NEWS FROM MUSIC DEPARTMENT Let’s take a look at year 3 this week:

Year 3 are currently finishing up a unit on ‘Time’. This of course links brilliantly with skills related to beat and rhythm. Last week we were improving melodies using a variety of rhythmic ideas based on a piece called

‘Carillion’. A Carillion is actually an instrument that works using bells. Check out the link below to find out more and see a Carillion used for improvisation.

NEWS FROM ART DEPARTMENT Year 6 have been working hard all term in Art, following in the footsteps of renowned Pop artist, Jim Dine. They have been developing their crossing hatching tonal skills by observational drawing tools, looking how light and shadow fall on an object. They then created beautifully detailed etchings, learning how to use the

printing press. Well done to Ollie who became quite a master at using the press and tutored the rest of his class when it came to their turn. Congratulations to Ellie who’s etch of piled up wrenches, was the most successful.

NEWS FROM SPORTS DEPARTMENT On Tuesday 9th March the two year six hockey teams played two matches against Finton House School. In the first match the team captain was Isla and in the second match the team captain was Ellie they both did a great job as team captains. On the first team whose team captain Isla won 9-0 with two year 5s Lilly and

Antonia. On the other team whose team captain was Ellie lost 4-0 with one year 5 Grace B-M although they should have deserved a goal. On Isla’s team Antonia was the player of the match and on Ellie’s team Ollie was the player of the match. There was amazing team work on both teams and everyone got to touch the ball.

On the 10th of March, Chepstow House school played Fulham Prep. Chepstow were split into 3 different teams. Our first strikers were Ariellla and Eva. With Sofia, Eliza and Samuel in defence we managed to save

some goals. Henry, Quattro and Melissa in midfield ran up and down the pitch breathlessly. Ariella scored 4 goals and Quattro scored 1. Everyone tried their hardest and at the end everyone was exhausted and we had to agree this was a brilliant match. The player of the match for Fulham Prep was a girl with bushy hair, the player of the match for Chepstow was Ariella. Overall the final score was 5-2. On the bus back to school, all of us celebrated our victory in the hockey match.

By Ariella and Eva

The C team played two different teams from Fulham Prep in three mini matches. Everyone got the chance to play in different positions over the three games as there was always one or two substitutes to rotate on and off throughout. Olivia and Oscar played well in midfield, making some strong tackles and always looking to

attack up the field. Finn was also a fierce attacker for Chepstow, scoring a goal and creating several chances throughout. Fulham Prep managed to pass the ball a bit quicker than Chepstow and in the end scored more goals than Chepstow over the three games. A great effort from Chepstow though, with Finn getting player of

the match. Well done team.

Our match against Fulham Prep was a tough one! They were a skilful and competitive team. Once we got ourselves organised we managed to score our first goal, but it was not easy. Fulham Prep kept on blocking our way but in the end Ailyn passed the ball to Camelia who whacked it past the keeper. However, before half time Fulham prep had got a goal back against us. In the second half we were determined to win. Both sides played amazingly well but Chepstow house school won in the end, beating Fulham Prep 2-1. We were

thrilled. Everyone played well but Lucas Baker was a standout player winning player of the match.

LITTLE CHEPSTOW NEWS Well..another action packed week at Little Chepstow has passed.

The Dormice have been learning about the Five Senses and so they have been tasting a variety of food stuffs, making lavender scented playdough and playing a wonderful sound track game. The laughter and shouting

that occurred when they tasted sour lemon was hilarious.

The Field Mice have had an equally amazing week and the reason being, that we have had our incredible parents in school taking over the teaching. It has been so inspirational to see what they have planned for the children and the lessons that have taken place have been so exciting. Thank you so much Field Mice parents for rising to the challenge.

As well as this we are thrilled to let you know that as a result of our nursery Readathon week, the total that

has been raised so far stands at £2,032.00. So fabulous! Thanks so much everyone.

