What a busy year so far for the SCC. Students at Capt. Michael
VandenBoshave been enjoying pizza lunches and yummy popcorn snacks.
They'vesigned the 10th year anniversary plane quilt, raised a
mountain of toys,submitted recipes and recipe book covers, enjoyed
a family pizza night andhad the chance to see an Oshawa Generals
Game as a group... and it's onlyFebruary!!
Monies raised have been allocated so far to: School Focus Groups
Literacy (classroom libraries), Numeracy,
Technology (E.L.M.O. cameras & data projectors), Safe
Schools (anti-
bullying programs) and Co-curricular (Phys. Ed /Music) Racing
Against Drugs
Teacher Appreciation Day
Durham Police Toy Drive
Athletic Dept.
O Ambassador Auction Donation
Volunteer Police Checks
Pizza Count and Pizza DeliveryEvery month volunteers help count
and total all the pizza lunch orders on countdays and also help
deliver the pizza on the lunch days. Remaining Pizza Days are:
Pizza Count: February 10 - March 8 April 7 May 5 & June

Field Trips
POP, POP, POPCORN!!Students, staff and visitors know when it's
Popcorn Day at VandenBos as soonas they walk in the front doors!! A
BIG hit with the kids. Lots of fun is had byall while popping the
popcorn, delivering to the classroom, counting all thequarters and
finally the draw to announce the winner of the free popcorn
fortheir class! There are 3 remaining Popcorn Days this year:
February 17 April 27 - May 26
November 17th Popcorn Day Toy Drive/FundraiserWe received
approximately 151 toys and purchased lots more toys, diapers
andinfant clothing with the money raised from popcorn day ($329)
and theDomino's Family Pizza Night ($375). All proceeds went to the
Durham PoliceToy Drive. A big THANK YOU to the community for all
that was donated!
10th Anniversary Plane QuiltThis past October, all students and
staff signed the banner that is now hanging withthe anniversary
quilt. A second lap quilt was raffled off and Victoria Fong in
Mrs.Lyon's class was the lucky winner. Be sure to check it out
located in the displaycase outside the library.
Helping in the Classroom
Spirit Days Are Back!Last month, in conjunction with the
Athletic Dept.,Spirit Days made a big return with PJ/ PancakeDay.
These days are a great way to show someschool spirit and have lots
of fun. New this year isadding Lunch Lady Fun Lunches to make the
dayseven more cheerful. Mark your calendars for:
