president's podiumHaving recently attended an Area Representative meetingin Turangi I was really impressed with the depth andquality of the Club’s Area Representatives and what theybrought to the table. Their congeniality around the tablewas there in bucket loads. We were all very appreciative ofour Editor Bruce going the extra mile to get to thismeeting. Having to leave home at 3am and not makinghome again until 10.30pm was a big ask. One of our majortools for communication is through the Club’s Newsletterand to be able to sit down with the Editor is not a chanceto be missed. The range of topics ranged over a widespectrum of subjects. Every Rep brought plenty to thetable for us all to consider; everyone present took

something very important away from this meeting. The chance to meet fellow Repsface to face and to open up communication channels with each other makes it so mucheasier to keep the channels of communication open, and to liaise with adjoining areasto share activities. For members of the Club this aspect of the meeting made theweekend worthwhile on its own. Not to mention the productive input from all thosepresent on so many different points of view all of which went into the melting pot tomake a better Club for us all. Our Reps are the engine room of our Club and without acommitted Rep in an area the area will suffer for it. At the end of the day it is all aboutfunctionality along with communication. However, if your area is to stay healthy yourRep needs your input either by way of your participation in events or your contributionby way of support for your Reps efforts on our behalf. Let’s not forget if you would liketo see something happen in your area your Rep won’t know about what you would liketo see happen if you don’t communicate with them. Three of our Reps were unable tomake the Meeting having compelling commitments. Andy in the South, livestockissues; Chocky in the Waikato work came knocking; Ian in the North had to ride amotorcycle in Australia (hard luck Ian) but lucky for us he is now back in the land of thelong white cloud. We currently have two areas were we require a Rep. One in Marlborough and the otherin Canterbury. As for Marlborough hang on help is on the way. Canterbury we need youto stand up and give it your best shot. Contact myself or Garry. You will read elsewhere in this Newsletter there are some remits to be presented at theA.G.M. Come along to the A.G.M. and listen to the background behind these remitsbefore you make a decision. Why not make a weekend of it and join in our Annual Rally.Registrations close at the end of November.Just one last reminder, all positions on the Executive are up for election. If you know ofa financial member who has the skill sets and enthusiasm to try for a position on theExecutive why not have a word with this member and obtain their consent in order thatyou could nominate them for a position suitable for their skill set. Or you might want tooffer yourself for a position on the Executive. You will need a member to nominate you.We currently have a nomination for President, Vice President and General Member. The Treasurer and Membership Secretary as incumbents have offered to stand againin their respective roles. This doesn’t preclude you for standing for any position on theExecutive. The position of Secretary for the coming year doesn’t currently have anynominations registered with our current Secretary. You will also read within this Newsletter an account of a shortened Executive Meetingwhich took place on the back of the Area Rep Meeting held in Turangi. This meetingwas cut short owing to the weather conditions which were forecast for road closureson the Desert Road and heavy rain to the North. Three members in a car elected to goSouth via the Desert Road and made it across before any heavy snow fell on the road. However three of us on bikes elected to ride round the back of the mountain throughNational Park and Ohakune. I don’t remember riding in colder conditions. The BruceRoad was closed owing to blizzard conditions. All three of us were hammered by thesevere chill factor of the winds and icy rain that swept across our pathway home. I eventurned the handlebar warmers on.As always - wheels down, feet up!Petera.k.a. Tibsy.

