Each one of them has done his best and has matured into confident and responsible young men. They are leaving Lighthouse School with skills that equip them to continue on their journey of being independent, responsible, and productive members of society. Lewin Solomon: LIGHTHOUSE SCHOOL GRADUATES Lighthouse School supports our Community! Earth Day/ Dress Down Day - Funds donated to National Trust Stride against Cancer Walk- Funds donated to the Cancer Society. Feed-our-Future/Dress Down Day - Funds donated to Feed-our- Future Organization Lewin has been with the school since 2009. In that time he has grown into a mature and independent young man. He takes part in the Special Olympics participating in track and field events. He has also completed a very successful work experience as a bag packer with Fosters. We wish Lewin the best of luck in the future and will miss his funny jokes and superb dance moves in the classroom! Jamar Timothy: Jamar came to us in 2006. Jamar has grown up to be a mature and responsible young man. During his time here he has made everyone so proud winning a bronze medal for Cayman on the Basketball team for the Special Olympics in LA in 2015. He has also received great feedback from the work experience he has completed in The Westin and Red Sail this year. We wish Jamar the best of luck in the future and will miss Jamar’s amusing insights on life in the classroom. Junior Peart: Junior started in the Lighthouse School in 2007. Over the years Junior has developed into a more mature and responsible young man. Junior made everyone extremely proud when he won a bronze medal for Cayman Islands in the Special Olympics in LA in 2015. Junior has successfully completed work placement in the Humane Society and Wise Auto this year. We wish Junior the best of luck in the future and we will miss Junior’s shining personality in the classroom. Arley Swaby: Arley started at the Lighthouse School in 2003. Arley has great artistic abilities. He enjoys reading and his favorite series is “Diary of a Whimpy Kid”. He works well on the computer and likes to research on the internet. Arley is a participant in Special Olympics. He takes part in track and field and swimming. In the future Arley hopes to develop on his artistic skills. Rashane Kirchman: Rashane started at the Lighthouse School in September 2004. Rashane likes music. Students who participated in the Inter-Primary Championships had the opportunity of a life time when they got to meet Usain Bolt during an interactive Instrumental Music Programme producing budding musicians! Through the generous donation of the Home School Association, the school received an array of different instruments including Concert flutes, Bb Clarinets, Eb Alto- Saxophones, Bb Tenor Saxophone, Bb Trumpet, Electric Guitar Fender Bass Guitar, Keyboard and Recorders last September. Over the year, the students in the instrumental music programme have developed their skills including how to assembly and dissemble their instruments, how to properly hold their instrument, and how to produce C, D, E, F and G on their instrument. Lewin Solomon:

Lewin has been with the school since 2009. In that time he has grown into a mature and independent young man. He takes part in the Special Olympics participating in track and field events. Rashane started at the Lighthouse School in September 2004. Rashane likes music. Rashane likes to be involved in everything that is happening around him. His favorite subject is Language. Being at The Lighthouse School has helped him to gain self-confidence and to develop more self-awareness.

Home School Association donates to the AAC

Communication Initiative

Mr. Gerald Joseph, Home School

Association President present 13 IPads to Ms. Diane Johnstone, Speech Therapist. As part of the Augmentative and Alternative Communication Initiative at Lighthouse, these IPads will be utilized as communication devices by students identified as benefiting from a high-tech, voice output communication system and will be implemented in the new school year.

Students who participated in the

Inter-Primary Championships had the opportunity of a life time when they got to meet Usain Bolt during an interactive session at Camana Bay. The students were very excited and meeting Mr. Bolt has motivated them to continue to do their best!

Instrumental Music Programme producing

Through the generous donation of

the Home School Association, the school received an array of different instruments including Concert flutes, Bb Clarinets, Eb Alto-Saxophones, Bb Tenor Saxophone, Bb Trumpet, Electric Guitar Fender Bass Guitar, Keyboard and Recorders last September. Over the year, the students in the instrumental music programme have developed their skills including how to assembly and dissemble their instruments, how to properly hold their instrument, and how to produce C, D, E, F and G on their instrument. Two of the students, Jaryed Myles and Katherine Klienworth also participated in the NCFA and was awarded Silver and a Bronze respectively. A Lighthouse School Band made up of 14 students has also been formed and meets as an ensemble to practice weekly. Thanks to music teachers Mr. Hemans and Ms. Linguard for working with the students who look forward to music every week!

Once the school receives additional days of music education, the goal is for the Programme to expand and include more students.

YOUNG CAYMANIAN KATELYN BUSH FOLLOWS HER DREAMS!

Ms. Katelyn started working at Lighthouse School last year September. Ms. Katelyn is a very intelligent

and professional young lady who has a passion and love for children and during the year has demonstrated that she has the potential to be a great teacher! Ms. Katelyn is going off to Indiana Wesleyan University to pursue her dream of becoming a qualified teacher and we take this opportunity to wish Ms. Katelyn all the best! In her own words:“Being employed as an assistant teacher at the Lighthouse School has transformed me professionally and personally. Through professional development trainings, a supportive and skilled staff and senior management and the wonderful students of LHS, my passion, knowledge and skills have blossomed. I feel confident and equipped to further my career as a secondary school teacher in mainstream, and to continue volunteering for Special Olympics as working with persons with disabilities have become a passion of mine. I will ever be grateful for this life-changing experience.”

ROTARACT - IMPACT DAY PROJECT Thanks to 40 Rotaracts from around the region who are in Cayman for the Rotaract District Conference, and Rotarians from Rotary Central , Lighthouse School playground equipment for our students with physical limitations was beautified and refurbished, on June 10th as part of the Impact Day Project!
