WEEKLY CHRONICLE WEEKLY CHRONICLE VOLUME 4:12 9 th December 2009 www.seschool.ae [email protected] [email protected] Newsletter I hope you all had a good break last week. We have started back as though we had never stopped. In Primary the Christmas Production has being going full steam ahead and yesterday’s performance in the shamal was fantastic. Just keeping fingers crossed for a little less wind, less sand and no rain this evening ( Wednesday). The carol concerts, carol singing and Foundation concert are to be looked forward to next week. I hope to see many of you there. Please note the Atlantis Carol Singing is now on Tuesday, not Wednesday. We currently finish next week on Thursday at mid-day but there is some talk that this might be brought forward to Wednesday due to the start of the Islamic New Year being a day earlier. I will let you know if this is the case but until then please continue to assume the school closes for the winter break on Thursday. When we return in January, senior students are straight into mock examinations and GCE external examinations. I trust that proper revision and preparation will be taking place. Primary reports and Secondary monitoring reports are due to be sent home on Monday next week. College Board Number/Registration. I am pleased to report to you that SES has now received its College Board Number and is approved to administer the SAT admission tests. The se are not the same SAT tests used in the National Curriculum but the most widely used admissions tests consulted by colleges in America. Our GCSE and A level courses were the foundation for our application for this status and this means that there should be no barriers to SES students applying for admissions to American colleges or universities. Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal I am writing to thank you for all your help in collecting donations for the British Royal Legion 2009 Poppy Appeal. I am sure you will be pleased to learn that Sharjah English Speaking School raised Dhs.956.50. If I do not manage a Chronicle next week, I take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy Christmas, winter break and New Year, and thank you all for the support you have given the school this term. I hope you all had a good break last week.

We have started back as though we had never stopped. In Primary the Christmas Production has being going full steam

ahead and yesterday’s performance in the shamal was fantastic. Just keeping fingers crossed for a little less wind, less sand

and no rain this evening ( Wednesday).

The carol concerts, carol singing and Foundation concert are to be looked forward to next week. I hope to see many of you

there.

Please note the Atlantis Carol Singing is now on Tuesday, not

Wednesday.

We currently finish next week on Thursday at mid-day but there is some talk that this might be brought forward to

Wednesday due to the start of the Islamic New Year being a day earlier. I will let you know if this is the case but until then

please continue to assume the school closes for the winter break on Thursday.

When we return in January, senior students are straight into mock examinations and GCE external examinations. I trust that

proper revision and preparation will be taking place.

Primary reports and Secondary monitoring reports are due to be sent home on Monday next week.

College Board Number/Registration.

I am pleased to report to you that SES has now received its College Board Number and is approved to administer the SAT

admission tests. The se are not the same SAT tests used in the National Curriculum but the most widely used admissions

tests consulted by colleges in America. Our GCSE and A level courses were the foundation for our application for this status

and this means that there should be no barriers to SES students applying for admissions to American colleges or universities.

Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal

you will be pleased to learn that Sharjah English Speaking School raised Dhs.956.50.

If I do not manage a Chronicle next week, I take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy Christmas, winter break and

New Year, and thank you all for the support you have given the school this term.

SES SPORTS & ACTIVITIES BULLETIN

No. 2

Welcome to our very own SES Sports & Activities page. Every week the

PE Department will keep you posted on the latest Primary and Secondary

sports events, fixtures and activities. We will also give you regular

updates on the progress of the Senior Sports Leaders and Primary Play

Ground Leaders as their experiences and responsibilities progress

throughout the year.

U12 Netball Tournament @SES

Sunday 22nd November

Girls from years 5-7 represented the school in an Under 12’s

netball tournament, which took place at S.E.S, on Sunday. The

girls thoroughly enjoyed the tournament and, although the

competition was fairly tough, they all worked well and truly

tried their best. Our B team came in 7th place and our A team

came 2nd – congratulations girls! A big thank you to all the girls

for participating in the tournament and showing great team

spirit! I’d also like to thank all the parents who came along to

support the teams – it was greatly appreciated. A big thank you

also goes out to the Y10 and Y11 Sports Leaders who set up and

ran the event, umpired many of the games and took on the role

of Team Manager to one of the SES teams. Well done to all

those involved.

Netball Tournament from approx. 1pm– 5pm. Good Luck girls

and we will see some shots of the action in the next PE bulletin.

SWIMMING

Congratulations to all the staff, students and parents who

participated in the Burj Swim two weeks ago. A tremendous

amount of money was raised for charity.

In an effort to avoid clashing with the primary performance

and some unfavorable weather forecasts for this week we

decided to re-schedule the Senior Swimming Gala until April

next year. We will announce a new date early in the new year.

AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITY CLUBS A new activities timetable will be announced in the PE Bulletin

next week. Clubs will begin on Sunday 10th January 2010.

GENTLE REMINDERS

PE Kit – Please make every effort to ensure that you pack all of your PE

kit, including white socks for every lesson. Bring a small towel, water

bottle and roll-on deodorant. No spray cans please. We do have a small

selection of ‘unattractive and totally un-cool’ spare kit that we will issue

to anyone who forgets to bring kit. You have been warned!

Water Bottles – Please remember to bring a water bottle to PE Lessons

and after school clubs.

Injury and/or sickness – We encourage all students to be involved in

every PE lesson, therefore if for whatever reason your son/daughter is

unable to participate in PE we would expect a note of explanation to be

handed to the teacher before the start of the lesson. Any student

unable to participate in the practical aspect of the lesson should still

bring PE kit as they will be expected to take on a less physically

demanding role such as referee or coach.

Lost Property – If you leave something in the PE Dept then there is a

good chance it will end up in the lost property basket. This is emptied at

the beginning of every week and taken to the nurses’ room in the Primary

school. Please do not bring anything of value into school.

If you need to contact the PE Dept staff for any reason here’s how:

Miss Welsh (HOD/Senior Girls PE) [email protected]

Mrs Garrett (Primary PE Co-ordinator) [email protected]

Mrs Southworth (Primary PE/Dance) [email protected]

Mr Garrett (Senior Boys PE/GCSE PE) [email protected]

Mr Rees (Senior PE) [email protected]

OR Leave a message at reception and we will call you back when we have a minute.
