Newsletter Term 5, Week 6
Compassion in our Community
Over the last couple of weeks Miss Wilson has been very busy making face masks for her neighbour who works in a
care home.
Miss Wilson had to make the mask following a pattern, then using her sewing machine to then carefully sew
the mask together. Lots of people are coming together in our community to support one another. Have you been a community hero and helped a neighbour in
need? Maybe you have been baking cakes, cooking dinners or drawing pictures to make people smile.
Please share with us any exciting things you have been doing to help support the
community.
Well done Miss Wilson!
Welcome to week 6’s newsletter, the final week in term 5! Well hasn’t it been a strange term?
We have all had to adapt quickly to a new way of life, learning and working from home, not see-ing our friends/family and not being at school! It has been a very busy week for some of the
adults preparing for some of our children to return to us on the 1st June. Information on who is returning to school and when has been sent home to parents/carers this week, so please keep an eye out. This hopefully indicates that things are slowly returning to some sort of ’normal’ and we look forward to when the whole school community will be back together again. All the adults at
school have missed all your smiling faces and we can’t wait to see you all again soon.
Wishing you all stay alert, safe and well, Miss Murray, Miss Metcalf and the whole teaching team.
Just a reminder that there will be no home learning videos during half term week
Remember there are many other websites where you can access home learning, links
on the school website.

A message from our PSA, Mrs. Sam Webb. Contact: sam.webb@stouracademytrust,org.uk
Dear Parents/ Carers, I hope you are all staying safe and well? This week is the beginning of National Smile Month. A campaign by The Oral Health Foundation that champions the benefits of having good oral health and promoting the value of a healthy smile. Between 18th May and 18th June, we will be joining the campaign to make a positive difference to the oral health of our school community and we really hope you will join us. Each week we will focus on different areas of oral health for you and your child to think about. There will be an activity for your child to do at home, that may include downloadable resources. The information will be taken mostly from the website www.nationalsmilemonth.org. This week our focus is on the ‘SMILE.’ A universal sign across the world, of friendship, an ex-pression of happiness or of a willingness to connect or to welcome. Activity- Write a poem about what a smile means to you. It could be about how a simple smile makes you feel or what makes you smile. Or you could write about how you look after your smile by brushing and thinking about your teeth, gums, or visiting the dentist. Or you could draw a picture of a smile, lots of smiles, or of things that make you smile. It's entirely up to you. We would love to see them so please share them with us by emailing [email protected] Keep smiling! Teacher Challenges!
Mrs Clubb’s Handprint Challenge
Mrs Clubb and Daisy have been busy making handprints. She said she would like something to look back and remember this period of lockdown as it has been a truly unique experience and
nobody knows if it will ever happen again! She has included the recipe so you can have a go at home!
You will need:
500g plain flour 250g salt 250ml water Mixing bowl 1. Mix all the ingredients into a dough. 2. Roll out to the size required, not too thin! 3. Press handprints in to the dough. 4. Bake in oven on the lowest setting for 3-4 hours 5. Paint on your design then varnish to finish.
Mrs Powell’s Daily Acts of Kindness Challenge
We all know how important it is to be nice to everyone, but it is particularly important at the moment. Have a look at these daily
acts of kindness. How many do you al-ready do? Are there any on the list you
could try and do?
Could you complete all these challenges in one day?
If you complete all the acts of kindness please tell us so we can share what
wonderfully kind children we have here at Sturry!
Stay safe I look forward to hearing from you all soon,
Mrs Powell

Worship and Reflection
Choose Peace
John 14:27 (International Children’s Bible)
27 “I leave you peace. My peace I give you. I
do not give it to you as the world does. So
don’t let your hearts be troubled. Don’t be
afraid.”
God promises to leave his peace with his peo-
ple so they don’t need to be afraid or worried.
I wonder if you are worried about anything at
the moment?
1 Peter 5: 7
Pour out all your worries and stress upon
him and leave them there, for he always
tenderly cares for you.
The Bible reminds Christians to leave all their
worries with God by talking and praying to him.
You might like to spend some time quietly re-
flecting and talking to God about the things you
are worried about.
John 14:27 (International Children’s Bible)
27 “I leave you peace. My peace I give you. I
do not give it to you as the world does. So
don’t let your hearts be troubled. Don’t be
afraid.”
Remember this verse as you pray. God prom-
ises his peace in times of trouble and worry.
It has been very strange not being in
school. I wonder how many new things
you have learnt whilst you have been at
home?
Cooking, reading different books, how
to use the hoover?!
Learning can be done anywhere at any
time in life. There is always something
to be learned.
Proverbs 4:13 (GNT)
Always remember what you have
learned. Your education is your
life—guard it well.
Thank you, God, for my brain and how
it helps me to learn.
Thank you, God, for my teachers and
for school and for all those who have
helped me to learn at home. Amen

What have we been up to this week?
Mrs Francis has been busy making tie-dye t-shirts with
Cassie and Stanley. They look fab! Mrs Francis has also been
spending some quiet time cross stitching.
Mrs Bland has had a go at Miss Murray’s origami
challenge. What a wonderful swan!
Mrs Holliday has been growing cress in egg
shells to look like peo-ple! She has also been making jam tarts with
her daughter.
Mrs Cabbage has dusted off her
camera and has been perfecting her photography
skills!
Mrs Hadlow has been bird
watching in her garden. Can you spot
the bird at the bird feeder? Do you know
what bird it is?
Mrs King and her family have been to the beach this week
and found this piece of driftwood. They can’t decide if
it looks a unicorn or a llama?
