Dear Parents and Carers,

The May half term is upon us and so is the fine weather. Long may it last.

I start this newsletter sharing some sad news by announcing the departure of Miss Ilsley at the end of this academic year. Many of you will know that Miss Ilsley started her teaching career in the Foundation Stage. She briefly worked at Hatton Special School before return to Chadwell as a SENCo. During her time, Miss Ilsley has developed positive working relationships with parents especially when having those difficult conversations due to her role of SENCo and Designated Child Protection Officer. Miss Ilsley will be greatly missed by pupils, parents and especially staff. She is off to sunnier climates in September as she has secured a fantastic opportunity to teach in the Middle East. We won’t quite say our goodbyes yet as we still have her for half a term. We have successfully appointed Miss Ilsley’s successor and parents will have the opportunity to meet the successful candidate after half term.

This month Year 6 completed their end of key stage assessments. They spend the majority of the year working towards preparing for these tests and when the week arrives it passes in a flash! This was one of the few years where we didn’t have pupils in tears on the Monday morning. Well done to them! All of the children coped well with the stress that tests can bring and did their teachers proud. Now SATs has passed we have the long wait for the results but in the meantime, Year 6 pupils have earned a well deserved rest over half term.

Year 2 pupils completed their assessments throughout the month of May. There is something alien about observing children, some as young as 6 completing a SATs paper. The Year 2 team did a fantastic job getting children prepared and made sure that the assessments were delivered in a supportive environment. The tests that pupils completed only provide teachers with part of the information to determine whether a child have met Age Related Expectations. I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank the staff who have either taught in Year 2 and Year 6 this year and also to those who supported during the SATs week. We have a great team at Chadwell, which makes it a great community to be part of.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a restful half term and look forward to seeing you all for the start of the last half term of this academic year, on Monday 4th June.

Regards,

Mr L Walker

Redbridge Schools Recorder Festival

On Wednesday the 23rd May, the following 42 children represented Chadwell Primary School at the Redbridge Schools Recorder Festival at The Sir James Hawkey Hall in Woodford.

Samarah Akbor, Daphney Kejem, Halle Murebari, Zaki Kruszyna, Preet Chumber, Nabia Naseha, Brakatha Niranjan, Daniella Omodele, Abdul Wahid, Yasmine Reid-Khan, Paige Modelly, Eshal Faheem, Semara Terralonge, Danny Wallace, Christian Mamire, Dara Alabi, Camren Terralonge, Ibrahim Muhammad, Rehan Mehmood, Ria Adimulam, Aimee Dudman, Demi Azeez, Samantha Egot, Dil Chandarana, Kejsi Paluca, Michelle Egot, Jaiden Parchment, Joanna Elias, Adina Halaoui, Spoothi Udupa, Hajra Noor, Keira Modelly, Mahika Shepley, Laila Price, Daniella Sawyer, Mofe Oshin, Raul Tinca, Nadia Gomes, Amarpreet Matharu, Damilola Sadiq

They performed a variety of pieces with 12 other Redbridge Schools and had a great deal of fun playing their pieces. Chadwell Primary had the most children taking part- 42 in total! They set a really high standard and should be really proud of themselves!

With many thanks to Mr Nordon and Mrs Gibbs who helped me to look after the children in the evening and to Mrs Doidge and Butler who helped in the afternoon. Also, many thanks to all the parents that made the effort to come with their children to the performance and support them.

I hope that they will continue to enjoy recorder club and take part in next year’s festival. Their next performance will be the Summer Music Evening in the last week of term!

During our Royal Wedding celebrations, the Drumming Club entertained the children as they were gathering for assembly by performing as a marching drum band. Thank you to the children that performed:

Stefan Morosanu ,Daniella Sawyer, Laila Price, Obi Ubenyi, Jameel Blake, Katy Herd, Beatrice A, Kori Higgins, Shyan Brown, Neil Dodia, Jamal Trotman

Juhaim Blake, Ashton Iziah, Abdullah Subhani, Orianna, Adina Halaoi, Michelle Egot, Camren Terralonge.

In year 1 this term, we have been learning about music connected to Spring and have been growing a ‘music seed’ each week through completing musical tasks. The children have learnt about how to compose interesting music and in their groups, had to compose a piece of music which was inspired by the sound of rain. You can see our very good conductors leading the children in their groups as to when to play and when to stop!
