Dear Parents/Carers and Community Members

Edu Dance in Term 1

Thank you to the P&C for partially funding this program again this year. As we saw last year, Edu Dance is an exciting and fun program for all students. All classes use the undercover area to participate during their scheduled session each Monday. Whilst it is not compulsory, students who do not participate will be following their regular class program. Consent forms have gone home last week and payment is due ASAP.

Change to Excursion Procedures

Please be aware that this year, we will no longer accept consent forms or payment for excursions on the day of the excursion. It must be finalised before the date, and where possible completed by the due date on every consent form. In the past, it has caused a lot of issues with students not paying for an excursion, but still attending or not having the correct permission forms completed. If it’s the payment that is of concern, we are more than happy to help with payment plans, but this must be discussed with the front office before the excursion date.

School Board Parent Nomination

I encourage any parent to nominate themselves for the School Board. There are 4 positions available. Two positions are for a term of two years and the other two positions are for a term of three years. The Marangaroo Primary School Board is the peak advisory and decision making body of the school. Formed with parents in the majority, the Board is comprised of parents, staff and community representatives who ensure good school governance. A nomination form is included with this newsletter, or available from the front office. If you have any queries, please email [email protected]. Nominations close at 3pm on Tuesday 25 March.

Parking

If you are driving to school, please park along Addington Way or utilise the golf course carpark. The staff carpark is for staff and visitors to the school. I have noticed an increase in the number of parents using the staff carpark, leaving our staff without somewhere to park.

Crosswalk

If you are walking or riding to school, please remember to use the crosswalk. Not only because it is safer, but also because we are being monitored for usage. If students don’t use it, we could lose our crosswalk attendant.

Excess School Furniture

Before we offer it to other organisations to re-use, I welcome parents and any community members to have a look at the excess furniture we have and if you would like any of the items, please talk to the front office to arrange collection. Furniture is located in two places. The undercover area and the old basketball court in front of the Science block. Items include- desks, chairs, stools, pin up boards, tables, bookcases etc. A gold coin donation is all that is required to secure your selection.

Contact Details

Please ensure you advise the front office if your phone number or email address has changed. Phone numbers are vital in the case of an emergency or illness with your child. We will also be utilising communication via email more frequently this year.

I wish you all a great start to the school year and I look forward to meeting everyone throughout the year.

CHAPLAIN’S CORNER

Hello MPS Community. It is great to start the school year. I am looking forward to seeing you all at the Parent Welcome Night and Community BBQ tomorrow night.

Chaplain room has moved! Now in C2, next to Echidnas. Come and pop in and see the new space.

Thursday Lunch times

I will continue the Thursday lunch time program during Term One. The plan is a focus on “Sometimes You Win Sometimes You Learn.” A Children’s book based on a book by John C Maxwell. There will be games, activities and plenty of time for friendship and fun.

Student and Family Support

As the School Chaplain I am always available to support individual students and families as required with social and emotional, family, school or home transition concerns. The best way to access me currently is by speaking with your child’s classroom Teacher or through Student Services Team in Admin.

Food Bank (emergency food) and GiveWrite (stationery requirements)

These two agencies support those who might be having a tough start to the year with practical needs. If you would like more information, please feel free to contact me.

All the best for a great term.

Tammy Bija Chaplain Thursday and Friday

Thank you to the parents who attended the Parent Orientation on Friday 31 January. We had 18 parents attend which was wonderful.

If you were unable to attend and would like a copy of the items discussed, please email me:

[email protected]

Day one saw lots of excited students catching up with old friends and learning about new class members. Our focus is on ‘Caring for ourselves’, ‘Caring for others’ and ‘Caring for the Environment’.

On Wednesday March 11 there is a free one-day workshop on autism for teachers & parents/carers, provided by Positive Partnerships. We are able to send a team, comprising one teacher, 2 parents/carers and myself. If you are interested in being a parent representative I would love to hear from you.