area reportsbay of plentyFor October we met at Caltex Greertonand discussed our spring ride. Anoptional gravel leg of the journey wasoffered but declined due to three crookknees, and a crook shoulder betweenus(!), so it was decided to just cruise it onseal for the day. Starting with 5 bikes werode through the back roads of Oropi,Kaharoa Rd, Penny Lane and out TeWaeranga Rd to the top of Lake Rotorua(where our Rotorua members werewaiting and hooked in for the ride). Verylittle traffic and stunning weather madefor an easy ride around the eastern lakesof Lake Rotoiti, Lake Rotuehu and LakeRotoma. A stretch of the legs and scenicpit stop at the Lake edge before a superbcar-less sprint over the Manawahe Rd.Here the road was in good condition andthen on to Whakatane. We arrived about1.00pm for Lunch at “Wallys on theWharf” where another lady rider waswaiting for us. Prompt service andamazing fresh fish went down prettyquick by hungry bikers! Our next stopwas at Matata Garden Bar to quench thethirst (from all those salty chips!) for thefinal leg home. Our Rotorua memberspeeled off via Paengaroa and wecontinued back to Tauranga via Te Puke(no tolls that way!)

By the time this goes to print we will behaving our Pot luck dinner on Halloweennight – that could be scary!

Check out the Events notices for ourNorthern Ramble weekend away toWaipu and districts in November. This is

a great time of the year to visit the coastbefore the holidaymakers arrive. Blockout these dates and come along for a funsummer weekend away (from all thoseboring pre-xmas parties)!! But keep theevening free for our Xmas BBQ inDecember!!

See you out there!

wellingtonAfter travelling out of the District for allour monthly rides so far this year, it was apleasant change to stay in and aroundWellington. The October ride was to theCoastguard Base at Evans Bay wheretwo of our local Register members areCoastguard volunteers.

The gathering point for this ride was atthe Petone Wharf car park where 5 ridersand 2 pillions assembled for the shortride through the city and out around thebays to Evans Bay. Another member RobYoung and his wife Christine joined us atthe Evans Bay Base.

Our host and guide was register memberTerry Samson. Unfortunately the mainrescue craft had been called out earlier inthe morning to assist a yacht with enginetrouble through the Wellington Harbourheads into a strong northwest breeze. One of the duty crew on this rescue wasDave Hubble who is also a registermember.

The coastguard base was built byvolunteer labour and houses 2 rescuecraft, a training area and a control roomwhich is the nerve centre of theorganisation. The nature of the workthese volunteers sign up for requires

extensive training in a wide range ofareas from boat handling skills andcompetencies, marine legalrequirements and standards that must bemet and maintained, rescue techniquesthrough to OSH requirements for boththe volunteers and those they rescuealike.

Many of those rescued are being savedfrom their own stupidity, as recently, asthe weekend of the visit a man had to berescued from floating towards theharbour entrance in a rubber/plastic blowup dinghy purchased from theWarehouse, the alarm having been raisedby the cross harbour ferry.

What became abundantly clear is thatthese volunteers are highly trained andqualified and very dedicated particularlywhen it is learnt that this Service is totallyreliant on goodwill and donationsreceiving no money from theGovernment. This was a very interestingvisit thanks going to Terry Samson andhis on duty colleagues for showing usaround and explaining what they do.

Nothing had been formally planned interms of a ride post the Coastguard Basevisit Dave O suggested a ride around therest of the bays culminating in a ride outto Makara Beach for lunch at the localcafe. This ride also promised theprospect of seeing the larger of the tworescue craft towing the yacht into theharbour. A couple of the riders said theyhad seen it all happening off Island Bay.

The ride continued in land from OhiroBay travelling up through Brooklyn intothe Aro Valley over the hill into Karori andonto the Makara Road. As we

approached Makara Beach we passedanother rider heading the other way on aBMW and when he spotted us all heturned and joined us at the local Cafe heturned out to be another Registermember Dave Ross.

