ITK Basketball participants were happy to find top-level matches on their excursion schedule: The coaches went to see a Champions League match (Brose Bamberg vs. BC Lietkabelis) and a Bundesliga match between Mitteldeutscher Basketballclub and FC Bayern. The trip to ALBA BERLIN offered insights into the work of a successful Basketball club and the ALBA BERLIN COLLEGE. On this occasion, ITK Basketball and Sports Management students had the opportunity to present the Basketball systems of their countries. Also, ITK Basketball students were referees in the “Jugend

trainiert für Olympia” city final. (Photo: Simone Zimmermann)

Participants of the ITK Handball course had the opportunity to participate in numerous events, while the focus lay on youth Handball. They organised and executed the ALLIANZ elementary school league, conducted P.E. classes for the 1st classes of the Lessing Grundschule Leipzig and led the Mini match operations in the Leipzig handball district. They also accompanied the training of the SC DHfK and HC Leipzig junior teams and supported the Saxon Handball Association in conducting the sports aptitude tests to the Sportgymnaiusm Leipzig, a sports school.

Two friendly games against the SC DHfK sponsoring team, a trip to Oschatz for the selection of the district teams of the Saxon Handball Association, watching home matches of the SC DHfK Leipzig and HC Leipzig as well as the integration of two ITK participants in the men’s team of Germania Zwenkau allowed for great insights into the local Handball system.

Students of the ITK Table Tennis course also were involved in youth sports and supervised the training camps of the LTTV Leutzscher Füchse 1990 e.V., the TeTaKo table tennis school and the SG Marbach 1910 e.V. Table tennis participants also enjoyed trips to the Saxon ranking tournament and the top-24 national ranking tournament for pupils and youth. (Photo: Petra Riedinger)

Excursions and Projects

The cultural highlights of every semester are the trip of all ITK participants to Germany’s capital Berlin and the reception in Leipzig’s New Town Hall. In addition, the participants have the opportunity to attend and analyse live sporting events of various competition classes during field-specific excursions and by actively participating.

A multitude of regional clubs for canoeing, judo, wresting, fin swimming, handball and athletics opened their doors for the ITK Conditioning Coach course and allowed them to shadow training sessions combined with sports-specific evaluation. The coaches also attended and analysed conditional requirements of Bundesliga matches in Football (RB Leipzig), Handball (SC DHfK) and Basketball (MBC).

For the first time ever, ITK Sport Management students did not only organize the ITK International Sports Festival for students but also for pupils of the Lessingschule Leipzig. The new cooperative project excited pupils and teachers of the elementary school alike. The trip to the Sportpark Rabenberg was combined with a visit of the Eliteschule des Sports in Oberwiesenthal, a guided tour of the Erzgebirgsstadion and the Youth Training Centre of the FC Erzgebirge Aue e.V. Together with ITK Basketball students, ITK sport managers visited ALBA BERLIN for a seminar on

Basketball structures worldwide, which was attended by ALBA BERLIN Vice President Henning Harnisch and the ALBA BERLIN COLLEGE Commercial Director Daniel Endres. The seminar took place in the halls of the University of Applied Sciences Europe (UE) thanks to Prof. Dr. Stefan Chatrath (guest speaker and programme director of the University of Applied Sciences Europe). We would like to give special thanks to our partner organisations for their continued support and cooperation that allow our students to get insights into club structures and competition systems but also give them the opportunity to put into practice methods acquired in classes, e.g. during shadowing sessions and friendly matches.
