Excursions

Additionally to our Berlin trip with all participants, the individual groups in the context of extracurricular activities again had the chance to experience top-class sports and to visit institutions working in the respective fields of sport.

ITK Track and Field made trips to the Thrower’s Days in Halle, the International Track and Field Meeting in Dessau and the German Championships in Erfurt. The excursion schedule for ITK Football contained matches of the first division team RB Leipzig, while ITK Sports for the Disabled travelled to Koblenz to attend the IWRF Wheelchair

Rugby European Championships, played a match against the sitting volleyball team of the Disabled Sports Club Leipzig and had the chance to visit an orthoses and prostheses manufacturer in Leipzig. The conditioning coaches went to the headquarter of the CityBootCamp as well as to the track and field club Eilenburger Land e.V. Additionally, they made an excursion to Eibenstock where they learned about possible team building challenges and methods. The sports managers had the chance to visit the sports park Rabenberg inorder to experience ideal structures of a training camp for youth and senior athletes as well as professionals.

Participation in the German University Track and Field Championships

ITK participants Asmaa Mohamed Gharib, Egyptian triple jumper and national record holder, and Iraqi hurdler Safaa Al-Abboodi represented the University of Leipzig at this year’s German University Track and Field Championships in Kassel where they competed against the student track and field elite. The German University Champion-ships are the flag ship of university sports on a national level. Both ITK athletes reached the finals; Asmaa Gharib was ranked 4th, Safaa Al-Abboodi came in 7th.

Cooperations

The cooperation between ITK and several clubs in Leipzig as well as Saxon sports federations and organisations is elementary for a successful further education. However, not only ITK students benefit from such a sportive, scientific and cultural exchange. It also entails high potential for all the sports clubs involved, and enriches the sports landscape of Leipzig: The cooperation offers clubs the possibility to get in contact with foreign athletes and organisations, and to form partnerships with international federations and clubs. One example is the long-term cooperation between ITK and LTTV Leutzscher Füchse e.V. (table tennis club) that is shown in a short film.

Cooperation partners for the current semester have been for example: SC DHfK (handball), SG Motor Gohlis-Nord Leipzig e.V., Institute for Applied Training Science (IAT), Judoclub Leipzig e.V., SG LVB e.V., RB Leipzig (football), Saxon Football Federation, Rehasport Leipzig e.V. (rehab sports) as well as Behindertensport Leipzig e.V. (sports for the disabled).

Project Support by DOSB

How do the structures of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) look like? How to initiate sports projects (short-term or long-term projects) abroad? And which possibilities for grants do exist? Lisa Meier, Consultant for International Sports Support at DOSB, answered those questions when visiting ITK this summer. Additionally, alumni of ITK have the chance to hand in their project proposals to DOSB to apply for support. DOSB supports projects in countries listed on the DAC list of OECD.Contact Lisa Meier: [email protected].