After a pleasant lunch and conversationswe departed most travelling through theTakarau Gorge to Johnsonville and homefrom what had been a very interestingvisit and a varied ride including coastal, city and rural roads.

otago/southlandSunday 18th October saw a selectcontingent from Otago and Southlandconverge on Lawrence. Others may haveseen fit to take note of the extremeweather warning forecasting gales. Yes, itwas windy. And judging by the brancheson some of the roads I missed the worstof the gusts. There was even a bit of rainon the way home. But there was baconfor lunch, almost a surfeit some mightsay. It was good to catch up with peopleafter the (long, cold) southern winter, anda unanimous decision was taken thatNovember's ride should be a visit to theHighlands raceway. That's democracy inaction. Or anarchy.

aucklandIn last month’s Newsletter, you will haveseen that there was an Area Repsmeeting at Turangi over the weekend of19/20 September. Far from it being heldin a resort-like environment with chilleddrinks served by attentive staff (I wish!)the accommodation was basic, the lunchmade by one of the partners, and instantcoffee made by our own fair hands.

It was a very constructive meeting with awide range of subject covered. Most ofthe Area Reps were relatively new to thejob with the result that many of thesubjects had already been previouslydiscussed by the Executive. However, apart from these clarifications, newchallenges and suggestions were voicedand it was encouraging to see theapproach of everyone there: it wasobvious that we all wanted the samething and that the Executive were doingtheir best to achieve it.

As you will have seen from last month’sNewsletter article on the Area Repsmeeting, I was spotted making copiousnotes and at the following Sunday Cafémeeting, ran over the 29 points that hadcome out from the weekend. Most ofthese were administrative details notworth reporting here but the Executivewas excited by Grant Aislabie’ssuggestion of holding a future rally inAuckland: 2019 is a definite possibility! We now need to start discussing theconcept and put a proposal to theExecutive. Grant is looking for some initialassistance and any ideas so if you canhelp, please contact him [email protected].

The 4 October Sunday Café meeting(where I briefed the Auckland committee)was spectacularly well attended. Therewere so many new faces and the crowdso large that I had to get a chair fromoutside to join Grant’s table. Surprisingly, most of those present left when theRugby match finished, never to be seenagain. However, this did mean that wecould at last hear ourselves speak andorder coffee and breakfast withoutgetting in the way of the screen.Ironically, sitting in the Trafalgar Café,England lost (but at least they were notplaying France or Spain!). Whilst Nelsonwas shot during this battle, one of theEngland team was sent off so I guessboth sides were playing with one mandown. Unusually, everyone in the roomwas supporting Australia!

After the Café Meeting, 6 bikes left for atiki tour of the area and then out toClevedon and Half Moon Bay. Theweather turned out to be fantasticmaking it a really enjoyable day. The nextCafé Meeting will be on 6 December andwe are looking for somewhere suitableout west. If you have any suggestions, please email Joe [email protected].

The planned ride to Arapuni on 20

September was delayed a week due toweather; definitely a good decision. Irode back from the Area Reps meetingon the original date and it was not thatpleasant. In contrast, the following weeksaw a great day with 14 bikes making thetrip. The weather was excellent and TonyO’Connor led the group down “Roadsless travelled” (as Noel Walker describedit).

On Sunday 15 November there is aplanned ride to Whangamata/WaihiBeach which should make for a good dayalso. I will send out details by emailshortly.

The monthly Club night was held on 12October and hosted by Phil and Gail atTechmoto. They have only been open 18months and I have to admit, it was myfirst visit. However, I was impressed bytheir range and quality of rider gear andaccessories and I will certainly be goingback. It was a really enjoyable eveningwith 20 or so members attending (mostof whom took away free raffle prizesgenerously donated by Phil and Gail).Techmoto can be found on the web andat 500 New North Road, Kingsland.

The next monthly Club night is plannedfor Wednesday 11 November at the SeaCow Cafe on Mission Bay waterfront at 7pm. The café is opposite the beach carpark entrance at the city end of thebeach. Motorcycle parking is rightoutside and cars can park in the carparkopposite. The meal available will be fish, chips with salad for $12.00 (great value!)or there is an individual full menu as anoption. It is licenced and we will have theroom upstairs. This is a social evening sohope to see you there.

