A Word From Warren

GOD BLESS YOU DALLAS FIRST UMC!

Church Family of Dallas First, it has been an honor to be

your pastor for the past four years. God has blessed us in

many ways, but mostly we have been blessed by God’s

love shown through our church family. Many of you have

become very dear to our hearts. The prayers and under-

standing you have given us as we have dealt with Camilla’s

cancer and my hospitalization were truly heartfelt. Camilla

is still having infusions to try and raise her immune system

and will have had six or seven treatments when she is fin-

ished. Thank you for your continued prayers. The ladies in

the Prayer Shawl group have become her close friends and

she will miss you very much.

It has been a joy to work with the church staff. They take

their jobs seriously and work to bring glory to God. They

work with the church family and God blesses the church

working through them.

Camilla and I look forward to hearing of greater ministry

and more growth in the Spirit as you continue your work

for God’s glory here at Dallas First.

With the coming of a new pastor, I ask you to please sup-

port him and his family with your prayers. Our prayers

will be with you and may God bless you always.

Your Brother in Christ,

Warren

Please be in prayer for

the children, volunteers,

and staff during our up-

coming Vacation Bible

School June 5-9.

Thank you for your service in

the Acolyte Ministry! We have had the pleasure of watching these 8 acolytes bring forth the Light each Sunday. Some have served for over 3 years! These young men and ladies will be missed as Acolytes! Please wish them well in their "retirement"!

Ella Pavlovsky, Tucker Bradley, Erica Gozdick,

Claire Wahle, Harrison Nesbit, Blair Huddleston,

Olivia Wallace, and Connor Sherrill.

We are in need of more Acolytes now! Traditionally aco-

lytes are rising 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. However, if your

rising 1st or 2nd grader is responsible and can sit still for

an hour, they are welcome to join us! If your son or

daughter would be interested in being an acolyte please

contact Lisa Wahle at 678-910-6917, or

[email protected].

Farewell to My Friend By Debaree Pereira

For those of you who don’t know me, I am the church administrative assistant at Dallas First UMC. I have been here 11 ½ years. I love this church and staff. You all are a part of my family and I am blessed to work at Dallas First! I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to my supervisor and friend Pastor Warren. Warren has been such a blessing to me in both my work life and personal life. During the time we have worked together, he has seen me through many hard-ships and successes in my life. I know that he prays for me and my family along with so many others at DFUMC. Do you remember when he first came to Dallas First, him asking for you all to put the name of you and your family on an index card? Just know, I have seen him in his office many times praying individually over these cards. I have witnessed him be a blessing to many he has visited in the hospital, gone to lunch with, or just those who have stopped by the church office to talk. He has shared his gift of encouragement and has shared God’s perspective on life with those hurting, broken, and without hope. Thank you Pastor Warren for your friendship, guidance, wisdom and understanding through the years. I especially thank you for your prayers. Please pray for Pastor Warren, Camilla, and their family as God leads them to the next step in their life’s journey.

“Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you.

Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.”

Wear Red on June 4 for Pentecost

June 4 is Pentecost Sunday,

the Christian Holy Day commemorat-

ing 50 days after Easter when the

Holy Spirit descended upon the disci-

ples, and the beginning of the Chris-

tian church. The biblical account is

in Acts Chapter 2 where you’ll find

rushing wind, tongues of fire, people

speaking languages they didn’t know

a few minutes earlier, false accusa-

tions of drunkenness, a little history lesson, signs and wonders,

prophecies fulfilled, and 3000 converts in one day!

Key verses are Acts 1:8 (“…when the Holy Spirit has

come upon you, you will receive power and will tell people

about Me everywhere…”), and Acts 2:3-4 (“…what looked

like tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them, and

everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began

speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this

ability.”)Since red is the color symbolizing Pentecost, let’s all

wear red that day to remind us of the fire of the Holy Spirit,

and to celebrate the good news that “the Word of the Lord is

for everybody!” (See Acts 10:34-48.)

BEREAVEMENT FOOD MINISTRY We here at Dallas First United Methodist Church have a long history of providing a meal to families who have lost a loved one. This is an important part of who and what we feel is an important part of our church. I would like to thank Jeanne Shipp for her many years being part of and serving as chairman of this commit-tee. She took over this job from Shirley McKinney at least twelve years ago. I cannot tell you how many meals have been provided during those twelve years but I do know that Jeanne has been such a gracious rep-resentative of our church during this time when families are grieving. So THANK YOU JEANNE.

I am sure we have all heard the term “it takes a village”. Well it takes a “caring congregation” to provide meals for these families during their time of grief. We do have a set menu for these meals and we ask church members to provide items for these occasions either by preparing a dish or making a contribution to our food fund. I know there are many people in our church who do not know that we provide these meals for families and well felt some of you might like to take part in this ministry. So please give the church a call if you would like to be on our committee. Thank you, Carol Barber & Becky Lillard

BINGO THURSDAY, JUNE 15!

LOVE OFFERING FOR THE HUDDLESTONS

The Church is taking up a “love offering” for Warren

and Camilla. These gifts will have to be given to the

Church by June 4 so they can be presented to them on

June 11 at the luncheon. Please make your checks

payable to DFUMC and in the memo section of the

check, write “Pastor’s Love Offering.” Please be

aware, these donations will be taxed accordingly by

law, and they will be included on your 2017 contribu-

tion statement. If you would like your love offering

to go directly to the Warren and Camilla without be-

ing taxed, then make your checks payable to “Warren

& Camilla Huddleston.” You can mail your gift di-

rectly to their home, hand it directly to them at

church, or drop it by the church office. Their home

address is 171 Blackberry Run Trail, Dallas, GA

RIVER OF LIFE VISITATION OPPORTUNITY

River of Life is coming up on June 21-25. We have the opportunity again this

year to speak with clients, fellowship with them, listen to prayer concerns and

other needs. But most importantly, be the hands and feet of Jesus with each and

every one we come in contact with during this awesome local mission. Anyone

in our church can do visitation, not just Pastors, Laity, or Stephen Minis-

ters. We are all His children, and our charge is to go to all the ends of the earth

and make disciples. What do you ask or talk about? Pray before you go and

introduce yourself, listen to what the Lord may be telling you, and then open the

conversation with a simple "Hello, I am .... from Dallas 1st UMC and wanted to

see how you are doing today. May I come and visit with you for a bit?" Or

something to that effect. Ask how they heard about River of Life, and the con-

versation will roll easily from that point on. You may visit for 5 minutes or 30

minutes, just play it by ear. If they are comfortable ask if you may close in

prayer at the end of your visit. If you would like to and are able to help with

visitation this year please contact Lisa Wahle at 678-910-6917 or

[email protected]. We go out in teams of 2. You can volunteer 1 day, all

three days, half a day, or anything in between. If there is someone you would

like to do visitation with please let me know that as well.

Blessings,

Lisa Wahle