RECEPTION NEWS We have had so much fun in Reception this week learning all about the Royal Family! We read a fantastic story called ‘The Queen’s Knickers’ and then talked about different members of the Royal Family, where they live and who will be King next. Designing pants for the Queen was so funny! In literacy, we wrote letters to the Queen, asking her lots of interesting questions. We wonder if she will write back? Our maths lessons were very active this week as we learnt about positional language. We loved hiding underneath the table, dancing on the table and moving different toys around the classroom. Next week we are looking forward to Kings and Queens dress up day – we can’t wait to see your costumes!

YEAR 1 NEWS In year 1, we’ve been writing alternative endings to our story The Three Little Pigs. We’ve been getting creative and coming up with our own twists on the traditional tale. It’s been fun to use our imaginations!

Our topic in maths this week has been multiplication. We learnt how to multiple by using arrays and repeated

addition.

We also loved working with Cypher and coding circuits!

YEAR 2 NEWS As part of our Design and Technology project this term, we have designed and created a new playground for Katie Morag’s hometown on the ‘Isle of Struay’. First, we planned our playground and the materials and equipment we will need. We used a range of materials including cardboard, paperclips and split pins. We

then created our playgrounds and evaluated our projects. There were some extremely inventive ideas and ways to make them – well done year 2!

YEAR 3 NEWS We have been busy practicing our songs for the Battle of Trafalgar concert and have enjoyed learning a little bit more about Nelson and Napoleon. We even did a bit of role play and imagined what we would ask if we had the chance to interview them! In maths, we have been looking at position and direction, using compass

points and grid references. In English we’ve started a new topic: newspapers. We spent our lessons this week looking at the differences between direct and indirect speech, creating a newspaper ‘recipe’ and writing eye-catching headlines. We are looking forward to writing our first articles next week.

YEAR 4 NEWS This week, some of us were so lucky to get to read with Ralph the reading dog. We read him great stories, which he really enjoyed. More of us will be able to read to him in the future and we’re really looking forward to it!

We also wrote wonderful diary entries linked to the Trojan horse. Some of us wrote as Helen, others as Trojans or Greeks. We really loved learning about the story and how cunning the Greek soldiers were.

In Geography, we finished off our Global Warming topic by designing reusable bags.

YEAR 5 NEWS We have had a fun and creative week, writing diary entries and starting on story boards. The diary entries that

the children have written are from the perspective of a character from Kensuke’s Kingdom, as we are still

focusing on Michael Morpurgo’s literary work. For the story boards, the kids have been asked to illustrate and

briefly describe six scenes from the first part of the novel. We are very excited and impressed by what they

have created!

Maths this week has focused on measuring the perimeter and area of irregular shapes, as well as

measurement conversions. Again, we are very happy with the progress that the children are making.

We are continuing to learn about case studies in Geography and are have started looking at the events and

continuous effects of the Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska in 1989.

We look forward to sharing all this exciting work with you in the weeks to come!

YEAR 6 NEWS It is so hard to know where to start this week as so much has been going on. The year 6 children completed the book drive and have sorted all the books into different categories. We have been able to pass on 722 books to other children in the local area. To celebrate World Book Day we read with younger children, we

visited Nursery, the Robins and the Skylarks. We also went to Waterstones to hear a book being read and use our World Book Day vouchers.

In Maths, we completed a week long data handling investigation. The children had to choose a data handling question that would compare two different variables, they then collected data, before creating graphs and presenting findings including the mean, median, mode and range to the class. Miss Dixon and I were very pleased with the exceptional quality of work from each pair of children.

ECO NEWS At our last eco meeting we talked about how the ‘walk once a week’ scheme is going and gave out the February badges. It’s great to see so many people getting involved and we hope, as the weather gets warmer, we’ll have even more sustainable travellers!

Thank you to everyone who entered the JTA banner competition. We had some super entries and there were lots of powerful messages. We think some Chepstow children could go on to careers in marketing as they came up with really catchy slogans!

Finally, year 3 were thrilled to get a reply from the government in response to our letters about

deforestation. We are all huge orang-utan fans after studying them in English and are pleased to hear that the government is supporting their conservation.