(Don’t forget that all the rides and eventspublished in the Newsletter are open toeveryone. If you need more details, please contact the relevant Area Rep; ourdetails are on the back cover).

rangitikeiIn Don & Sue’s absence (they were inAdelaide) we gathered at Caroline’sBoatshed in Wanganui for the monthlymeal meeting. By “we”, read Barry,Jeanette, Roger, Liz, Neil, Brenda,*Robert, *Rob, Lance, Heather, andLeader of the Pack, *Peer. The nameswith asterisks are singled out as RealRiders. Yes, they came on theirmotorcycles.

Some may recall Carolines from their stayat the 2015 Rally/AGM. It is thecafe/restaurant en route to AramohoMotor Camp and Holiday Park.

Meals are always generous. In fact, theyare so generous that few desserts wereordered. The most popular dish of thenight was Seafood Chowder.

Lance Nixon

Lance Nixon had organised a ride to theRotokare Sanctuary for our monthly ridefor October. The ride was to be combinedwith the Taranaki riders and Ulyssesriders from Wanganui and New Plymouth.

Our meeting venue was the Pukeko cafein Wanganui at 10.00 am with departurescheduled for 10.30.

Lance was unable to ride on the day so atshort notice Neville Parker was in the hotseat to lead the ride. By 10.30 eighteenbikes were assembled ready for a briefingwith a scheduled meeting with the ridersfrom New Plymouth at Patea. I positionedmyself behind Neville as we left the cafeat 10.30 and the view in my mirrors of 16bikes following made for an impressivesight.

We turned off State Highway 3 at Mokoiafor a leisurely ride through some ofTaranaki best dairy farm lands.

When we arrived at Rotokare there was aset of double gates that were part of thesecurity system. We opened one set ofgates and rode in then these gatesclosed before the second set wouldopen.

We enjoyed the views over the lake as weate our packed lunches

Rotokare is the largest fenced naturalwetland in New Zealand located 12 kmeast of Eltham.

With a 230 hectare forested hill-countrycatchment, extensive wetlands and 17.8ha natural lake. Mature tawa, rewarewaand mahoe dominated forest is home tokiwi, tui, bellbird, keruru, grey warbler andNorth Island robin, plus a variety of otherbird species. The lake edge habitatconsists of raupo, flax andpukatea/kahikatea swamp forest.

Rotokare Scenic Reserve Trust wasformed in 2004 by a group of localsconcerned that the habitat at Rotokarewas in a state of decline. Members of thepublic became involved as volunteers andsponsors of an intensive pest trappingprogramme. This was highly successfulin eradicating well over 4,000 pests.

A specially designed predator-prooffence now circles the 8.2 km reserveperimeter, acting as a barrier to pestsimmigrating from surrounding farmland. The fence is designed to keep out allspecies from cats and possums, to ratsand baby mice.

After lunch we made our way home inseparate groups and the Rangitikeiregrouped back at the Pukeko cafe forafternoon coffee.

Our thanks to Lance for organising suchan interesting venue for a ride.

Cheers, Don Cross

Don sent two images of the lake, I used the one where thewater isn't on a slope. I guess the other version is the Irish one,

where they do downhill water-skiing.

Currently the Rule 5 (vii) reads:

“Fees for membership applications received after 01 January in any year will be reduced to 50% of the annual subscription for theremainder of the financial year. The new member joining fee will still apply. The member’s participating spouse or partner will pay10% of the full subscription.”

This should be amended to read:

“Fees for new membership applications received after July in any year will be reduced pro rata each month.

However, if a New Member joins in June and is prepared to pay the full membership fee, then they will enjoy thirteen monthsmembership for that payment.

The new member joining fee will still apply. The member’s participating spouse or partner will pay 10% of the full subscription.”

Rationale:

This amendment is suggested to correct a situation where prospective new members see paying twelve months' fee from August toDecember, and six months' fee from February to June as not being value for money, and a disincentive to joining the Register.

The bonus month if joining in June and paying the full fee is seen as a positive incentive to encourage joining.

