Newsletter Week 8 Term 2 From the principal Dear Parents and Carers, There is nothing that gives me greater pride as a Principal than when a member of the community gives the school and myself positive feedback about our children. On Monday a number of our students attended an event at Parliament House in Sydney as part of the Yarn Up initiative. Later in the day, I received the following email from a member of the public. It reads: Hi Briar Road PS Team, Just a quick email to say how impressed I was with your teachers this morning and the well-behaved group of children. When I got on the train at Holsworthy, I noticed they were very accommodating in making space for me to sit. In addition, I noticed the children were very well mannered and sat and did some homework while the teacher was watching over and nurturing them and helping them on their maths. Finally, they got up to depart at Wolli Creek station and were very well organised. They were all fine representatives of Briar Road Public School. If you could kindly pass this feedback to the teacher involved, that would be much appreciated. I have seen other schools on school trips and this was the best behaviour I've ever seen on a train. If you need more details on the teacher or class let me know. Mr Abedin Holsworthy What a wonderful message to receive on a Monday morning. Our students should be commended on the high standard they set for public education. Thank you to all the wonderful parents and staff that attended our Term 2 parent dinner. It was another great whole school event that show cased the authentic partnership between the school and our valued community. Reminder: In the colder weather, our bell times remain unchanged. It is expected that students arrive at school ready to learn by 9.00am. There has been an increase in late attendance since the weather has turned chilly. Please ensure you make every effort to have your child/children arrive on time each day. With kind regards, Mrs T.Anderson

Mr Murphy’s Attendance News Term 2 is fast coming to an end and once again, we have seen many students across the school with outstanding attendance. Our new attendance reward for 100% attendance for the week will see one student selected from each class who is at school every day in a nominated week and awarded with a white award at morning lines on a Monday morning. This award can be used to contribute towards ribbons, banners and medallions. It is with great pleasure to announce our awards winners for weeks 6 and 7:

A part of our attendance protocols at Briar Road is to flag with parents any student that is sitting below 85% attendance. Over the next few weeks I will be sending home reminder letters about the importance of being at school every day and being on time, with a summary of that students attendance rate. If your child has fallen below 85%, this is simply a reminder to firstly raise awareness, but secondly give parents/carers an opportunity to work closely with teachers to improve this rate and get back over 85%. If you would like to discuss this please request a meeting with myself through the front officer and I will be happy to meet with you to discuss attendance. Keep your eyes and ears peeled for our upcoming attendance reward party which will be held in Week 10 this term. Letters will be sent home shortly with details around this event. I hope to see many students at this wonderful initiative
