Heather has booked a house at Lake Moogerah. The question was asked if people could bring their campers/caravans to the property. Heather will make the enquiry. The walks for Easter will be Wilsons Peak and Mt Greville

Sue asked for comments on walks over the past few weeks. Everyone agreed that even though hot and humid, good numbers were in attendance at each walk and enjoyed by all. Karen said that Egg Rock, done on Sunday 7th March was an exhilirating day, with everyone abseiling down

Queen’s Birthday camp weekend was decided to be held at Emu Creek. This is a wilderness camp with only water available there. 4WD is essential with 14 creek crossings on the way in. Walks to be done in this area are the Steamers and the Lincoln Wreck. The weekend will be from Friday 5th to Monday 8th

Goomburra was suggested as an alternate camp if anyone is interested

(Councillor) Don Petersen called in to say hello and find out what our Club was about. He stayed for the meeting but not for supper, having other venues still to visit

Peter commented on temperatures in Victoria, saying the Alpine Walk was going to be very cold. Peter has offered to transport any goods or equipment to Victoria, as he is driving

Christmas in July is going to be held on Saturday 1st August at Christmas Creek Café & Cabins. The menu in last month’s newsletter will change as it will be a menu for cold weather. The cost is $65 per person, but this will be subsidised by the Club. Not sure of how much yet. Suggested walks for the weekend are: Stinson Wreck, Larapinta Falls or Westrays Grave

The March dinner will be held at 6:30 pm on Friday 20th , at Yarra House (near Yarrabilba). Please let Sue know by Monday 16th March if you will be attending

Heather will coordinate the April dinner, which will be held on Friday 24th April

The walk for Saturday 14th March has been changed to Mt Tamborine. Sue is the coordinator. Meeting at the Bearded Dragon at 7am

Bunnings have not given us a date for a sausage sizzle. Only that it will be in the second half of the year

The Kokoda Challenge will be held on the 25th March. As yet the Club has no money to contribute to the funding of the event. The group is training hard every weekend, around 5-7 hours, and are up to 40km

Suggestion was made that Masters may do sausage sizzled

Heather had a phone call from Ian who is one of the Rangers for Plunkett Reserve. A meeting will be held at the Cedar Creek Hall, on Wednesday 18th March, at 5:30. The meeting is to discuss the development and use of the reserve. Information will be forwarded by Heather when she has received it from Ian. Sue and Dave indicated that they would attend

Don Petersen advised that “Chicks with Cancer” are doing a charity run in Plunkett on Sunday 12th April. There will be a 5km and 10km run if anyone is interested

“Warning”

A Poem by Jenny Joseph (born in 1932) - submitted by Heather

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple

With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me.

And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves

And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.

I shall sit down on the pavement when I’m tired

And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells

And run my stick along the public railings

And make up for the sobriety of my youth.

I shall go out in my slippers in the rain

And pick flowers in other people’s gardens

And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat

And eat three pounds of sausages at a go

Or only bread and pickle for a week

And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry

And pay our rent and not swear in the street

And set a good example for the children.

We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?

So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised

When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.