Moved: Ian Macartney 3190

Seconded: Bruce Crowther 1861

Nomination for Executive Committee Member:Dale Grover has been nominated by Don Cross.

Canterbury RideBlasphemy I know, but there are a few ofus who do understand that a game ofrugby will always turn out the samewhether we watch it or not. To be honest, when it comes to NZ vs. France in a worldcup knock out, I’m far too nervous towatch it live so figure it’s better to get outon the bike then watch a replaydepending on the final score. So that’swhat six of us did. In a howlingnor’wester, and after just enough rain tokeep the dust down, Pat (800GS), Alanand George (800GS), George (800GSA),Andrea (XT225) and I headed up theOkuku Pass for a jaunt through the LeesValley.

Sublime as always, the road winds up the

pass with some quite tight corners and anumber of small fords and gates tonegotiate, all done with aplomb todayand no mishaps. Even the Okuku River, which can be tricky if you can’t see thebottom and don’t have your wits aboutyou, proved no problem to these intrepidsouls. The wind was a problem, especially on the deeper gravel and acouple of very strong gusts from behindmade the descent into the Ashley prettyfiery. However, after a couple of hours ofbrilliant riding, we emerged onto the mainroad and headed to Oxford for lunch –sausage rolls the order of the day. ;-0

South Island R.A.G. Rally 2015 Lake Ohau Lodge - 11th to 13th DecemberThis year's South Island “Rough as Guts” Rally is in early December in the heart of the Mackenzie Country. The area offers a wonderful selection of most types of riding. Over the Lindis Pass for lunch in Wanaka? Graveland fords through the Hakataramea valley, maybe make a loop of it and take in the Black Forest Station Road? Orthat lunch in Wanaka then back over Dansey's Pass?

There are options to suit every taste.

Accommodation includes dinner, bed and breakfast at the Lake Ohau Lodge(http://www.ohau.co.nz/ohau/OhauLodge/). The food is good, the bar well stocked, the rooms comfortable and theview from the hot tubs spectacular! The Lodge have been kind enough to hold some rooms until the end ofAugust for BMWOR members to book, best to get in quick before they all go or are opened back up to the generalpublic. The rooms on offer are several of each:

• Huxley (outside wing where there are twin or quad (2 sets of bunks) Single $150; Twin share $109; Quadshare $97.50

• Temple (queen and single beds and fabulous views) Single $191; Dbl/Twin share $153

• Upper Temple (best, rooms have a queen bed only so suitable for singles or couples) Single $245; Double$165

Rates are per person, per night, for dinner, bed and breakfast.

Please arrange accommodation directly with the Lodge: email [email protected] or phone reception on(03) 4389 885 with the following information: Advise that you are with the BMW group; First and Last Names;Home Address; Cell Phone number; Email; Will you be there for dinner on the Friday night; Do you have anyspecial dietary requirements?

If you can also let me know at [email protected] that you're planning to attend I'll keep you up to datewith any details as they emerge. General plan is to make our own way there to gather for dinner on the Fridayevening, spend the Saturday riding in groups or whatever takes peoples fancy before returning for dinner, thenhead off on Sunday. Look forward to exploring some of the iconic local landscapes together!

Footnote for the brave/foolhardy: If you get in too late to arrange accommodation at the Lodge (or you like itreally rough) there are a few campsites along the edge of the lake. The DOC one in the Temple valley is a lovelysetting amongst a remnant of native beech forest, and free. But there's no hot tub. Or bar. Or food. Or tap. Just along drop, a creek you can cool your beer in, and a few fords to negotiate on the way to the road end.

NelsonWe met Pierre (a new rider with us) andtook him to our meeting spot just out ofNelson City on the road to Blenheim, Igot a huge shock when I arrived to see awhat looked like a massive amount ofbikes waiting, fortunately they were notall coming with us as the local Ullyssesgroup were also meeting at same place, phew.

