“I HAVE A DREAM” 50th Anniversary of the March of Washington

August 28, 2013

Values are an element of what makes a Great Society. On a recent trip to New York and Washington D.C. I invited several of our La Mansion Inn employees to join me in some of the 50th Anniversary Events at the Lincoln Memorial. Fifty years after Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech in Washington D.C. after a peaceful march by the Civil Rights Movement. His speech provided the catalysts for change and still provides beacons of hope for many. I am honored to have met many members of his family including his widow Coretta Scott King during my time in Washington D.C. as the helmsman of the National Press Club. From a distant Quepos and Manuel Antonio we came and saluted the 50th Anniversary of his famous and Iconic Speech which, amongst many other significant changes, helped put an African-American President in the White House decades later. These were moments in history that changed an entire nation starting with Rosa Parks’ refusal to give up her seat in the bus to a white man in Montgomery, Alabama. The fight for equality continues and never goes out of style. First the fight for Women’s Rights followed by equal rights for African-Americans and other minorities and now Rights for GLBT people. The legacy of Dr. and Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. continues and his work is not done. Not in the U.S. and not in Costa Rica and I proud to be an advocate for these causes and thank my staff members for joining me and participating in this historic event that provided the power to turn his dream into reality! Let “Freedom Ring” in Costa Rica as well. As President of the Chamber and Owner of the La Mansion Inn I thank you for your business to not only my hotel but also to the entire Canton as we try to help improve the lives of many living and working in the Canton de Aguirre.

Time for Rejuvenation

Every year the September and October months are time for rejuvenation for the Manuel Antonio area. Refreshing rains, no lines at the National Park also gives our Flora and Fauna the opportunity to bounce back. This is the optimum time for White Water Rafting and Surfing. The Whale Watching Season is just around the corner and the Turtle Season is about to begin. Not only our natural resources get revitalized but also at the La Mansion Inn it is a time to get ready for the upcoming high season. During these months our rates are some of the lowest of the year. We are also busy revamping some of our rooms and suites, we are remodeling some of our food and beverage facilities, we are adding a Sky Bridge to the 360 degree Sky Lounge which will connect one terrace to another over the pool area and will be installing an elevator in the Main Lounge for people who have trouble climbing stairs. Last December we inaugurated our handicapped suite and are working hard to finalize the remainder of what is required by Law #7600 on people with access problems and will convert some of our existing rooms into suites. An exciting time and we continue our mission to make our boutique Inn the best facility with the absolute best views in the entire Central Pacific Area. We invite you to take a look for yourself before the next high season begins and look forward to your call. We appreciate your business and never forget how important you are to the La Mansion Inn.
