    Important info...

Dear Members and Friends of DFC,

I miss and love you. That was a text I received at 11:29am on Monday. It was from mywonderful daughter, Shawna, who is finishing up her senior year in high school whileliving with her grandparents in Visalia. We have been receiving these types of messagequite frequently since we have been separated from her. I looked at it and yet did notrespond to it until much later in the day. I felt bad when I finally responded, yet her repwas with kindness and love. I hope you dont think I am a bad father; other things justgot in the way that day. You can say it; I am thinking it right now, What a loser!

I am reminded of our Father in Heaven and how He must feel at times as He sends us

messages of love and yet we barely acknowledge His grace. Though, once we finallyget around to it, He, like Shawna, doesnt rebuke or say well its about time. He simpsays, I love you too! Thats the way He is. He often waits in the shadows of our life, while we allow other things to crowd out His message and His Presence. He so wants tobe with us. He wants to walk with us and to share His love with us. He simply wants to bewith us!

I am thinking of you and your life today. With my daughter, I allowed other issues tocrowd out what was more important. I should have responded to this message of lovefrom her sooner. Maybe you have allowed other things to get in the way of the most

important relationship you have. You may have things to do, projects to complete, afamily to raise and career to build. These are important, just not as important as puttingJesus Christ first in our lives. The good news is that He waits with patience. When we dostep into grace and say I am sorry, God, you are most important in my life, He simplysays Welcome home! I am so glad you are here.

My friends, dont neglect whats most important. Take time today to respond to this Goof grace. His name is Jesus! He is mighty to save! He is waiting today!

May the God of grace bless you today!

    Pastor Shawn

    News Update

Board perspective...Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Tuesday of this week, the Board had our first meeting of 2010. Pastor is becomingbetter acquainted with our congregation and community, and he continues tounfold ideas on how he would like to approach various ministries. A few changehave already been implemented and several more will be rolled out in the weeand months ahead. Some of us will take the changes in stride, while others mayfeel an uneasiness as "the familiar" becomes a little less so in certain areas. That perfectly natural. All we can ask of you is to be patient and trust that eachadjustment is weighed against the measure of how it will increase our outreachto the lost and more effectively disciple the saved.

I wrote down a challenge Pastor gave on Sunday and placed it in my Bible tosee each morning. It simply reads, "Every day do something sacrificial for othersthis week." It seems simple enough. Yet it seems this week has been packed withmore pressures and "stuff" than the typical week. I look back on the days alreadpassed and I'm hard-pressed to identify anything truly sacrificial I've done foranyone so far. So much for goal setting!

Maybe the tendency to stay in that deep rut in which our lives run is exactly thereason there is such a strong emphasis in the Word for us to be different. I like the

way Romans 12:1-2 from Sunday's sermon is rendered in The Message:

...Take your everyday, ordinary lifeyour sleeping, eating, going-to-work,and walking-around lifeand place it before God as an offering.Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it withouteven thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You'll be changed fromthe inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quicklyrespond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to

its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formedmaturity in you.

In Ephesians 4:22-24 Paul reiterates this idea. He says I must "put on" the new meIn other words, it requires a deliberate action on my part. I know it seems difficulat times. But Galatians 6:9 urges us on, telling us not to become weary doinggood. For at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

    Serving Him Alongside of You,
