the Principal’ talks.

IT Audit During the Summer term we conducted a comprehensive IT audit of the students in the College. We would now like to extend this to our Year 7 students and use the information gained to support families with equipment or IT advice where a need has been identified: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=2-LJJfgXiUyBAjIglUNbtv-0qkMaGk1Dse8-htVNt8lUQjNBWTBWTDVGRzBXNldFMFFTMlczTlRBNi4u

Year Group Rotas Before and After College As from Monday 7 September the Library is following the rota below for students accessing the Library before and after College.

Break and Lunchtime During break and lunch times the Library will only permit the year groups that mirror breaks and lunchtimes to attend at the same time, i.e.:

• Years 7 and 10

• Year 9

• Years 8 and 11.

When there are two year groups they will be kept apart in the Library by a divider. There is a one-way system and signage for the students to follow. The number of students will be limited to 22 maximum per year group, a total of 44 students maximum at any one time. Rules to be adhered to when visiting the Library:

• Respect social distancing as much as possible

• Apply hand sanitiser before coming into the Library (we have a dispenser at the entrance)

• Wear a mask when browsing for books or DVDs

• Ask a member of staff if you need to access the fiction and non-fiction section

• Only three students of the same bubble are allowed at one time to choose books.

For the safety of everybody, it is compulsory to wear a face mask when choosing a book or a DVD in the Library. Please can we also ask that if students select a book from the shelves to read during break time and lunch time, that they keep their face mask on whilst reading the book. Reading Club Reading Club is taking place online via Teams every Wednesday between 4.30pm and 5.30pm. If you want to take part, please email: [email protected] and we will send you an invitation. Overdue Library Books All Library Books that were borrowed before lockdown will need to be returned to the library as soon as possible. If for any reason these books cannot be returned, then please email Ms S Blay - Library Co-Manager at [email protected].

Mrs N Teissonniere and Ms Blay - Library Co-Managers
