Wishing trees have been a part of various traditions, from

Hindus tying threads on a tree with a hope of their wishes

being fulfilled or tying knots on trees of temple courtyards

by Japanese. Taking inspiration from various customs and

traditions, Wish Tree event was organized aimed at fulfilling

wishes of the orphan and destitute children within our

community who seldom have the pleasure of receiving gifts.

Two orphanages, Bal Gokulum and Don Bosco Snehalaya

were approached and Christmas or Wishing tree was put up

in each orphanage. The children were asked to pen their

wishes on a piece of paper and hang it on the tree. Gifts were

bought according to their wishes and then distributed. The

wish list of the children included items such as Cream, Hair

Oil, Shampoo, Watches and various other items for their

daily needs.

The celebration was organized on 29th and 30th December

2014. The children of the orphanage, the staff and the team

of United Way of Baroda along with volunteers were a part of

this celebration. Recreational games were played and the

winners were given prizes. Light refreshments were also

given to them. The children were happily surprised when

they were distributed the gifts that they had wished for.

Gold Card Scheme – Golden Services at your doorstep

Senior Citizens possess a vast experience in different walks of life. Their contribution in guiding the youth and children is invaluable. Our society should support them in living a dignified life. United Way of Baroda’s Gold Card Scheme is supporting them for spending the rest of the life hassle free and in peace. Standing for long hours in never-ending queues to pay bills and seeking out appointments for their deteriorating health related concerns at hospitals makes the life of senior citizens difficult, particularly those who live by themselves and have no one to run errands. To address these needs of the elderly, a golden thought for the aged, a scheme called the “Gold Card” was launched by United Way of Baroda. Currently, 662 senior citizens are availing the services under this project. The following services are provided:

Way of Baroda to undertake CSR activity in Vadodara. Two projects were supported under the CSR

partnership.

¥ Knee and Hip Replacement Surgeries for Needy Patients

¥ R.O. and Water Cooler Installation at Municipal Corporation Schools

persons suffering from osteoarthritis. Nine needy

individuals suffering from knee or hip problems were

supported under this project. These persons were

provided implants for the surgeries undertaken at Sir

Sayajirao General Hospital and also supported for their

physiotherapy sessions. The surgery and regular exercise

enabled them to function normally without any physical

handicap. To ensure a healthy recovery the staff of United

Way of Baroda has monitored the project minutely

through regular home visits to patients and follow ups with the doctor and physiotherapists. All the

patients have recovered and have resumed their respective work with ease due to the support from

KOCH-GLITSCH of INR 458,903.

Safe drinking water is the basic need of every individual.

The children studying in municipal corporation schools

are most vulnerable to water borne diseases. A total of 16

schools were supported under the project wherein Reverse

Osmosis systems and Water Coolers were installed. The

facility was provided to 15 municipal corporation schools

in Vadodara city and one school in Savli. United Way of

Baroda’s staff monitored the installation work. Awareness

generation programs were also conducted in all the schools

on importance of safe drinking water and to motivate the

children to avoid wastage and maintain the systems. Through KOCH-GLITSCH’s support of INR
