Port Washington Elementary NEWSLETTER P -Positive O -Outgoing R -Respectful T -team Fourth Grade Week of March 4 Reading - Mrs. Polen Word Work:Greek/Latin Roots We will be focusing the majority of our time with writing the next two weeks. However, we will still be working with different Greek and Latin roots. We will also be looking at the Ohio AIR Test practice site to prepare for our upcoming ELA state test. ( www.oh.portal.airast.org ) AR Information and Goals For this grading period, all students are required to read one chapter book and receive 27 points . I will be reading one of my favorite books to students titled Walk Two Moons. Students will be able to quiz on this book which is worth 9 points. Students must also maintain an 85% average or higher on their AR quizzes. Writing Processes - Mrs. Polen Writing Focus: Greek/Latin Roots Students will continue working with informative essays. They will be using the Ohio AIR Test practice site to complete this week’s writing prompt. **Remember - a great practice of ELA skills can be done with the online IXL program! Students have a profile that is in their ELA binder here at school. This profile can be taken home and used with this program at any time. Math - Mrs. Schumacher M istakes A llow T hinking to H appen We still continue work with fractions (find equivalent fractions, order and compare, add and subtract, decompose into unit fractions, and then multiply by a whole number). In addition, we work toward fluency in all students with long division and multiplication of larger factors. Want problems for extra practice? Your child has workbook pages in the red folder with long division practice potential. Use a few of those extra problems each evening to conquer this skill. :) There will be a quiz on fractions and computation on Friday,3/8. (equivalent, compare, order on a number line; long division ) Keep practicing facts!!! Practice makes permanent. The students will be reviewing the factors of production and learning about entrepreneurship. This will then lead to a group activity Announcements BLIZZARD BAG #3 DUE March 5 FOR CREDIT Fri., March 8 Items for PTO basket due Fri., March 15 PTO Carnival 5-8 pm Spring MAP testing will be March 20 and 21. Fri., March 22 End of Third Grading Period Spring Picture Day Wed., March 27 Two Hour Delay Fri., March 29 Grade Cards Sent Home PTO Spring Carnival basket donations are due this FRIDAY ! Your help is needed with the baskets for the basket raffle. Each homeroom has a theme and any item that your family can add is greatly appreciated! Mrs. Dobbins’ theme: Summer Fun Mrs. Polen’s theme: Chocoholics Mrs. Schumacher’s theme: Laundry

 Fourth Grade

Week of March 4

Reading - Mrs. Bryant 

● Ready Reading book - We will be looking at Comparing Patterns and Events in Stories. Students will take a quiz over this on Friday, March 8.

● IXL - Students will continue to work in the areas in IXL that pertain to them individually based upon their MAP results. We will work on these in class, but they may also be assigned some areas to work on at home from time to time.

● Walk Two Moons - Students will continue working with their Book Clubs to read the story. They will also answer questions about the story as they read.

 

AR Information and Goals  

Students have set their new AR goals. Students worked with me to set their individual point values.  

 

 

  Writing Processes - Mrs. Bryant   

We will begin to review our two main types of writing: Informative and Opinion. Students will begin working on writing an Informative piece.

Math - Mrs. Bryant We will continue looking at Lesson 21 in which students will relate decimals and fractions. Students will have a quiz over relating decimals and fractions on Monday, March 11. This will be for a letter grade. IXL - Students will continue to work in the areas in IXL that pertain to them individually based upon their MAP results. We will work on these in class, but they may also be assigned some areas to work on at home from time to time.
