SENIOR SCHOOL CAMPERS HEAD HOME
TOMORROW FROM BEECHWORTH
Despite the high temperatures this week, the daily
reports have declared that the camp has been most
successful. It has indeed been a wonderful
experience for our students and one that they will
remember fondly all their lives.
I thank the attending staff for their supervision
and care of every student this week. They have all
accepted the responsibility and all this entails of
their positions willingly and enthusiastically, in
order to provide the students with the opportunities
they have had. I’m sure your families are looking
forward to your return.
I thank the staff based back at school for taking on
the additional workload that freeing the camp
supervising staff would normally carry out.
I’m sure everyone is looking forward to being in
their own bed tomorrow night.
I thank you all.
SECONDARY SCHOOL PLACEMENT – 2016
I know that many parents have visited secondary
government and non-government schools, already
in preparation for their child/children transitioning
to Year Seven in 2017.
The state-wide placement timeline and procedures
are as follows for those students wishing to enter a
government school in 2017: -
Information regarding secondary education and
Application for Enrolment (Year Seven) forms will
be distributed to Year Six students on Tuesday, 12th
April.
These will be returned to Burwood Heights Primary
School by 13th
May. We will then submit all initial
placement requests to the secondary school.
We will notify parents of the results of the
placements applications, in writing, on 10th
August.
Orientation Day will be conducted on 6th
December.

During Term One, the Junior School students
are given an opportunity to participate in
Syndal’s “Just Swimming” program. Each
Thursday and Friday from week 5 until the
end of term, students leave school and attend
the pool where they learn a variety of
swimming techniques in groups. Students also
learn about the importance of being safe and
how to behave around water. After their first
few days of swimming, 1/2P wrote a short
reflection about their time spent at Syndal,
describing what they did and how they felt
after starting the program.
Even though the weather this week is telling us otherwise, Autumn will soon be upon us. We enjoyed this salad with the first of the new season’s pears. Their sweetness contrasts nicely with the saltiness of the feta, and the chapons are a nice change from the more usual croutons. I hope you enjoy this dish as much as we did.
Butter lettuce and pear salad with garlic chapons ½ a bulb of garlic (about 5 cloves) 1 large butter lettuce 1 bread stick, sliced 2 pears 50g fetta 2 Tbls red wine vinegar 2 Tbls olive oil
2 Tbls natural yogurt
1. Pre-heat oven to 150 degrees.
2. Lightly rub your garlic cloves with oil, wrap in foil and roast on a baking tray for 30
minutes.
3. Meanwhile wash and separate the lettuce leaves and spin dry them in the salad spinner.
Arrange the leaves on a platter.
4. Slice pear into thin wedges and arrange on the salad platter amongst the lettuce leaves.
5. When garlic is roasted, remove foil and place it into a small bowl. Mash it slightly with a
folk. It will smell amazing.
6. Slice baguette into 2 cm slices and smear a little of the roasted garlic paste onto each
piece. Bake chapons/ croutons in oven until lightly browned and hard (10 minutes). Be
careful not to burn the bread!
7. To make the dressing combine all the oil, yogurt, vinegar, salt and pepper in a bowl and
whisk.
8. Place bread onto the salad platter, drizzle salad with dressing and crumble with fetta
cheese. Serve
Choir Performance
at the
Walk for the Monash Children’s Hospital Congratulations to all the Choir students who gave a wonderful performance when they
represented the school at the Walk for the Monash Children’s Hospital over the weekend. Ms
Crystal aptly led the Choir as they performed, ‘On Top of the World’ and ‘True Colours’
Thank-you to all the families involved for giving up your time on a Sunday to provide the
students with the opportunity to give back to the community. Looking forward to many more
Choir performances this year, including the Anzac Service and Open Night Concert in Term
Two.
HELP WANTED! We are in urgent need for volunteers to assist in the maintenance of our Outdoor Learning Classroom – fondly
known as the “Garden Annex”.
• Our vegetable and flower beds require constant removal of weeds, seedlings need to be planted and
there is always pruning to be done.
If anyone has a little time to spare we would be most grateful if you could assist in
any way.
Please contact the school on 9803 8311 or speak to Kristy at the front office.