We still had an awesome turnout with 14bikes plus Ethan as my pillion, we madeour way to Forrester Cafe just outside ofRai Valley for our coffee stop, then ontoOkiwi Bay where we re-grouped and acouple of riders turned back for home asarranged due to the upcoming gravel.

We then carried on to the turn off toElaine Bay where the gravel road took usdown to French Pass, the road surfacewas perfect (albeit dusty) graduating fromextremley smooth dirt to gravel, back todirt and so on, all the way for 22k's.

I had never ridden this road before and Inow regret not doing so earlier as it isbrilliant. Once everyone got the dust frombetween their teeth they seemed to havea great time eating picnic lunches at thebeach and gradually left for home in theirown time.

We stopped for an ice cream in Okiwi Bayon the way home with Tony & Gretchen, then Ethan and I stopped off in Rai Valley

for more refreshments as he was lookingvery tired. A great day was had by all and Ifor one enjoyed meeting some riders thatI had never met before.

I would like to say well done to Gretchenbraving the chilly seas once again for aquick dip.

Headed back to Oz as I'd sold the trustyV-Strom after 23,000km around thisamazing country over the past 3 years. I'dpurchased a 2011 F800GS offwww.bikepoint.com.au with only 6100kmand trucked it to Brisbane to set up forsome off-road oriented riding.

It's a story on its own about intercountrybuying and selling, Interstate degistering, reregistering, $80 Road WorthyCertificates, 3% Stamp Duty, andinterstate transport but it all cametogether via phone, emails and creditcard. I'd purchased a few accessoriesfrom the USA and sent them directly toAustralia as they currently have a $1000threshold before GST is added.

Travelling light the plan was to head north

to Noosa for a wee familiarisation run viathe Hinterland and GlasshouseMountains, then south to Boonah nearthe NSW border for the HorizonsUnlimited Meeting. Then down the NewEngland Highway to Singleton in theHunter Valley turning off to ride the 178

km of the amazing Putty Road toWindsor.

Departed Brisbane up to Mt Mee and thePit Stop Cafe, a real biker destination.Expansive views down the valley to a verydistant Brisbane. This place has regularbiker entertainment, a small memorabiliashop, excellent food and even a freecleaning kit for your Helmet and Screen. As it was a weekend there were a lot ofbikes out including a guy on a very loud

Harley with 170hp on the dyno at the rearwheel.

I rode on through the D'Aguilar Range tothe Blackall Range via Maleny, Montvilleand Mapelton. The riding up here issuperb; rolling, twisting, hill country withviews out to the Sunshine Coast andPacific Ocean 30 km to the East and400m below.

I thought a little off-road would be goodto try the GS so took the Mapelton ForestRoad/Track to Lake Cooloolabin anddown to Yandina - pretty good and I don'tthink the V-Strom would have been toohappy on the rock shelf and drainageculverts. On into Noosa Beach; not fun inSunday traffic during school holidays.Beach packed, 25oC, ate lunch feelingoverdressed.

Caught up with some NZ friends who hadrecently emigrated from Flag Central andspent a brilliant day being guided 200km

back up into the hinterlandaccompanying their '97 Thunderbird 900

Brisbane to Sydney, 1600 Kilometres.Words and images, Ian Macartney

to various cafes & watering holes inKenliworth & Palmwoods.

Next day it was inland to Kilcoy, SomersetDam and the infamous Mt Glorious Rdinto Brisbane. Even on a weekday therewere a few riders out but this road didn'tfeature crosses and mounted helmets fornothing - very tight with leaf litter andshaded, damp, corners could easily seeyou getting your ambition and ability outof kilter.

Couple of nights in Brisbane reassessinggear, cleaning bike and then through theCity Maze (just love that Garmin Zumo)and on to Boonah, a neat little countrytown with Cafes, 2 Pubs, $5 beer anddesignated bike parking outside - toomuch !

