CANTEEN IS CURRENTLY ONLY OPEN ON MONDAYS, WEDNESDAYS AND FRIDAYS
Dear Parents and Friends, This week we welcome our new volunteer from Ningbo, Miss Lin. She joins Mr Liao on Wednesdays and will soon join Miss Penhall and Mr Liao in teaching Mandarin to our students. We are very lucky to be part of this great Western Sydney regional program. I am sure that our students will make Miss Lin most welcome. Over the next weeks we will see quite a few little visitors in our school as our preschool visits start in earnest as part of our Transition to School Program. Thank you to Miss Thomas and the Kinder teachers for organising this program with our nearby preschools including Playdays, Scribbles and Dimples. As well as the preschool visits our Kinder teachers will open their classrooms to teachers from other schools for “learning walks”. As a Best Start Lighthouse school, our teachers will conduct demonstration lessons which highlight quality teaching strategies with a focus on numeracy. Visiting teachers will have a pre and post lesson briefing with our teachers to reflect on the students’ learning and the teaching strategies highlighted. While this recognises the great work undertaken by our teachers, it also creates additional work for them as well as plying their trade in front of colleagues. I am very proud of our Kinder teachers: Miss Thomas, Mrs Shorten and Miss Vernon and their leader, Mrs Stokes. Another teacher who has worked wonders this year is Mrs McCarthy. She has taken on the role of choir teacher which at this school is no small feat. In order to give as many students as possible a chance to participate in a choir, we are involved in three concerts: Bridges to Understanding, Hills Music Festival and Pulse. It is sometimes quite a juggling act to fit in practices and organise rehearsals and performances and Mrs McCarthy accomplishes it all. Who benefits? The kids. It is always such a thrill to see them performing on the big stage. Two other staff carrying out complex tasks this week are Mrs Shorten and Mr Brent who, as members of our OHS Committee have been developing our Emergency Management Plan. This is a huge undertaking which they are completing with style and vigour. Meanwhile, Mrs Burns keeps plugging away with eisteddfod rehearsals for individual students each morning before school. She doesn’t need to offer this service to students, but she does so in her own time without a second thought (along with after school T.O.M. and chess).

We have a truly great staff here at Ironbark Ridge Public School who work above and beyond expectations to create opportunities for your children. Next week is Education Week. We hope that parents will be able to join us for our Open Day and assembly on Wednesday or pop along to the Rouse Hill Town Centre to see many of our performance groups. Mrs Johnson has coordinated Education Week activities and the attached flyer is being sent home in hard copy as well. Regards,
Kerry Poole Principal

Kindy Swan Next week the children will be bringing home their homework folders. There is a note of explanation in the folder. The folder stays home for 2 weeks to be returned on Thursday 12th of August to be marked and new work to be inserted. Home readers are continuing, well done everyone for your enthusiasm in your reading endeavours.
Kindy Dance Group Busy, busy, busy – we will be having a dress rehearsal on Friday 30 th July starting at one o’clock. On Tuesday, your child needs to come to school in their dance costume and bring their school uniform. They are doing so well, congratulations Kindy Dance. Mrs Shorten
Stage 1 News All the students in Stage 1 have begun a very busy term 3. We will be going on two major excursions and will be having a visit from Farmer Scott. Our first excursion will be to visit the Coastal Environment Centre. Our second excursion will be to Tobruk Sheep Station at Maroota. Farmer Scott is a farmer from NSW. He encapsulates the theme of "living and farming in a more sustainable way". Children have the opportunity to:
• Feel wool straight from the shorn sheep, complete with burrs, dust and lanolin • Touch grains in their raw state, including wheat, barley and oats, while making links to foods currently available • Smell silage (drought fodder) • Touch animal skulls and guess the animal it came from • Touch and hear the crack of a stockwhip • Learn how to drench a sheep. As well as all the important work that we will be doing in the classroom and at our performances, we will also be working in our class vegetable gardens. There is a high expectation that each class will produce a number of fantastic vegetables which will be prepared, cooked and eaten by the children from each class. We are sure that Farmer Scott will be very impressed with our vegetable gardens. Stage 1 will continue learning to play the recorder this term. We are making such pleasing progress and are really starting to sound fantastic. Parents please make a note of all the important dates in your diary. There is so much happening this term that the children may not remember everything.
As a teacher I am impressed on a daily basis by the wonderful learning and work produced by the students in Stage 1. This work cannot be done without the support and amazing dedication of the teachers who give so much of their time to produce excellent learning opportunities for all students. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Miss Thomas for her dedication to teaching and we wish her all the very best as she moves towards a very exciting period in her life. Mrs Kerry De Jager Assistant Principal

Our last Trivia Night in 2008, was a huge success and a sellout!
We had a wonderful turn out of 120 mums, dads, teachers, office ladies, partners & friends, who had a fantastic night out “showing us what they know”!!
We’re sure the teachers will be doing their best to regain their “Winners” title, after being “de throned” in 2008!
There will be great giveaways, fantastic raffle items, and halftime fun & games to try your luck at!!
Tables will consist of 810 people, but if you haven’t got a full table, or are just a couple, we can easily arrange other smaller groups to be added to yours, no problem at all!!
It will be held in our Assembly Hall, and there will be a limited number of tables – so it’s best to get organised and order your tickets early to avoid disappointment!
We are getting prize donations together so if you run your own business, or know of anyone who is interested in promoting their business name – Ironbark would be very grateful of any donations of products or services, which could be given away or raffled, on the night. Your business name would then be included in our Sponsor Acknowledgements. Or if you are an individual family who would like to donate a gift voucher or prize etc, (no matter how small) … please send them our way ….!!
Please contact Jacqii Pilarski (mob. 0410 678 867), or email [email protected] with any offers of help, or prize donations.
Your help will really contribute to the success of a great night not to be missed!!
Thanks again for all your support ☺
Have a fantastic weekend!

Forms will be sent home this coming Monday – so keep a lookout!
We are offering you this fantastic opportunity to purchase a personalised engraved paver, to be cemented in the Ironbark Ridge Walk of Fame!!
Imagine your child’s pride and excitement with seeing their own name as part of the bricks and mortar of the wonderful school they attend every day ☺
Families and staff can purchase one of two options:
SINGLE NAME PAVER – this paver will detail your child’s name, the year and grade they started at our school.
Eg:
“ARMANDO COLOSIMO KINDERGARTEN
2006”.
The cost is $30 for the first paver, and $25 for each additional.
FAMILY DOUBLE PAVER This is an ideal option for the families who do not wish to purchase multiple pavers. However, all children need to have already started at Ironbark, as these pavers can’t be added to in future years. These pavers are headed with your Family name at the top and list all children underneath with their start year.
Eg: “LATHAMCALLCOTT GABRIELLA 2006 OLIVIA 2008”

Understanding & Managing Depression & Bipolar Disorder
Mood Disorders affect 1 in 5 Australians. If you or anyone you know has Depression &/or Bipolar Disorder I encourage you to come along & get a better understanding of these illnesses & how you can manage them. I am a volunteer for the Black Dog Institute & will be running the presentation. I proudly work with the institute to raise awareness for Mental Health & to reduce the stigma that is associated with Mental Illness. The Black Dog Institute resources help me and my family so much with my Melancholic Depression; I hope that this presentation can shed some light on a subject that is just not talked about enough. The presentation is free of charge. Should you have any questions feel free to ask me, Amy Watts, email: [email protected] or check out the website www.blackdoginstitute.org.au
