Ministry Center Needs

We will be collecting the following items in the month of May for the Ministry Center.

Jelly Raman Noodles Boxed Meals Soup Crackers Fruit

Why? How? …. Because He Lives

The song Because He Lives was written and first sung by Gloria and Bill

Gaither in 1971. A good Methodist friend of mine, Ed, loves them. When

the Gaither Family finally held their first concert in Ed’s home town of St.

Louis, Ed bought us tickets to attend. Ed did the same thing when Billy

Graham came to town in his last tour of revivals. [Michele used her

connections to reciprocate by securing a seat for Ed when Pope John Paul II

visited in 1999.] I always had respect for both Billy Graham and Bill and

Gloria Gaither, but Ed’s love for them have truly increased my appreciation.

In just a single verse, Because He Lives lines out the heart of the Good

News of the Christian Faith: “God sent his Son, they called him Jesus; he

came to love, heal, and forgive; he lived and died to buy my pardon, and

empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives.”

The refrain goes on to answer the question of, “So what?” “Because he

lives, I can face tomorrow; because he lives, all fear is gone; because I

know he holds the future, and life is worth the living just because he lives.”

Just last Sunday, we celebrated Easter and the empty grave. Over the next

several weeks, through a worship series, we’ll explore the “So what?” of

our faith.

April 23rd – See its impact through the way our ministries connect us with

God and each other.

April 30th – Get a right attitude by offering your gratitude.

May 7th - Through the practice of prayer, see what God reveals.

May 14th – Experience the joy in sacrifice.

May 21st – Strengthen your commitment in faithful living.

May 28th – Deepen your faith and get underway.

June 4th - Grow in grace and experience the fruits of the Spirit.

Because Christ lives we know that death and loss do not have the final

word. This worship series takes us from Easter to Pentecost and will help

us live out our identity as the Body of Christ in the world.

Financial Report

50th Anniversary for

David & Judy White

A life of caring, sharing and a love of endless giving together…

Your presence is requested to honor David and Judy White. They were united in marriage on May 13, 1967, at the UMC in Hopkins.

Please join the family on Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 2 - 4 pm at the Maryville Community Center, Suite 200, 1407 N. Country Club Road.

Hosting the event are their two children, Bryan and Brenda Beason and Michael & Celina Kincaid and grandchildren.

Cards can be sent to 192 N. Sunset, Maryville, MO 64468

WOW! What a send off. I’m in complete awe...Thank you Pastor Scott and the FUMC family for all the well wishes, cards, love gifts and the wonderful retirement reception. Thanks to Carole Couts for putting the reception together I will miss everyone but I will be in and out...May God Bless everyone.

Financial Situation

Through March 2017

Church offerings to the General Fund through March totaled $128,457,

with $26,270 of that amount coming from one-time designated gifts to

Close the Gap. General Fund Expenses through March totaled

$105,679.

By continuing this trend in giving throughout the upcoming Because He Lives capital campaign designed to payoff the debt for the new addition, we will be on track to not only meeting our budget needs but reducing the residual deficit in the General Fund, thus providing for the mission and ministries of the church. So, as we are able, let's follow through with our committed patterns of giving and those who are able, contribute to Close the Gap. Your pastor's family is still matching contributions to that designated giving at a rate of 1:4. so, were $45,000 or more be given, they'll give $15,000.

Prayer Teams

You are invited to be a part of the Prayer Team Ministry at FUMC whether you are making a permanent commitment or just want to "come and see", groups meet several times during the week in the Prayer Chapel (just across from the church office). Each group that meets in the Prayer Chapel, share or read the joys and concerns, offer silent prayer and then depart (at least as a group) after 30 minutes.

If your schedule will not allow you to attend your regular group, you may choose to participate at the time from wherever you are, you can choose to attend at another Prayer Group time, or you may come to the Chapel on your own at another time, whenever the church is open. It is designed to be a very relaxed atmosphere, and we hope you will give it a try.

How do you join a prayer team? Just show up at one of the given times below, contact David or Carol Baird or the church office for more information.