The Horizons Event was located at apurpose built School Camp Facility of avery high standard just on the outskirts of

town. You could camp for $14/night or for$42/night have a spotless room, bed andlinen with places to put your gear, powerpoints and a heat pump - luxury.

Around 130 bikes and attendees. The 2day programme was varied andinteresting. It was a mission picking andchoosing who to listen to: workshops ontyre changing, bearings, electrical, secretwomen's business talks (it's anAustralian term), up to the Cape, acrossthe middle, Sydney to London, photography, travelling light, First Aid,camping, etcetera. Huge buffet dinners, followed by another keynote presentationand a firepit which carried on till late.

There were 4 kiwis attending, with onechap flying over and hiring a car just forthe weekend.

If you're interested check outwww.horizonsunlimited.com It's notexpensive to join and is a great source ofinfo, forums and interesting people whohave done it, are doing it or wanting to doit and keen to help if you want to.

From Boonah I teamed up with another800GS rider, 22year old Georgia, aParamedic from Walcha who was ridingpast my destination of Armidale, 400kmsouth. This young lady is amazing havingjust returned from a solo Scotland toNorth Africa return trip. Her bike wasextremely well set up and she knew howto ride, having accompanied CharleyBoorman on his Compass ExpeditionTours as the paid paramedic. She evenhad a CB radio to talk to Truckers prior toovertaking - very handy in the dustyoutback.

The New England Highway is a popularroute for riders avoiding the PacificHighway which is not fun - 3 lanes of bigtrucks and fast cars, boring.

Pretty nippy in Armidale, a frost in fact.5oC when I set off at 8am to Tamworthwhere I started peeling layers off.Revisited the private PowerhouseMotorcycle Museum $8 including acuppa. This is a fine collection ofimmaculate bikes with some interestingstories all owned by one man with apassion.

From here it was south along the edge ofthe Great Dividing Range and into theHunter Valley, Muswellbrook and

Above: Plenty of variety of makes, sizes and equipment.

Despite the attempt to turn night intoday, Oz still isn't the safest country to

ride at night.

Singleton. This last bit was not that goodas speed traps, average speed set ups, police cars, fixed and mobile cameras, trucks and coal mining operations notquite what I was expecting. The otherthing is the many and varied speed zoneschanging constantly so you need to keepa sharp eye for signs and changes. It wasgood to get to Singleton, fuel up, latelunch. Litre of iced coffee (that wasn't agood idea with 178km of twisties ahead). It was now 30oC . The Putty Road I hadridden 4 months earlier heading northand it's one of those roads you could rideevery weekend.

Endless forests of Gum trees, creeks, rocky gorges and mountain top riding. The White Gum Cafe in the middle andnot much else. At the end it pops out atWindsor, a very cool little historic villagetown.

At a rest stop in the forest I met a chap ona VTR 'draining the potatos' which wason my agenda as well. He said he'd,"Discovered that his fuel tank had twicethe range of his bladder." I'd have toconcur after the litre of iced coffee & potof tea I'd drunk 80km earlier in Singleton.

The Sun was dropping so the Garminguided me 30km to Penrith past lifestyleblocks and commuters heading home.

I parked the bike up in a Kennards selfstorage facility 2.5m x 1.5m lockup for$136/month. Caught the express trainfrom Penrith, $22 and 45min to CentralStation, change to Airport, night in theIbis and 8am Emirates home - top airline.

It was an excellent ride on the superbF800GS. Going to fit some Andy Strapzsoft bags later and a plastic suitcasestyle rear box ($99 Kingchrome fromBunnings) which is de riguer amongstthe adventure riding set here in Oz.Impressed with the bike although 16 litrefuel capacity is not ideal for Australia.Have purchased a a Desert Fox 5 litre fuelbladder (A$99) to extend range in theoutback by 100-120km, increasing rangefrom 350km to 450km.

Heading back Nov 8-13 to take part inthe BMW GS Safari from Jenolan CavesNSW to Bairnsdale VIC along with 200GS riders.
