FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK

Book Week at Bletchley Park

It was great to see so many students and teachers dressed up to celebrate Book Week. The costume ideas were amazing! Our assembly was followed by a Stop and Read whole school activity. I am sure the teachers and the students enjoyed the session which was organised by two of our PEAC students, Andy and Tyler. Congratulations boys on your timetabling and organisation of the event. Thank you to Mrs Santaromita who coordinated the assembly.

Evacuation Procedure Please do not panic when you hear the school siren sound continuously and all of the students evacuate the school next week. On Tuesday 30th August our school will run an evacuation exercise. NAPLAN Test Results The NAPLAN results for Year 3, 5 and 7 students who sat the tests this year should be available some time after Monday 12th September. Walking School Bus Our Walking School Bus has broken down. It should be up and running next term. Keeping Your Records Accurate There have been several times this week when someone from the school has tried to contact parents only to find contact details were inaccurate. Just yesterday we tried to ring the family of a student who was injured. We found that the home phone was disconnected and the father had changed his mobile number. The only number we had was a mobile that went straight to message bank. There were no other contacts listed on our data base. This situation highlighted the need to keep your contact details accurate. If your circumstances have changed make sure that we are informed so that amendments can be made to our database. Accurate contact details are vital. Chicken Pox I have been informed that there has been a suspected case of chicken pox in one of our Pre-primary classes. Although this is only a suspected case at this stage, in the West Australian Newspaper yesterday I read an article about the increased reporting of the disease in recent times. Chicken Pox is an acute, viral infection. Symptoms include fever, fatigue and a generalised rash characterised by small blisters that rupture to form crusts. Although this disease is described as common, pregnant women need to be aware. P&C Chess Game One of the many great initiatives undertaken by your P&C is the purchase of a large Chess game. This was a big hit with students on Tuesday. As you can see from the attached photo many students enjoyed competing against each other.

Bullying Prevention Assembly Today at our assembly we launched our Bullying Prevention Policy. TED, who “treats Everyone Decently”, and our Super Values Crusaders came to help us out! Thank you and congratulations Mrs Aldersea and LA 22, for your wonderful and dramatic presentation which demonstrated how we can stop bullying. Mrs Santaromita did a terrific job coordinating the assembly. To the parents and other family members who attended your support is valued and appreciated. The students loved TED joining them; he was the most cuddled bear in the world that day!

ESL COOKING CLASS

Thursday 11th August saw another fun morning for English Through Cooking. Mrs Matesic cooked yummy polenta bread with a mushroom sauce. While the parents were cooking we had a visit from the local paper who was very interested to see what we were doing at our school. Thank you to the parents who posed for the photographer to help showcase our school in the community! It was great to see so many ESL parents enjoying themselves!! The next English Through Cooking will be on Thursday 8th September. Hope to see you there! Sandra Santini ESL Teacher

JOIN US ON FACEBOOK! A Facebook page has been set up for parents and families of BPPS students. It’s a great tool to get up to date information about what’s happening in the P&C, around the school and for you to ask questions of other parents. We would love to have you join in. Search Facebook for Bletchley Park Primary School Family and Friends and join up. Some posts already on the page include help about what to wear for the Book Week Parade, second hand uniforms, parking petition and the P&C’s upcoming fete. This is not a school website and is not controlled by the school. It is set up by parents from the school. Inappropriate discussion such as posts about the merits of teachers or school policy will be removed by the administrators. DISCO-A-THON Well done and thanks to all who took part. Nearly $7,000 was raised which will go towards some great projects around the school. We are still getting money dropped into the P&C box, so the winners of the ‘Most Money Raised’ prizes will be announced soon! Congratulations to all the other winners on the day – there were some very groovy dancing and some very rad outfits! It was also great to see the teachers and Mr Partington getting into the spirit! SCHOOL BANKING Every Wednesday and Thursday in the library – look for PAT the dog 8:00-8:25am sharp Reward – Term 3 : Lunchbox (10 tokens) Banker of the month Automatic entry every time you bank!
